Can anyone help with my rusty floor
 

My rx7 has rust holes in its floor, but my frame is solid enough. Does anyone have experience with this job? I'd be willing to pay for your time and provide beer and bbq lol. I'm located in etobicoke.

Rust sucks, and if there are holes, I'm going to guess you have more, and more serious rust than you think - pay particular attention to the sills and rocker panels, and the metal seam along the bottom of the rockers, as this area is the "frame" in a unit body car - and quite difficult to repair. You might need to evaluate whether the car is worth saving, or if you'd be better scrapping it and finding a clean shell if you have good parts you want to move over.

Project Binky on YouTube is entertaining, and unlike Mr. Cake's salvage of a relatively rare and relatively clean chassis, these blokes for some reason chose to use a rather rusty example of the ubiquitous Mini as the base for their project, which also means a lot of the episodes deal with rust repair. I'd seriously recommend watching the first episode here, just for an idea at how much rot can be hidden in a floor and rockers... it looked like a semi-solid car, but by the time they were done, all the floor, door frames, and sills were replaced.

Not to discourage you, but if you can afford to pay someone to do very much in the way of rust repair, you might be better able to afford a cleaner car. Or, do a hack job yourself, with some galvanized sheet steel, a pop-riveter, and some good caulk. My dad did that to get a couple or three years more years use out of a beater GLC he drove to work before he retired.

Here's the problem with rust: what you can see is the tip of the iceberg.

If there are rust holes in the floor then almost certainly you will find rust where the firewell meets the sill in the front wheel wells, the "dog legs" at the sill/front of rear wheel wells, inner sill meeting the floor, seat rails meeting the floor, floor meeting rear crossmember, spare tire well, A pillar/firewall area. Sadly that's just the way. So at that point one must consider how far the repair will go. Patching a few holes in the floor and ignoring the rest isn't too big of a job. But the interior has to come out. When one starts looking at all the other areas then the job becomes very large indeed. As in major disassembly, probably some media blasting, and a repaint.

Thankfully a lot of FC sheet metal is available either used or from the dealer. Still a whore of a job though.

Trouble with floor repair is that it can get costly and it comes down to how good you want to repair it,how long it will last, how much you want to spend and lastly how long are you going to keep the car.
You can do a 2 hour pop rivet/sheet metal/roof patch floor repair..OR you can make the floor new.
Sort of 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

For Beer and BBQ..No offense,you get pop rivets..!

If you were near me I'd do it..but hell..I got 400 days of work to do this year!
