V mount..

Since everyone seems to be flogging their work and their shop on here, outside the rules of the fourm I guess I might as well too..

almost done in this picture, still had to add the 3-4 injectors to the manifolds, finish up some relay wiring and a few AN fittings. Allot of clean up and fit/finish work to be done as well.

Okay I jsut want to put u on notice that u are defintily letting me drive that car this time even if it means hiring a hot little stripper to keep u occupied while i steal the keys :)

Looking awesome man

That looks great!

I've been plnning out a v-mount for some while now and so far i've got everything planned out except a hood and intercooler. i'm gunna have a look at an IC this week to see if it'll work. but i've been searching for some time about a hood. everything aftermarket is either stock CF or reverse vents that are too small to do anything but lower bay temps. so i started making my own fiberglass hood and now i see everyone with v-mounts now so i'm curious what hood do u have for ur set up?

doridori-rx7 05-29-06 02:18 AM

I use the same multi louver style as we do on our aircraft, I have a die for aluminum sheet that works perfect for the alloy FC hood. leaves me with the best pressure differenential over the greatest area of the hood, much better then a single Large vent will.

The look is not to everyones taste but it's fairly subtle and as I mentioned above it gives a much better pressure, ( even across the IC face ), differential. I suspect I will be needing to build in a rad IC splitter to control air flow across the two cooling elements.

Syritis 05-29-06 02:31 AM

yeah thats in the back of my mind aswell, just a 45degree diffuser won't work b/c the oil cooler is there aswell. so i think i'm going the leave a 1-2space above and have the diffuser start there.

afgmoto1978 05-29-06 03:01 AM

Looking good Dori, did a similar setup on a friend of mines car. Be sure to block off those gaps between the rad and IC, etc..

That's a nice intake manifold! What did you do with regards to the primary ports? Does the runner split into two near the ports?

I assume the little silver motor-looking thing near the passenger shock tower is part of the stand alone oiling system for the turbo?

Looks alot like the pump that 84Stock uses for his Water Injection system. Same Dimensions and everything. Even the same mounting place.

yes internally divived primary port.

yes that is the motor for the stand alone.. there ended up being no where else to put it that was acceable and fairly protected from the elements. The cooling and return tank sits down between the frame rails to keep as much weight lower in the car and to put the cooling fins into the air stream.

Alak 05-29-06 03:29 PM

What kinda drivetrain you got behind that?

classicauto 05-29-06 03:34 PM

Is this monster going to see any street use? or specifcally for track?

R.P.M. 05-29-06 04:31 PM

I like the intake setup, I like the idea of the runners where the middle splits into two for the primary ports.
I want to do the same thing except use ITB's for each runner on an N/A motor.

I also really like the bends.....cut and weld.....straight from Japan :D

doridori-rx7 05-29-06 07:30 PM

right now it's a Sachs kevlar multi disk spring hub with a Bully roller pressure plate rated at 5800 lbs ( they've since discontinued this product I managed to get one of thier experimental pc's ).

tranny and shaft are standard for the moment I have a customer that I'm doing an FD for and will be ordering the Trust 6 speed for his FD, at the same time I will order the OS giken dog gears. New C's shifter and the rear end is a Torsten 60% LSD.

i've got through ~ 40 feet of 2.5" .065" wall tubing in the last 6 months making these wedge cut setups.

Some of you may remember Dip S13 I did last year.. this is my latest work on his S14..

used a pretty demo'ed GREDDY FMIC to make this, his choice but it seems to be working out well. The front end needed to be cut out to make the room required for this thing as well I reversed the hood pins so that the PEEL cops wouldn't hound him all the time. You now reach into the vacant grill opening to pull the pins. moved the rad cap and did a few other polished goodies..

obviously not quite finished there but he had the first track day the next night so no time to waste..

I love seeing grassroots stuff.

Why not use water injection with a little intercooler instead of these massive Intercoolers?

Whats your (or anyones) take on water injection?

B6T 05-30-06 12:00 AM

Nice work! I can't imagine how long it takes to fabricate one of those intercooler pipes.

doridori-rx7 05-30-06 12:17 AM

In regards to the 2nd IC, that was the customers chioce not mine. In regards to mine.. the CFM flow on the IC is pretty closely matched to 2 bar ( actual ) on the turbo setup have. next winter I'm putting one of the P-port enignes build up for the aircraft, just to see what it can do on the street, that will have a methol hydrate injection system on it.
I've also got one on order from aquamist for my WRX. I think it's a excellent addon; cools intake charge, raises effective octane level, ( retards flame front)which gives either the ability to retime or gives you an extra margin of detonation saftey and steam cleans the rotor faces and areas with deposits.

I think Im going to run Water injection on my next turbo car. Im not a fan of HUGE intercoolers. Theres a guy in the miata club who retains the tiny intercooler on his Mazdaspeed Miata. He uses water injection and has seen more power with equal mods than a guy who runs a huge front mount. Only difference between the two cars was the intercooler size and one guy ran water injection.

Only problem I can see is running out of fluid at a bad time. But the Miata guy said 4 Litres lasts him along time, even with hard driving.

I did the cut and weld method aswell on my pipes. I Prefer the look, plus it was easier for me. As for having a Huge intercooler, at the moment i do have some lag but that is fine with me. The longer im out of boost in city driving the better (Less fuel, less stress on motor)

The v-mount setups do look badass however! Must be good aswell to keep things a little more hidden while driving, the less attention the better.

Syritis 06-03-06 01:12 PM

v-mount are quite more hidden, not having a big shiny IC in the front for everyone to see. also a lot less road debris would hit a v-mount IC. how ever finding the right hood to keep the v-mount IC hidden is different, b/c most v-mount hoods are quite exagerated.
right not i don't know for sure how i can cut out out my hood without showing off too much.
