Turbo Rebuild in the GTA
 

I have a Mitsubishi turbo that needs to be rebuilt. It is a TD07 25G and it requires a new exhaust housing at the least. If anyone could give me a number or shop name in the GTA that would be great.

Try Cherry turbos, not sure where they are located but apparently cheap.

Just looked it up on Mapquest.

Cherry is located west of London so its a little further than I'd like to go.

Hey Kenji, if your talking about that turbo I sold you last year, whats wrong with it?
All you need is a V-band welded onto the exhaust housing.

Well, according to the almighty Dave at Mazdees, that is not an option. Apparently if we try to weld up a flange to the exhaust housing, the heat from the torch will cause the houseing to warp and essentially ruin the turbo all together.

In short, he refused to do it. So now I am stuck with a tough decision. Either get it rebuilt, or buy a new turbo all together. What ever it is I have to do it soon. The car has been at the shop for the last 3 weeks or so just sitting there waiting until they had time to start work on it. Finally the time has come and now one of the most important parts is not good enough. I really need to get my car together before the end of the season or else I'm really gonna be pissed! I'd like to make at least one more meet this year.

Well the "Almighty Dave" is very wrong!! Many turbo's come without V-band flanges and the only way to put one on is to have it welded on. My buddy was going to weld one onto that turbo for me....its not a big deal and wont wreck the whole turbo.
The exhaust housing gets heated up with a set of torches and then the V-band flange gets TIG welded on.

If a professional shop dosen't know how to simply weld a V-band flange onto a turbo...you should consider looking for another place to have your pride and joy worked on!!

If you want a V-band welded on that housing let me know....I have a friend who does very nice TIG welding....he does some welding for Magnus, he made his own header for his 10 sec Talon.

Well, I dropped the turbo off at Dal's Turbo in Markham today, they are going to take a look at it and see what we can do.

I explained the situation to the guy that I left the turbo with and he said that it definetly needs a rebuild, but then 60 seconds later he told me that hes not a turbo guy and that he would pass it on to their man.

Is it just me or does everyone love talking shit about things they don't know. I'll probably just get it rebuilt for piece of mind, but I'm definetly losing my faith in the local industry. Is it really that hard for someone to say I don't want to do it, or I don't know. Why talk shit like the other person doesn't know anything or can't find out the truth.

Well, I'm hoping that this will all be resolved as soon as possible. They said I'd get a call tomorrow. Heres hoping.

I talked to my buddy today and if you supply the V-band, he will weld it on properly with his TIG welder for $20. Just thought I'd let you know!!

Thanks Joe. Do you know where I could get a V-band and what sizes are available? I will be using a 3" down pipe. Right now it has a flange the fit the stock turbo. I guess I'll need a different flange for the down pipe too. Even if your friend can get those pieces for me that would be great! Let me know as soon as possible cuz I need to give the guys at Dal's a response.

Just a note..
You want it TIG welded becasue that mode of welding is much cooler then if you MIG weld it. Mig welding it would put more heat into it and likley warp it. Maybe Dave at Mazdees does not have a TIG welder and was only thinking of his MIG welder. Most places don't have a TIG welder.
Anway, just some potential useless info.

He told me your best bet is to get one the proper size from a Turbo shop or turbonetics.com

Winter39, Dave didn't get specific. His exact words were, "If that is what the guy you bought it from said, he doesn't know what hes talking about. That sounds like an A-spec move to me like a Paul or Rob job."

RotaryRocket1 is Right.. All of the Td07's required an exhaust flange , they came raw at the back, most I have seen have a 4 bolt 3/4" flange simply stick welded to the back of them... You can use Tig, but in this case, stick would probably be the better choice, heat the housing up to 500 deg, use a stainless or nickle rod, at about 110 amps on a DC machine..Max
