Hey Higgi,

I'm currently working on the same swap, goal is to utilize stock ecu and wiring harness. Can you help with the details on wiring the motor up in a FC3S NA S5 Chassis? Couldnt find any info of this online. Thank you!

easiest way is to make an adapter so it plugs in. you're on your own for that, so you're off to the wiring diagrams Foxed.ca - Mazda RX-7 Manuals

Avoid the headaches, go with a stand alone ecu.

Can you explain a little bit on what had to be done to get the RX-8 transmission to work? It's a bellhousing and a shifter of a TII transmission right?
I've already destroyed 2 TII transmissions with my semi-pp engine (I think it's because of too much rpm, rev limiter is at 10000), and these boxes are difficult to find here in europe, while RX-8 boxes are easy to find.

John

I am using rx8 trans with rx8 bellhousing, which i modified to take FC TII clutch slave (rx8 slave would hit the oil pedestal/filter in my install).
RX8 starter
Tailshaft housing is from TII, but shifter linkage shortened to have shifter in oem location.
If you need speed sensor, neutral and reverse switches, you will have to modify them a little bit too, but with your skills and equipment its job for one afternoon :)
TII transmission mount will need to be modified too, but again, very eazy hack job :)

I already fitted rx8 superLSD diff as well, in place of oem eu spec TII open diff.....

very clean good job

Time for small update.
Made necessary changes and installed whole rx8 differential, now car does have 4.44 gearing and feels more agile :)

Wow, you find a RX8 diff lying on the roadside and nothing gets in your way. Not sure that front diff mount is an improvement over stock, but it can't be much worse. At least its accessible.
Are you upgrading stock rear mounts to Delrin?
Curious that the axle flange mount spacing is the same between FC, FD and RX8.

hIGGI 05-31-19 03:10 PM

They are here as cheap as lying on the roadside, thats correct. And there is abundance of.
Diff mount should be fine, as its less leverage than on FC lenght of carrier and stiffness of the rubber mount is higher than FC mount too. Yet, no vibrations, no movement, feels good.
As internal of diffs is interchangeable FC/FD/RX8 within housings, there was no issue with spacing/lenght of halfshafts. Only issue was rx8 diff housing being more narrow, which was solved by making adapters for side diff seals (moving them outwards)

Thanks for sharing your creativity hIGGI, it's interesting to see what's possible with some skill & determination.

Oil pressure problem strangely resolved by not touching anything on engine, just hoses and oil coolers. Tested yesterday with 2 FD oil coolers :

No idea whats wrong with the FC coolers/lines to be causing the previously documented pressure problem.

hIGGI 12-18-19 02:32 AM

meantime another REW FC done, this time with FC stock turbo :)

cone_crushr 12-19-19 11:49 AM

Resourceful work as usual hIggi. The sweet FD engine looks like its sitting near the stock location. Single turbo is da kine, but the stock Hitachi compressor on the FC turbo is abysmal. Otherwise, the S5 hot-end can be trimmed and ground into a decent boosting charger.

Not sure where you're finding all these REW motors, but keep it up.

hIGGI 12-20-19 03:45 PM

This one (white fc) actually got brand new crate REW, still easy to be found at the Mazda dealers :)

John Huijben 12-23-19 04:48 AM

Nice work as always, the white FC almost looks stock!

hIGGI 03-19-20 05:21 PM

Thread should be renamed to FC3S Covid-19 edition for the sake of accuracy, but lets get on it.

Twinturbo engine from my red FC was removed in summer, and sold in black FD. Since summer car was waiting for its time, which came with year 2020.

Over christmas i converted my mill to CNC and started working on new setup.

13B-REW, streetported + semi pport
13B-REW lower intake manifold modified (machined/welded/machined) with 2 butterflies for semi pports.
Vacuum/spring actuators, closed by vacuum, opened by spring. So far plan is to have them closed with secondary butterflies in the UIM.
New exhaust to be build, including exhaust manifold for my old GT35R. Racing beat 3" resonator, Racing beat 3" muffler.

Off-the-hook intake mods mate. Primary, secondary and tertiary throttles, wondrous. Hope those butterflies seal OK. Interesting flared perif intake port opening.
O-ring grooves are good. And that oil pump housing o-ring groove looks effective, but CNC? I think I'd prefer a metal gasket if sealing necessary.
One of a kind hIGGI.

hIGGI 03-20-20 03:36 PM

Its all experimental, lots of questions, no answers yet. I am sure there will be failures along the way, not the first ones and unlikely last :)
Buterflies sealing between LIM and semipports should hopefully not be critical, they seal fairly well from factory.
External leakage of air/mixture around the shafts might be different issue, as secondary fuel injectors are upstream.
O-ringed sealing should be better than gaskets, cheaper/easier to replace on teardowns. On oil pump too.
Will take couple more weeks to find all parts in the storage, make the ones i cant find and who knows what else.
I plan on make more parts or its modifications with cnc in house, its just matter of finding enought material :)

hIGGI 03-21-20 03:24 PM

Turbo placement seems to be solved, wastegate placement unsure yet. I was tempted to weld wg directly onto turbine housing, but ABS pump is in the way.

Cool build. What are you doing with the pneumatic cutout inline with the exhaust? I'm using one wyed into the exhaust and it works great. I'm using a vacuum-open, normally closed valve and have a checkvalve and solenoid hooked up so that it opens and stays open even when not in boost. This way you get the benefit of an open exhaust to improve spool. And you can have it idle loud if you wanna show off lol.

hIGGI 03-30-20 05:47 PM

I am using it to kill exhaust almost completely, vacuum close, normaly open. Just to quiet the car down.

Exhaust is about to be finished as of today, time to move to next things.
