Mounting Side Skirts
 

Seeing as lots of guys here mount racy panels to their cars, is there a recommended way of semi-permanently mounting side skirts so I don't have to drill into the body? Maybe a good 2 sided tape?

There is a lot of good tape out there by 3M that holds like 30 pounds(outdoor adhesive).I got some at CTC and the shit is strong.I had to pry the gauge pod off with a screwdriver..haha!

I did drill into my body (no,not self mutilation..lol) but I used the plastic "christmas tree" type fasteners for installing interior panels/door panels.It looks clean and you don't see screws everywhere.Plus they are paintable.

Thanks. I don't want to drill into the body as its for the Cougar and it has some value as a historical racecar, so I just want them to be on semi permanent. Strong enough to stay on, but not damaging the sheet metal. The Pig, not so much, but that RX7 runs so well right now that I don't really want to mess with it. I have attached the skirts mounted with racers tape as I was test fitting them. Biggest issue other than the tape, is that the doors now need to be re-adjusted as they wont close with the added glass lip going into the door opening. Grrrrr.....

The whole purpose is to have a place to mount side skirts. Going all aero on the cat and besides I really don't like the whole body look between the front and rear wheels on the car under acceleration. Semantics.

And before anyone says anything, yes I have way too much stuff in my garages. You should see the other one, all stuffed full of tires, wheels and transmission parts. when I go out to work on the cars, I have to play Tetris for a while and then when I am finished, I have to do it again, LOL.

3M red foam tape for mounting trim. It's a pressure activated adhesive. Once pressed into place and then left cure for 24 hours (make sure the temperature is above 15 degrees or so) it's not coming off without great effort.

Naturally make sure both surfaces are clean. Generally one pulls off the backing and then sticks the tape to the item to be adhered. Then just pull a few inches of backing off the other side. Position on the car, press corners into place, then continue to pull off the backing as you go down the tape line and press. Once totally adhered, give it good pressure along the entire line.

Eric the SVT skirts have a hook set up tat you rivet on every few feet. Of note I haven't gotten a call from your teammate.

Sorry Jason. I had a guy with a Cougar and an SVT test fit them down in Ohio, not even a close fit, lol. The Cougar is actually longer from wheel well to wheel well for some reason. I am just going to use the ones I have.
