Check this out. Same concept even though it's for "megasquirt".

Alternator upgrade wiring for S4 cars

For S5 cars using a FD alternator, it is plug & play. Consult the S5 wiring diagram for a pinout. Personally, I think swapping to a Taurus Alternator would be the most logical solution. One Ignition-Switched 12v wire and one constant 12v sensor wire.

i was actually trying to use an rx8 alternator...but you say if i use a s5 na its a direct plug in ? does the taurus alternator bolt directly in?

I understand that you have an REW swap and are using the FD engine management harness, but there's no way you ripped out the front harness as well, unless you're running some sort of painless wiring for everything else (which would ironically be very painful).

The point is that the alternator field power comes from the front harness, a plug right there in the passenger's floor behind the right kickpanel. Since your CAR is an S4 NA, the website I posted for you would be exactly what you need to get your alternator charging again. FYI, I use an FD alternator in my 88 convertible, which has a TII engine and Megasquirt ECU, so I know all too well about the alternator wiring.

If you want to go down the taurus alternator route, there is a writeup (tons of them actually if you search) in the 2nd gen archive. It's not a direct bolt-on, but easily modified though. I'm sure for someone who has swapped in an REW into an FC, this is not going to be a very difficult task :)

In other words get the fc harness follow the two cables that hook up on one of the connectors on the passenger side kick panel and hook up the alternator to those two cables. sorry for the confusion i thought that it was supposed to be connected to the ecu thanks!

You don't even need the NA engine management harness. Really all you have to do is cut and splice some wires. That's what I'd do anyways, vs having to buy (or track down) the whole EM harness for just 2 wires. Just take a look at the FSM. It'll tell you exactly what wires go where.
