Would you call it quits?

This is purely out of curiousity.

And no I didn't blow my new engine.

WankelingBeer 11-23-06 09:08 PM

WERD V8, do it Italian Stallion.

Snrub 11-23-06 09:11 PM

I don't think anyone can judge until they've been there and it depends on the use of the vehicle. I know intially when I blew my engine after owning the car for a year I felt like a complete idiot and like everything I thought and knew was wrong. :) At this point if I blew my current engine I probably wouldn't be happy, but I know that it's done more than can be reasonably expected of it.

It also depends on the application. For instance if you had a very "risky" setup and you were racing it a lot then its to be expected. If all you did was drive to and from work then it would be quiet dishartening. Were the engines old or J-Specs or fresh Mazda Remans? See what I mean?

dufourmike 11-23-06 09:13 PM

v8's blow up too. so do 4 cylinders. my current count: 1 worn rotary, 3 still run, 3 piston engines absolutly shot, 2 of which lost all rings at once. sell the turbo, and go SP n/a.

Nismo Convert86 11-23-06 09:16 PM

Of course, but if you had 3 failed motors of the same type, I think I would give up, and maybe contemplate life.

R.P.M. 11-23-06 10:57 PM

I voted buy a motor from a builder....

Cause then I stay in business LOL :D

now 11-24-06 01:30 AM

if you go through more than one motor per season

5th poll option

stop what you are doing and figure out what you are doing wrong!

misterstyx69 11-24-06 01:42 AM

Do like me..do Dope for 25 years,Drive cars you can sell for Dope..get clean.get an Rx7..think of it as "the new Dope' and Have fun!..by the way..16months!..woot!

Aaron Cake 11-24-06 09:10 AM

I'd find out why I kept blowing engines. :) Multiple dead engines points to another problem...Something wrong with the tune, fuel delivery problems, etc.

Jahoo88 11-24-06 10:46 AM

I blew 1 NA and 2 turbo engines.

The engines were J-spec, the setup was risky (s-afc, 15psi), and i raced it a lot... Its being parted out now :)

pd_day 11-24-06 03:41 PM

Technically, I am still on my first motor going 200k km strong.
But if it ever goes, I'll be joining this

I'd never give on the good ol' rotors...too much history between me and my wankel(s)

I was contemplating the 3.8L Grand National Swap in my car, but the price to swap over was more than the rebuild, and this being my first blown engine I was cool with rebuilding it.

ACTION RT 11-24-06 04:55 PM

The GN swap is really neat, but becomes very pricey if you don't buy a donor car with everything. Pretty hard to find...,

Alot of people hate on the LS swap.. I would still like to do one though once Im outta school.

Same goes for a 2JZ in the S2000 ;)

I would analize the whole picture\system.

And if needed take absolutly everything apart, from injectors to fuel pump to ecu harness.

lay it all down, and start from back to front checking everything.

Then Spend some time I mean take a few days with the rebuild, Not a few days with the rebuild as in it is waiting for parts, but put rotors together then take a break then aseemble keg and then torque everything to spec.

Well I dont know, When I had to build my engine I felt like giving up and buyinng a bicycle ( wait thats what I did ..... )

Terrh 11-24-06 10:51 PM

depends on what you want to do!

Pistons are shitty for going fast. What a pain in the ass. And expensive, too!

BUT... LS1's are great for daily drivers, yay for torque and drivability!

so my vote is wankel+t56.

Syritis 11-25-06 12:20 AM

or u could just do something unique just for kicks, like a VW TDI swap. then u'd be king of the AUTOX and have good fuel milage.
as for me if i blow my motor, i'll just rebuild it.

eViLRotor 11-25-06 04:50 PM

Don't be a newbcake and blow it up. At decent power levels (ie under 400HP) you shouldn't really blow up that quickly unless you are a TARD.

But, V8 is a viable option.

Now, back to playing Need for Speed Carbon.

Syritis 11-26-06 01:21 AM

i appreciate the hostility but it's how i'm having fun with my car, so piss off.

Terrh 11-26-06 07:22 AM

did I miss something?

You bought the ps3?

eViLRotor 11-26-06 06:00 PM

^ Yeah, after a few hours of hand-to-hand combat in front of the local Best Buy, I got one....

...just kidding. I bought the game for PS2.
