Anyone ever Import a FD from Australia?
 

Obviously it's much cheaper to find and import a 1999+ FD from japan but the condition of AUS cars seem to be much better with low kms and are relatively stock.

Just curious if anyone has gone that route and how much it cost them.

Most of the aussie FDs were imported from Japan via grey market, so you will be paying a premium to go through australia.

I do think it matters where you import the car from. It all depends on how the previous drivers took care of it, and when it comes to.the procedures its pretty much h the same and it'll cost the same

Thanks, I figured it would be a lot easier to deal with an english speaking country. I'll just look hard for a very clean FD from japan

yes, you just need look at higher ratings.

most the stuff i think is 4.5 ( on the cheap side ) . the good stuff is 3.5 up .

The aussies pay lots of taxes, so to them its only worth it when getting the premium stuff 2 and better.

Sorry, 4.5 is on the cheap side or good quality because you mentioned anything higher then 3.5 is good.

I guess I wrote that confusing.


The rating is as such: ( good FD would be a 4 to 5 ) below 4 ( so 3.5 , 3 is worst condition ) .

due to car being older than 15 years in most cases, it will be hard to find anything in the 4.5 range.

I would be happy with a 3.5 to 4 FD .


Most of the cars they brought into quebec before than ban was a R to 2


Exterior Grade


5 Excellent condition. Obviously this is the best you can get This is basically a new car in showroom condition.

4.5 Very good condition This kind of car is a rarity for a 15-Year old car, assuming the car really deserved such a high grade.

4 Good condition This is usually the highest grade a 15-Year old car will get in the Japanese auctions.

3.5 Average condition with noticeable but not severe repairs, scratches or dents. This grade is a bit of a gray area. Some cars we've seen should have fallen in the grade 3 area, some should have received a grade 4.


3 Average condition with conspicuous scratches, dents, repairs and maybe some faded/peeling paint or blemishes. Unless you work at a bodyshop and are experienced in repainting and repairing panels you probably want to avoid any of the cars here.


0/R/RA/-1/1 Repaired vehicle or high modified. A car which has had minor or major accident damage (we find most cars in this category have had major head on collisions) and has been repaired. The grade may appear differently at different auctions and sometimes the car may not have been repaired but is given this grade because it is highly modified. If you see a car that says "A" for the grade it doesn't mean grade A goodness, it means accident.

We don't recommend these cars unless the car was physically inspected and is determined to be in good mechanical condition and that any modifications don't make it unsuitable or illegal for general road use.

Also make sure the repair was good, however there are often cars that look good on the outside that have poor or shoddy repairs.

Usually cars in this category tend to have more problems, just like you wouldn't want to buy a Canadian writeoff we don't advise you purchase one of these unless you verify the condition in and out.

There is a few good importers in BC , Alberta, Ontario ( toronto ) .

these guys are in BC and are hit n miss, but good thing is they are already here and you can see them in flesh ( some of their stock ) , other stuff is pay for them to bring in

No offense,but I'm just wondering why you would want a car that got sold and shipped out of Japan,sent to Australia and then you buy and ship it to Canada.
The mark up would be in the shipping from Japan to Australia,..and you would be paying for that alone.Then they would price the car for profit..then you would pay for shipping from an Island basically at the bottom of the globe!

My Dad(rest his soul) would say it sounds like you are wiping before you poop!

Wow thank you for explaining that in depth. I'll keep a eye out for one in a 3.5 condition or higher. I'm located in Toronto, the only importer I know of here with good cars is rightdrive.ca but there cars are extremely over priced. Unfortunately I can't Check out Tyeeimports

Even though I knew I would be paying extra, finding a the FD I wanted was much easier in Australia vs Japan. Since Japan exports who knows how many cars another concern of mine is that the scamers that take avantage of people trying to get a good deal. Then send them a beat up RX-7 which was nothing like they saw on the add.

Obviously same thing could happen in Australia but I figured it would be easier to deal in english.

I thought I would be buying a Australian RX-7 but if I'm still buying a Japanese one exported I might aswell go back to Importing from Japan

I've heard of them problem is they are so far. Is your friend buying local stock or are they shipping the wrx fpr him?

I would like to maybe meet and talk with someone that imported a car. Every time a search a importer there is both good and bad things about them.

If it goes through, he will fly to BC and drive the car back to ontario with a BC temp.
