Trying to get things popping....

Here's a look at my 87fc.

What I have done so far.......

Went to radio shack and bought two L.E.D.s and three connectors to make a tps light. After that i was able to get it running. After test driving it, I realized because it sat for so many years the brakes were shot. So I put pads all the way around it. Next i accessed the damages and needs to restore and started on my nightmare or quest. (Too soon to know). Yesterday I drop the seats off to be redone and i am on my way to pick them up. Hopefully they are done. The guy charged me 150 for each seat. I dont know if thats too much or not. I only know i am tired of this fc sitting and rusting away. I will keep you all posted over the next few weeks and hopefully I can find all I need to put it back together.

I ordered 18" x 8" chrome wheels with a 38 offset. Hopefully they will fit. Tires are 225 40 18. It goes to the paint shop on thursday. I am trying to figure out if i am going to have the molding painted white with the car or leave it as black. But i will keep you posted.

i love new build threads, cant wait to see her all fresh and clean! good luck!

Good luck with your build!
I think you should definately paint the moulding the same color as the car. In my opinion the black trim is more of an 80s look.

REAmemiya_fan 03-28-12 12:06 PM

Well the car IS an '87... Keep the trim black, S4 love!

Thats true, but its not 87 anymore. I'm not a fan of keeping cars original, but if you are then spend more money on a car that looks exactly like everyone elses.

Looks like we have different tastes there Mouse! I love the nostalgic feeling of driving a stock classic compared to a race machine built for the road. It seems now more than ever that stock sevens are the minority to modified ones.

What all did you have done to the seats? Rebuilding of foam or reupholstered? Or both? It would be nice to see some before and after pictures of the seats if possible. It seems these days a lot of people tend to just put in aftermarket seats or let the stock seats rot.

Silvertongue62 03-29-12 10:04 AM

The seats are just getting rebuilt. The foam as well has the reupholstering. Unfortunately I didnt take pics of the seats before i sent them. But I will post pics after they are done before i put them back in. I was surprised at how easy the seats came out. Just four bolts. 3 mins a seat. Lol....

I asked a question in the other forum but no one has answered it. Here is the question.

I have an 87fc but i want to put 90 or 91 mirrors on it. Will they fit and do i have to change the wiring harness connectors? I dont want to buy them until I know what I have in store for me.

87 t-66 I appreciate the response. I just didnt want to buy these things and end up wasting money. So thanks again.....

Good start same model as mines..... Mines is still stock as well but I had to get it mechanically working first. Keep up the work.

Silvertongue62 03-30-12 11:51 AM

Thanks for the encouragement. I have no idea what i am doing, but I'm doing it.

Silvertongue62 03-31-12 01:26 PM

seat came back today. They did a decent job at rebuilding them. I didnt have anything crazy done. Just had them rebuilt to factory standards.

Wow those seats turned out great. If its in your budget get new window trim for the doors they are definitely worth it.

The front windshield trim is worth salvaging though especially since new ones are around $270 for the pair. Mine were chipped up pretty bad too, but a few hours worth of work will get them looking like new again.

I am planning on getting new window trim for the doors only because the insulating rubber is hard and brittle. Otherwise i would just clean them. As far as the windshield molding goes. I am going to clean that rust up and paint it. Just a little baking soda and real lemon juice will do the trick. I don't even have to take them off for that.

I put the seats in the car today just to see what they felt like. And i have to tell you, they were nothing like the hard dried up seats they were last week. So now that i have fitted the seats, I will take them back out and shampoo the carpet. Maybe I'll be able to salvage that too.

BTW - These are the wheels i ordered for the car. So when they get here I just have to send them over to the machine shop to have the hub (66.2) opened up to (67.1) so they will fit. Other than that it's smooth sailing. The drivers side door handle came today as well. So now i guess I can use the drivers door.

It looks like they did a great job at rebuilding those seats. For the price, I'm guessing it may be vinyl? Even still, to have new foam and upholstery done for around $300 for the pair seems like a really great deal to me.

Yeah they did a pretty good job on them. I didnt know what I wanted so I just told him to redo them the same as factory because i will probably change the seats later. I tried to tell this guy he could probably get alot of business if he just built a website and set up shipping. Because they do it all. On the cheap too.

I'm coming along slowly but surely. I have to decide to stop helping everyone else and concentrate on helping myself until i get this car done.

That's not very factory looking to me.
Not saying good or bad, just not very original at all.

It wasn't a very popular seat option, but those seats were indeed on FCs. It was definitely an S4 thing, probably relegated to base models.

I dont know what came in which cars but he did what i asked him to do. The seats that i took him looked just like they look now but only worn out. So I asked him to redo the seats just as they were. And he did that. Now maybe the seats were redone before i got the car by someone else. But he duplicated what was already there.

When i got this car it was a dog. The previous owner had it sitting in the yard because he couldnt get it to run. I bought the car for 400.00. So what ever the case, I'm not complaining.

My biggest problem is finding parts at a reasonable price. The parts for this car cost just as much if not more than the parts on my cadillac or benz.

So one of the things i am looking into now is manufacturing some of these parts.

AzulNinja 04-06-12 09:16 AM

Great start to restoring your new ride. I was considering having my seats redone as well. Lucky for me I have a boy in that business, but I have the seats with the speakers in the headrest. Your seats look good man. Wish you the best in your project, and hope you get her running soon.
