What goes around comes around: It's back..

Well I have been posting up some of my progress elsewhere on the forum and decided I would start my build thread as the car is nearing completion. A little background: I bought this car back in 2007 along with a parts car from a guy that knew nothing about them, he owned them for a few years and only managed to screw up the tune on the WOLF3d in the years of his ownership. The guy I bought it from also managed to screw up the title by signing it and never registering it. I picked it up anyway and decided to track down the previous owner to beg and plead him to apply for a lost title and then (with a little bribe) sell the car to me. Turned out that the previous owner had screwed him out of some money on the unfinished transaction between the two of them and he was less than happy about doing the legwork to sell the car to me as he had been screwed out of a few thousand on the other sale.. Long story short I got the title and ultimately got the car back on the road..

Here is a picture the day I picked them up not running.. (well until I adjusted the tune onsite and drove it home.. Had to tow the other one though..)

It was an N/A with very odd options. I couldnt get the tune right on the wolf3d as the nice guys in NZ spent hours trying to help although most of the tunes were for boosted applications. So I decided to Turbo the car and go stock harness (running the car 6port turbo on N370 electronics) Here is a shot of the car as I took care of the wiring and smoothed out the ports..

I drove the car turbo'd for a little while, although I decided to daily drive the car so I removed the turbo and went back to the N/A intake although left the N370 electronics. Made the car a little bit of a pig in the low end but it was a beast in the top.. I drove it to work for a few months and then put a new exhaust on it.. About that time I decided to pay off some debt (car debt and a motorcycle payment) so the day came when I needed to sell it...

So fast forward to 2012. I have owned a few RX-7s since the red s5 posted above, a mint 87 turbo2, I converted a 91 N/A to turbo, and I brought a 10th AE back to life with an S5 motor swap. I was searching craigslist as I always do after the sale of the 10th AE and what did I see?? Yep my old red 91 was up for sale. It had been driven 400 miles since I sold it in 2007. The motor was long gone and is at the shop at RE-SPEED, don't ask me why the fresh rebuild was pulled out of the car as I cannot answer that.. But sitting under the hood was a very clean low mileage T2 motor.. (may be a Jspec, but I am not sure as there are a lot of signs pointing to the fact that it might be a USDM block).. I picked it back up with a truck load of parts and started to work..

How it looks right now, needs a little polishing, still not quite running yet, needs fuel and a little tweaking, but overall it is really nearing completion.. Just needs me to get off the computer and go out to the garage..

Think you meant to put this in the 2nd gen section

JerryLH3 02-20-12 07:30 AM

It's looking good. Now, you just need to find a front lip to complete the stock look of a TII.

jerd_hambone 02-20-12 09:05 AM

And the sideskirts! Can't forget those.

But that's a clean clean clean car. I've already pointed out your attention to detail haha.

Got is running and idling today, drove it around the neighborhood.. COuldnt go too far as the MMO that was pickling the motor was making a pretty big scene (smoking lol) but I found a few little vacuum leaks so i will have to sort them out, then tune it to purrfection..

Sorted out the vacuum leak, and think that I took care of the minor coolant leak. Took a little time with the buffer and got it shiney again.. Hopefully I can take it on a few long drives and get her ready for DGRR.

On to the pictures.. Video to follow sometime this week.
