is it illegal to drive without a hood ?
 

I have to drive from Hamilton to caledon to pick up a Turbo Hood.

And I dont think i can fit it in the passenger seat with the top down

Ideas?

Hauling a hood with an 7... Maybe pull the passenger seat out if you absolutely have to use the 7? I have no idea if it will fit.. but it only takes a few minutes to take it out and you can always measure your current hood before doing it.

NO.it won't fit...But it will fit in a Pontiac Montana.
2 hoods,full five lug swap,wheels.leaving seats in.

I drive around all the time with no hood, never get in trouble.

I thinks its fine if you have your battery held down and you dont have any oil leaks or anything

I would like to see the segment in the highway traffic safety act that specifically states you need a hood. I see many vehicles on a regular basis, especially in the summer that indicates its not illegal. Oilfield bed trucks do not have hoods. The bugatti veyron, also has no hood.

As far as I know you just need a fan shroud.

It is legal. But there can be no loose parts. Once everything is secure you're good to go. Not a bad idea to double check, but I'm 99% sure.

The police can likely give you a ticket for missing defective/missing equipment (Alberta TSA Sec 66(1)(f) i, iii, but probably won't if you're not driving in such a way as to draw attention to yourself in the first place. The missing hood could, for example, cause a pedestrian to be seriously injured where it might otherwise be a minor or no injury.

There's not a chance it would fit in the car. I brought mine home on the roof of my station wagon (another reason I love my wagon - can get more stuff in it than most SUVs, and what doesn't go in, goes on the roof rack - and the rest of the time, I have a car that gets decent mileage, and handles like a German car should ;))

The answer is yes and no.

To operate a vehicle on Ontario provincial roads you are required to have a "safe" vehicle. Ontario determines the "safety" of a vehicle by a mechanics saftey inspection (the same safety you need to register a car as "fit").

A hood is not required to be safe.

HOWEVER working windshield wiper squirters are. If yours are on your hood and your hood is not there, then technically you can get in trouble.

on a similar note, i remember way back in driver training class the instructor said that legally you must have functional windshield wipers, BUT there is nothing that actually says that you need to have a windshield

ok, aside from the debate whether its legal or not......whats the reason for even running around without a hood? your car cannot be over heating that bad....or is this another hella jdm trend that i do not know about?

I was in the same shoes before and called York Regional police.

They informed me that it is legal to drive without a hood as long as you don't have any loose parts and that it's not emitting liquid and/or smoke.

The washer nozzles are located on the hood. With the hood removed you have no washer nozzles. As part of the Highway Traffic Act every vehicle must have functioning washer system to legally pass a safety inspection. So no its not legal. But I'm sure you could get away with it for a few hours to go swap hoods. Or leave it on and swap hoods with the person your getting it from.

Cops should be pretty familiar with the Highway Traffic Act as they enforce it...but most are not, I'd do it. But I would not jeopardize my license by signing a safety for such a vehicle...but thats a totally different scenario.

With the hood removed, position the washer nozzle feeds to shoot at the windshield either by pointing the tube at it or just zip tie the tubes to the wiper arms so fluid gets on the windshield; or just remove the nozzles from the hood too so you can use those to spray.

Removing the hood is not illegal; disabling the washer system is.

I prefer to not draw attention to what is under the hood. Since most of what is under the hood of my rx7 is illegal in ontario. The outside of the car is mostly stock looking and apart from the noises it makes it doesn't draw too much heat from the po-po. Without a hood is like a giant flashing sign

fuel tank, 2 headlights assembly, 2 front fenders, 1 s5 bumper, 2 235/45/17 tires, and a box of other stuff (boost controller, turbo timer &gauges). loll

on the contrary, do it during the day when there is a lot of traffic, and cops are busy, rather than picking a time of day when they are bored with nothing better to do.

Frankly, i'd be concerned about rocks and stuff flying into the bay, but i'm a large baby lol
