So I got some more stuff done, started by wrapping and coating the rest of the exhaust and installing a Moroso heat blanket over the trans tunnel.
Attachment 716715 Attachment 716716 Installed the ps pump, serpentine belt, idler pulley, ps rack, new tie rod ends, and cooler lines. Attachment 716717 The power steering feels awesome, and I definitely recommend the turn one reducer fitting. The car feels super light on its feet and easier to drive fast. Also installed the spacers, all new light lenses, including jdm sidemarkers :) shitty carport pics Attachment 716718 Attachment 716719 |

So I killed my 265's at the last autox event, so I installed the 275/40's I had in storage.
Attachment 716720 These tires are huge! Big sidewall and super wide tread. They grip really hard but I'm rubbing again due to clearance under load. Also my car is getting sprayed tomorrow, Honda championship white! Here's a couple pics with primer and the 275's in the back: Attachment 716721 Attachment 716722 Attachment 716723 Here's a sweet race truck that was out at the local road course today Attachment 716724 Anyway car should be done wednesday, just in time for the Woodward Dream Cruise, the biggest automotive cruise/show in the world. |
updates?
|
Sweet, just bought a 86 roller to a budget version of the same.

Wow yeah, guess it's time for an update...
The car ended up getting finished just 48 hours before the Dream Cruise, fresh Championship White - Attachment 716725 Attachment 716726 My buddy Tim came up from Ohio with his sweet Impala SS for the cruise - Attachment 716727 Then, some drunk idiot backed into my freshly painted bumper, shattering the whole corner and fender, hit and run - Attachment 716728 So then I re-glassed the fender and front bumper, bondoed, primed, and had it painted all in 24 hours! - Attachment 716729 Attachment 716730 Replaced the body bolts with rivets in the overfenders - Attachment 716731 Attachment 716732 Attachment 716733 When I was taking these pics, a random rainbow appeared behind my building lol Attachment 716734 Attachment 716735 Needs a diffuser really bad! Final wheel specs: 18x10 +25 F&R Tires: front - 245/40 R888 rear - 275/40 R888 25mm front fenders (pulled to 35ishmm) 30mm rear fenders (rear quarters cut and seam sealed) 5mm front spacers 15mm rear spacers Attachment 716736 |

Motor is almost out, car is in a million pieces, taking my time.
Attachment 716737 Check this out though, I got a FREE set of RE070's off of an sti through a forum hookup... AND my neighbor sold me these mint Enkei RS-7's with random Koenig boxes for $150 :) Attachment 716738 Attachment 716739 I'm thinking about painting them lime green with black Enkei stickers.. hmm. These will probably be my street tires for a while so I'm not racking up miles on my race tires. Anyway more news to come on the motor carnage until I can get it over to the builder for diagnosis. Also ordered these: MMR camber links http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...00xOCNzhIQTU3a and MMR trailing arm spherical bearings http://www.mmr-direct.com/Pictures/R...FC3SSB4001.jpg and an Improved Racing oil pan baffle http://s3.racingjunk.com/ui/2/46/201...-Pan-Baffl.jpg Shit.. I'm gonna be in the garage all winter again... |

Since I currently have the poly bushings in the trailing arms they should come out pretty easily. I think I'm going to drop the whole subframe for this install and por-15 everything... + the underbody.
Since the existing pump was supposed to be a "new" oem ls1 unit, it will be replaced with either a melling or ported ls6. I'm also planning on running an oil cooler and an accusump system next season. Also other internal upgrades like rod bolts etc. Painting the new wheels green tonight :) motor is ready to come out, just need a cherry picker. Attachment 716740 |
Keep it up, don't lose focus.
My car is being torn apart soon to so I know your pain. |
OIl cooler? Look up howe racing radiators. They build radiators with build in oil heat exchangers. Seems to work pretty well on a friends FD V8 race car.

You know those rotaries blow up all the time, you should go with a reliable engine like an ls...................wait a minute

but don't judge v8 swaps because of my situation. Realistically this motor has around 100k on it, is 11 years old, not to mention having the poop beat out of it for the duration. LS motors are actually known for being pretty reliable, even under abuse. Every motor wears out eventually, but until I get the motor disassembled we won't know the whole story. |
Haha, he's just being a dink althought I know where he is coming from...
My REW swap has given me no problems in the last 2 years... |
I am............
.......curious as to why this thread has been up in this section for so long and the mods have not relocated it to the Other Engine Conversions Section where it belongs.
Not trying to rain on your LS parade or anything but your post count indicates you should know how this forum works and where everything is located, yet you put this thread in the wrong section? Which leads me to think that you put it in this section on purpose. Why is that if you don't mind me asking? |
cuz it hasn't been attacked like it normally is. Who really cares though?
|
If that is.................

He's posting pictures of his FC in the non technical and PICTURE thread. Are you retarded or just have nothing better to do? There is at least 2 or 3 more LS1 builds in this section as well...no one gives a fuck but you

Look man, all I'm trying to do here is share my information I've learned through here and show others my take on how to build an fc. Not that you probably did, but if you read the opening sentence to this thread here:

Hey guys, I know that v8 cars are sacrilegious on this forum but I figured I'd paste my build over here since a lot of the build still applies to everyone!!
Feel free to voice your own opinion about whatever you want, but it's my opinion that people like yourself hinder the sharing of information and resources because of personal bias. That being said, feel free to bring your rotary fc to the track with me next season; we can compare results. . |

I realize that my car does not use the original drivetrain anymore, but if you haven't noticed the majority of what gets posted in this thread is non ls and picture related. That being said, feel free to bring your rotary fc to the track with me next season; we can compare results. . I am just saying if you want to post pictures of your build put them in the proper place. If this thread was about a Mustang getting a 20B and it was in the section I would still suggest it be moved to the proper section. |
Could we all leave this alone so it doesn't get locked?
|
nice build man it could pass for a nice sleeper if it is quiet on the road i wouldnt think its an ls just by lookin at the exterior

Wow looks like it's been a while since I posted an update, here's where we left off:
The motor showed signs of bearing wear towards the end of its first season, shortly after this event - Attachment 716742 So the car went in the garage for the winter and I got to work, lots of big changes will be happening over the next few months. Took the motor out, dropped the subframe, sent the motor out to the builder and started chassis prep - Attachment 716743 Finished refinishing the 17's, added matte black Enkei stickers, and installed them on the FC for the winter so that the track tires can come inside - Attachment 716744 Attachment 716745 Attachment 716746 Painted the engine bay and front subframe - Attachment 716747 Finished the rear subframe, installed a new stub axle seal, installed MMR individual camber adjusters and MMR trailing arm spherical bearings, coated everything in POR-15 - Attachment 716748 Attachment 716749 Installed a pro 5.0 shifter and steeda shift lever with a 4'' delrin knob, coated the trans in silver POR-15 - Attachment 716750 Installed pinion snubber, cleaned and refinished the entire underbody and wheel wells with 3M rubberized undercoating (about 5 cans) - Attachment 716751 Lots more to come, the chassis (besides a roll cage) is basically finished and ready for the new motor to come back in. I'll post in more detail about the progress on the motor later, but I'll be picking up these super clean C5 Z06 heads this week - http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0349.jpg |
