New division of Government enforcement?
 

I was recently in Niagara Falls, and I saw something I have never seen before: Environmental Enforcement vehicles. The first one I saw was sitting at a highway weigh station parked next to an MTO vehicle, and then I saw another that had pulled over some kid in a shitbox old cutless with big pipes sticking out the side. The vehicles are white with a blue stripe with a gold stripe underneath it, running the length of the vehicle down the side.

Has anyone seen them before? I assume they just do roadside emission checks and what not? tickets for no cats, etc...????

Ive seen these a few times before. Usually sitting around the weigh stations with MTO vehicles. Theyre also usually around for the summer long weekend blitzes.

Yes they aren't really 'new' I don't think. I've already been pulled over by one. They are looking for cars with expired e-tests, shitty-looking cars that shouldn't be on the road, etc. They are able to pull license plate info. I've only ever seen them with a green stripe though.

I think dj55b was busted by one this summer. Although he mentioned the police had the checkpoint and the environmental officer was doing the looking.

This is not a new enforcement agency.

I haven't seen them do road side emission ... but I've definatly been caught by them ... They pick on older cars, or anything that looks modified.

They sure do look like they're going around alot more often now though.

They don't do roadside emissions but they have very detailed records of what kind of emissions equipment every car should have. To my knowledge if they catch you without a valid current e-test pass or without some working emissions equipment like an air-pump they can either fine you and/or make you do an e-test within some amount of days. -something along those lines anyways. I see them sitting by the on-ramp to the 401 at least once a week - usually alongside an OPP car.

Juusst great! Looks like me and my turbo back rb exhaust will have a problem next summer :(

long story short
they said it was an unsafe vehicle
and towed it away infront of my eyes to sum junkyard.. for which i paid

They sit at the on-ramps watching cars turning to get onto the highway. I'm referring to Ajax at either Westney or Salem going east when I leave for school in the mornings. They can't see the actual 401 traffic from where they sit so they just get people as they are getting on.
Also, further east into Oshawa before Stevenson they have a station there which is also a transport truck weigh station. They always have cars in that area, and if a truck skips the weigh station they go out to pull it over.

If they decide to get under your vehicle to check for a cat and you don't have one I would assume you'll be fined some amount - not sure if someone else knows for sure. They can catch those fake straight through cats that they sell at Pacific mall too.

You won't be towed from my understanding with talking to the cop. The fines are 365$ per item missing, but most of the time, especially for a first time offence of it, they'll only charge you for one of the things but will still tell you to correct everything else. He also told me to go to court and most of the time if you have already fixed the problem and tell them that (and I guess show proof of the installation, ie receipt by a shop or something of the work) they will drop that charge considerably, my court date isn't till 21 of december I believe so I don't know exactly how much they will be dropping it yet.

Now if you've been caught twice for the same things, well then they can pull your plates until you correct the everything that needs to be corrected and they would have to really check things out before you get your plates back.

And you drive FB if I'm correct? So the pre-1987 emission exemption doesn't matter?

They can't ticket you for an expired e-test if your car is older than 1987, but you still have to have the emissions equipment hooked up. You can obviously drive around without it but only until you get caught.

i never see them around york or any toronto collectors
but i have seem them in newmarket, 400, orangeville and places like up north
