Are Ontario's roads getting worse?

Yes they are – blame recycled motor oil: Recycled materials added to pavement mix making Ontario's roads worse - The Globe and Mail

Makes you wonder if they should make the busy highway sections (Gardiner, 401, etc) into toll roads and use the money to upkeep those busy sections....would be nice if all the highways looked like the 407.... even Mississauga started with that nice stretch on the 401

We have some nice newly-surfaced roads in the area (after enduring years of traffic-stopping construction and looking forward to more ahead), but I wonder if they'll stay that way with our extreme climate and this adulterated asphalt.

I was driving around and I noticed the new toll road, Highway 412, is nearly completed in Whitby. It might be a sign of things to come... I'm conflicted about toll highways because it will mean higher costs to drive (especially without a transponder), but the time savings and better surface should balance well against the cost if you're a frequent commuter.

Gee..I always wanted to take a leisurely drive from Kingston To Toronto..and pay 400 dollars for "road maintenance"..

Maybe instead of Motor Oil they could put in Vaseline..
That way you could drive with "slicks"..lol!

Just remember, we are already paying for road maintenence in our gas taxes, however a number of years ago the funds were moved into general income and that's when the roads turned to shite.

It's not a problem of funds and I hate paying twice for things.

Back then I worked for at that time a well known construction company name of Armstrong Construction , they had a contract to rebuild parts of the @1 both sides of Thunderbay for some distance ,, English River , Dryden , . of course the biggest part of that area is rock and water and trees . they did test ares with different products , actually burried car tires in the boggy areas , and even then they were still trying corduroy on roads to help support , One area they laid out miles upon miles of some type of special styrofoam in pieces about 14 ft. long by maybe 6 ft. wide .. Two rows right in front of the spreader and just spreading right over it trying to keep the pavement from turning into what looked like waves stretched out in front of you . dont know if it worked or not .. long story short even the cost of a mile of highway then was staggering I cant imagine what it would cost now .. Hell of a part of the country to try to build road in .. .. In Saskatchewan I think our roads are actually improving . Also if they could keep mister off the roads with his snowplow machine things would be better ..
Best thing about that part of Ontario was the most beautiful Italian women I have ever seen ,, Well the ones under thirty or so anyway , after that it seemed things kinda shifted a tad .,
