One comment I should make about fuel boosters, the commercial ones are garbage, a complete waste of money, I agree.

But, in my area, there are no 94 octane pumps for ~100 km or so, so I need to rely on 91 octane plus AI. If I take some trips down to Cayuga, I'll definitely pick up some higher octane fuel and just run water injection, but for at home, I had limited options.

Anyways, I picked up a 5 gallon pail of Xylene, which is similar to Toluene, a common fuel additive. Toluene has an octane rating of 114, and Xylene of 117. If you mix Xylene, which is about $5.90 / L here, at 11.5% to 91 octane, it produces roughly 94 octane ( I know octane isn't calculated exactly this way, but it's close enough for my purposes)

So, in a 70 L tank, 8L of Xylene @ 5.90/L, plus 62 L of 91 at say $1.15/L gives me $118.5/tank, or about $1.70 / L. It's steep, but it's the best I've got, plus I have the opportunity to mix it in stronger percentages to make race-worthy fuel.

FYI, early turbo F1 cars used an 86% blend of Toluene for fuel. Its only downfall is it does not contain lubricating properties, but I pre-mix anyways. Plus, the benefit of this is there is next to no alcohol in the fuel, which for tuning AFR purposes makes it less variable then guessing the percentage.

One last thing, since the temporary ban on leaded fuels made the supply of leaded race fuels in Canada dry up, all that's offered right now at Cayuga is MS103 and MS109.

MS109 is $4.75/L, to produce it by mixing 91 and Xylene would be a 70% Xylene blend, and cost about $4.50/L for reference. But, it's illegal to mix your own fuel for racing purposes. Just some food for thought...

I just filled up my FD with Petro 94, a place where it used to be Sunoco station. They claimed it's the same top grade quality 94 gas, and my FD drives and feels the same. Just registered a Petro points card too, lol....

I used to have 5 sunoco's around where I live. Each one has been turned into a husky and so far the ones that I've checked out have all dropped the 94 octane.

I've been meaning to ask what happens to our sunoco points. Do they carry over or are we suppose to use them up?

Stinsons in Ontario carries a variety of high octance racing fuels that are worth looking in to, such as GT 98. We use Pro Racing Mark 2 (110 Octane Unleaded) in our race car. I think it's under $5 per liter.

I prefer Shell 91 over any of those ethanol blended gasolines. Mind you, I have a 99.7% stock FD, so I'll eat a coolant seal long before non-Sunoco gas kills my engine anyway.

Does this imply that higher octane fuel requires more timing to work properly?

Yes, and/or boost. If you take a car tuned for 94 octane and just threw in a batch of 110, with no change to boost or timing, you would most likely end up losing power, at least that's been the case in the cars I've seen.

Stinsons sell a lot of their fuel in 20L jugs, which makes it easy to transport.

Petro don't accept our Sunoco card, so I registered a Petro points card.... I didn't ask them what will happen to our Sunoco points. But I checked Sunoco's website, they said:

"Can I transfer my points today? Will they be automatically transferred?

* At this time, you cannot transfer points between programs.
* Both the PETRO-POINTS and Sunoco Performance Points can be redeemed according to those individual programs.
* Points that our members have accumulated and continue to accumulate will be honoured.

if you don't mind me asking, what is their pricing like? I definitely want to try them out if I make it down South for some races, especially since I called VP Canada in the GTA and they only had a few leftover pails of C16 left, and tracks frown upon injecting alternative fuels in your intake...

Does Petro have a locator for stations with 94?

I went to a normal Petro Canada station, and saw they have 94 gas there now. (Kennedy & HW7) in Markham

they better open some new pumps in north york too . ... or they better sell 94!!!

I was told by the owner operator of a Sunoco Gas station I deal with all the time, that the petro Canada 94 is the same as Sunoco 94. I thought Petro Canada bought out Sunoco and is converting most of the Sunoco's to Petro Canada Stations.
Unfortunately the Sunoco around the corner from where I live is closing and nothing is coming in to replace it.

It's the same gas, I believe the head company is called Suncor; or something like that. It owns both companies, which is why the 94 @ petro is in sunoco colours.
