HIDs for our cars.

Would anyone want to put HID kits in our cars??
In the past, I have heard no talk of it what so ever....
If we bling out our cars with body kits and shinny chrome turbos, why not HIDs that look nice and are functional too??

What color temperature would you guys put in?

There is an article on this in the Feb. Road and Track about afermarket HID's IIRC.

I would put in the JDM's yo! ;)

Don't make me release my NRC emails, about you putting a turbo on your car, to the public...:D

That was when I was young and dumb.....

I have a set of H4 4500 K HIDs for the FD.

Don't want to put them into the stock reflectors :( Mainly due to the glare issue.

I have put them in for a "TEST" fit and the improvement is HUGE. although the glare is equally bad.

I am likely going to go aftermarket light kit/custom light kit.

The HIDs will probably be sold as most aftermarket/custom kits do NOT use H4 lights.

Hmm....really?
I have good cutoff now with my PIAA H4 housings.....

H4 housings from PIAA?

The stock lens/housing makes for terrible cutoff. :(

H4 type, 2-way bulbs are not true HID.

we are talking about a true high intensity discharge systems here, right? with ballast and everything?

well the best colour from a technical standpoint involves many factors. it may be said that generally you want to get about the same temperature colour as the sun, which is ~5800 K. however, there are other things to consider. like the weather conditions, the environment, etc, and most importantly the properties of light itself. i believe higher kelvin temperature have a shorter wavelength. however in terms of eyesight, the human eye is worse at picking up higher wavelength light than lower. to add to this higher wavelength EM waves are more easily absorbed by the environment. this is why radio waves can travel so far, they have very long wavelengths. in fact, most OEM HID systems have recently become lower in temperature colour because of this.

so i say that about 5000 K max would be for the best performance and lighting.

but why did i pick 12K (which i think is non-existent in any HID kit out there)? because it's purple and is mad tyte...

H4 dual beam are true HID.
They work on electron discharge in the xenon gas.
Take a look at the pic.

Some one needs to catch up on technology ;) j/k

BTW, 12000K have been around for a yr now. It emitts a deep purple light, like the ones in vid games. Looks cool, but lighting is horrible!
