so winter is here and i am parking my car in my building basment
and i relly dont get chance everyday to go down and check her up.. i stay busy wid my university and part time job!

i was looking at escort entourage CIS.. but it comes with a yearly fees:( really good but the issue is $179 yearly fees

i was plannig to put a car alarn system... do you guys know which 1 is good ?

or if you guys have any ideas or thoughts which can help me!

my friend told me to take the battery away from the car so i have the battery sitting at my apartment but i still dont feel sake .. any ideaas?

From what I've been told, pulling out the battery/fuses can deter a thief from actually getting away with your vehicle, but it may not deter them from stealing most of your stuff and hacking up the inside of your car.

There is no full-proof plan, but I would suggest getting a pager alarm and setting up your vehicle with the loudest alarm speakers you can find.. two of them. Don't connect your alarm to your cars power, have a separate source to power your alarm. The point is that with an alarm that loud which is difficult to turn off, it will scare him away because it will either deafen him or he won't be able to hear if anyone is coming while in the middle of trying to rob you.

And, of course, the pager alarm is to get you up and ready to meet him with a baseball bat, tire iron, bazooka, w/e.

i bought the compustar pro 2 and a half years ago for 400 bucks, its a two way pager with range up to i believe 5000 sq ft.
i feel very safe with it :)

you can also install a gps in your car to track it if it is ever stolen cuz then you tell the cops where it is and there screwed

get a quick release steering wheel with the lock, itll make it harder to steal without a steering wheel

Or install a hidden fuel cut off switch

Im also very insure about my car with that veilside fortune kit that its wearing,.....its hard not to be prudent. I have it locked up somewhere at a secure facility.

I do have an alarm but just thinking how easy it is to get it disabled is kind of a joke......
Ive seen that compustar now is trying to offer a gps locater kind of thing and to my knowledge it can send u an sms if u set parameters for it like if it has moved with out ur permission kinda thingy....

But having a compustar alarm, i still dont feel secure... thats why i also want to do a bunch of things to it like.... kill switch...super alarm with like 4 incredibly senstive shock sensor and a few loud speakers.....and things like a steering wheel release......as well as of course gps kill switch........but its there any shops around ontario that can do all this in one shop...it would be alot easier plus all the equipment could work insync together....i know how to install a steering wheel release but the rest i would just giveup.....

if u have a website or a contact info it would be great......but cost is important if anyone has any idea.......

Ok remember this.. No matter what you do to your car there is always away to get it if they want it weather its on a flatbed or not

If its a good theif:
Gps won't matter there are plenty of ways around this

Kill switch won't matter (Theifs are usually very familiar with their targets They will run a wire Directly from the fusebox/battery to power the Fuel pump,starter or ignition and they just cut the carpet where the pump cover is)

Removable steering wheel.... chances are you dont have a 1 in a million hub they will bring a wheel to put on

The very best you can do is get a Alarm that uses circuit breakers and has an independent battery back up and bury the thing in the interior in the dash behind the blower motor or somewhere very hard to get to, use more than one Siren one for the interior and exterior and put the exterior one under a battery tray (very hard to get to) Hide all the wires in the factory harness

AND ALWAYS ALWAYS HAVE A HOOD TRIP SWITCH

when storing my cars I would pull the ecu, battery and a relay and park it where a tow truck or flatbed can't get in

back in the day i knew people that would do this, they could get a set of wheels in under 5-6 mins tops with wheel locks on all the wheels And a super sensitive alarm, They got caught thank god lol

I'm assuming your building doesn't have secure parking (card/keypad entry)? And that you're in a neighbourhood that may be a popular theft area?. If so, then yes, you might need to go beyond pulling the battery and/or a kill switch. A loud alarm, that scares the would-be thief and draws attention, is nice, but the vast majority of thieves are just looking for an easy mark - so if your car isn't that mark, you shouldn't be overly worried. Contrary to popular belief or Hollywood movies, the vast majority of car thieves don't know sweet *$#& all about cars and aren't well-prepped for complications, beyond a few hot-wiring tips they learned in young-offenders centre (not that that doesn't take them a long ways). So if they're looking for a ride, as opposed to just jacking your stereo (which does usually result in breaking dash trim and cutting wiring), they'll give up in a hurry if it won't run. Someone determined and prepared will get your car, but isn't this a JDM FD? In other words, not a top dollar/hard to get car that's likely to attract pros. Not to be insulting or down on your ride, just that unless its got a lot of good aftermarket kit on it that could part out easily, it isn't likely to be attracting the attention of pros who might export it or chop it. FD's are cool, but not well-known or widely desired enough to be a steal to order or easy to unload car.

Although I do like 84's idea of the stun gun - I hate fookin thieves:Kill2:. Speaking for myself only, I know I'd be the first one to forget and get in without disabling it, however.

^^ sirens don't deter thieves when is the last time you one go off in a parking lot and went to check it out yourself?

99% of car alarms are installed by best buy, future shop, canadian tire and some small mom and pop shop

they all put the brain under the dash by the steering column, they all put the siren right where it is accessible under the hood, leave the antenna where it can be seen, and the worst idea i think ever is that knock sensor that they place on the front windshield

and Most thieves know the car they are going after inside and out

Car thieves aren't young punks now aday that have a few "hot wiring tricks" they are using obd2 ports to by pass immobilizers, Cell phone blockers to block gps signals

its a huge black market suv's and sports cars get sent to dubai or a local body shop puts out an order for a car so they can rebuild a wrecked new car they just bought

they will steal a car if it has the following aftermarket of course: seats, suspension, motor work, rims its as simple as that thank god this isn't the honda community i'm so glad i left it lol

My experience representing car thieves tells me that there is no market for our cars. The only people interested in stealing our cars are smash and grab types or punks that can't afford to buy their own aftermarket parts.

As stated by others you can't prevent the smash and grab idiots. And the other people interested in a 15 year old car are few and far between. I personally don't spend much time worrying about it.

Make sure you have the appropriate insurance and enjoy the car.

I believe you are right though, I see more smash and grab than actual car theft. Oh well, there is no way around that, unless you install a camera in your car...

The camera isn't so much a theft deterrent than it is a way to find the person who broke into your car and make him pay.

I would question many of your assertions - underage car thieves age 12-17 alone account for 42% of car thefts in Canada (to say nothing of break-ins). Their late teen-early twenties slightly older friends account for the bulk of the rest of the thieves. These kids don't know jack, beyond the hot wiring tips they learned in detention centre, they don't scout out cars, and they just take what's easy or grabs their fancy - Hondas, SUV's, and pickups are their favourites. StatsCan notes about 25% of car thefts in Canada are linked to organized crime - an assumption extrapolated from stolen cars never recovered, since most cars used for "joy rides" or in the commission of other crimes do in fact turn up at some point, though the perps are seldom apprehended. No, young punks don't need much skill - hence why why they account for the majority of car breakings and thefts.

That's not to say the organized crime operations (whether export or chop shops) are particularly sophisticated, although those are the ones likely to haul a car away on a flatdeck and deal with it at their leisure. GPS blockers and OBDII access - they may be out there, but they are far from common - and I've never heard of them, nor was I able to find reports of being used in car theft (nor of OBDII alarm bypass methods at all, although GPS blockers can be purchased at spy gear shops and websites). You're more likely to have your remote key fob code stolen at a Starbucks by a thief using a laptop-based scanner - a theft mode used to steal Schumacher's Ferrari, amongst others, but limited to high end vehicles with keyless ignitions (that rely on an embedded chip and wireless codes exchanged between the "key" and ignition module).

By contrast to that sort of sophistication, over 20% of vehicles stolen in Canada are stolen with the keys in them - from the people who run into Macs or 7-11 or leave the car idling to warm up in the morning.

Worth noting: car thefts per 100,000 have declined year-to-year for over a decade now in all but Winnipeg and Regina. Factory alarms and security measures are credited with much of the decline. They seem to work reasonably well.

the main concern i have over here is I CANT AFFORD TO LOOSE HER!

The point most have been making, is the stupid car thieves (vast majority) will do smash and grabs regardless, and you can't do much about that but keep the car where its safe, and don't leave stuff in it that makes it attractive. Alarms and disablers will prevent the casual thief from actually jacking your ride, but won't stop a determined and talented thief - a lot less of those, but they are out there.

Our cars, when in nice shape, do attract lots of compliments and attention, but even LHD FD's in nice shape are selling in the mid-teens, down from the mid-twenties a couple years ago, when a nice JDM could go for that kind of price - and JDM's generally go for around 2/3 what a comparable LHD will. 7's, even FD's, have a pretty limited audience that actually knows and appreciates them, even though lots of people like the look and will compliment them. I've had people pull over on the street for a second look and to ask about my FC, and people at gas stations nattering about "some kind of Ferrari there" - which would be flattering, except it mostly just says how little the person knows about sports cars generally, let alone 7's or Ferraris.

I see RHD FD's all the time, even in winter in fact - probably more than I see FC's on the road any more even - lot of them getting abused and misused by kids who don't know much more than the average car thief about them, in fact. Though not as many as I see of mostly lower-end Skylines, which I literally see every day (not the same one). Another, much more popular choice of the FnF crowd. There's no accounting for taste.

So enjoy your car, and don't sweat it too much. Get yourself a decent alarm if you're concerned, no point in your car being an easy mark, but don't be worrying that someone is just waiting out there to jack a 17+ year old Mazda with great handling (which most people don't really understand or care about), and only decent jam in a straight line. Unless, of course, you leave it idling with the keys in it at the convenience store or java shop. In which case, you'll need to buy your friends "I'm with stupid" t-shirts :)

Hey i just wanted to throw this question out there......even if u did install a camera or several inside a car to deter theives such as smash and grab...that the pictures may not be "beyond a reasonable doubt" that a crime is committed or perhaps that its not enough to get the person convicted....

cause u know as they say...1 in 10 crimes are ever reported and like out of that stat 1 in 10 reported crimes are ever associated with finding a suspect...and that 1 in 10 suspects are ever convicted in court......good grief doesnt give us a good chance of getting baddies of the street....hell maybe we all should be theives...lol

but i parked my subie once in a university campus and my gps got stolen by some smash and grab people....i called the police and they didnt do crap......thought there were gonna like call in crime scene people and do finger printing or something.....they like talked to me for like 5 mins and like....welll have a good day .....wtf......i know its hard to catch these people but could he have done abit more..... so my experiences with cops gives me a negative appreciation on the work they do........
