Whats involved buying an RX-7 from the states?

Just curious about whats involved with buying an RX-7 from the states?
What kind of taxes do they give you? Also how much you think shipping would cost from say around the middle of the states?
Is it really worth the hassle? I see alot of nice RX-7s in the buy/sell forum but most if not all are from the US..
Really thinking about picking up an FD next summer but don't see many go for sale in Canada..

Start here.

not only do you have to pay for the RIV form which is $182 (if the car is not older than 15 years), there is a $100 A/C tax if the car is equiped, on top of that there is a 13% duty's charge, and you have to pay 7% tax. Ive done this a few times, it'a not too expensive and your in and out of the border within an hour or so. Oh if you are doing this you have to fax a copy of the title of the car to the border (US side) if your going through niagra falls it would be the lewiston Ny border, at customs and immigration, the copy of the title has to be there for a minimum of 72 hours before the car can be brought in so have the seller fax you a copy and fax them (the border) a copy before you have the car imported.

are you paying the duty and tax on blue book value? or purchase price?

probably whichever is higher...

I was thinking of asking this same question, only about a specific thing.

On the admissibility list, the 1990-1996 RX-7 is **, which per their glossary means bumper modifications.

Anyone have any experience with this? This apply to the FD?

???

Sweet... any car 15 yrs old or more is admissable. That means all first gens are fair game :)

So all you have to pay is tax on purchase price and registration. I think that's a fair price, considering there are sometimes cars in NY on Ebay that go super-cheap.
