does anyone know what the deal with this track is? apparently it was supposed to open last year, but from what i hear it is still not.
it looks like a pretty cool track, and the fact that it is targeted towards club, and not pro, racing definetly is appealing. would love to try out some lapping days there since it is so close (within my free towing distance, lol).

if it does open sometime soon, it would be great to try a track day or something, definetly close for all the Ottawa and Montreal folks. i wonder how pricing will be...

I can't say for sure - but this is the rumor that I heard from a local real estate agent. May be true - may not be; but it's what I know.

It was supposed to open last year but the local tree huggers banded together and slowed the whole thing down. Last I heard they had to go through a whole new set of environmental impact tests - especially noise pollution, so no idea how long that will take.

i knew there was an initial delay, and the local residents put up some fuss, but i thought they got through all that zoning amendment stuff.

maybe i will take a drive by there sometime to at least check out the location and maybe see the track, take some pics

Calabogie was suppose to be a solo1 event this year. Currently they are cancled. The track has been told to stop all construction work pending township decision. Most likely it seems the track will be shut down and torn apart. It's too bad really, they even went through all the proper channels. I guess you can get more income tax from home owners than on race tracks.

Same deal with TMP. Althought it was built without proper permits, the township is most likely giong to close taht one down as well.

So all there is left is dunnville (I think they are in trouble too)... Shannonville, and Mosport DDt, Mosport Grand Prix track.

i know the MCO events that have been scheduled for this summer there have been cancelled, but they still seem very optimistic about full on racing in 2006.

i was really hoping for a good road course that is less than a 2 hour drive away.
the elevation changes (65 feet) and some straight-ending turns looked really fun. the 5.05km long track length is pretty impressive also.

It is such a shame that they are considering scrapping the project - it would have been a great venue.

At just over 2 hours you can go to Tremblant. That is a fantastic course - lots of elevation change and a good mix of corners.

From what I have been told, Calabogie was never really meant for open lapping. Rather it would have been for 'club events'.

Also, the track rental fees where quite high...

true, but get a good enough group together and anything becomes cheap :)

but like i said the MCO had a few dates set, including a lapping day, that have been cancelled. they are still optimistic.

if the track opens soon they want to do a fun open lapping weekend, that's what i would be interested in.

If you consider $150-200+ for lapping cheap, then yeah, it's cheap ;)

for full day, unlimited laps by image motorsports yes.

Shannonville is one of the more affordable tracks to rent.

it is sad to here about calabogie, I really hope they dotn scrap the project.

It seems like tracks everywhere are under fire from the public. Sparta, the local drag strip was sued by citizens who moved in LONG AFTER the track existed and complained about the noise!

IMO collitions of the tracks, local gas stations, performance shops and the Police should be fighting all these idiots to let the tracks exist.

My neighbours and I have recently had a fight with the local township. They're completely unreasonable, illogical and irresponsible. They have zero interest in the greater good of the township or of individuals. They're dishonest to boot and have acted in an unprofessional manner.

It's all about money. A race track does not generate enough money compared to property taxes and incentives from developers who are looking to the township to rezone the area.
