E-bay not welcome?

Why are E-bay links not welcome on this forum?

In my experience, for-profit car forums generally allow posting of e-bay auctions in a relevant section. Many even a have an auction bot which aggregates and posts relevant e-bay auctions.

Not trying to be a pain, this is just the first time I have encountered such a rule on a hobbyist forum.

There are multiple reasons in which we decided (long ago) to not allow Ebay links.

1.) Junk Threads - Auctions can last anywhere from 1-14 days (or longer). When the auction is done, the thread becomes junk. It slows down searches, creates false hope for people looking for items that actually are available. Sure we could manually weed these out; but why add more work to an heavily burdened staff.

2.) Opens floodgates for spam and for-proit vendors - Botnets prey upon sites where they can post freely and without scrutiny, ironically so do unscrupulous vendors looking to cash in on a quick buck. We all know there are plenty of bad vendors out on Ebay with questionable histories or products. By limiting Ebay ads we all but eliminate this problem of attracting spambot and vendors looking to skim off our bandwidth to make their quick buck.

These would be the primary but not only reasons we sought to forbid ebay links on the forums. If you want to tell others you've got some items for sale (such as books) on Ebay feel free to post in a relevant thread (such as Cool RX-7 Books or something similar) that you've got some for sale.

A buyer can easily find your items using the ebay search or they can contact you via PM if they really are interested in obtaining those items.

Hope this sheds some light on the subject,
~K~
