s4 na to jdm s5 tII

hello, my name is mike and ive been building my rx7 for over a year now on a budget of zero dollars haha. Ive been interested in rx7s seince i was a kid but never had the knowlege or money to do anything about it. late 2010 i decided to go to nascar technical instatute in mooresville, NC ( its the same as uti but with nascar engines). when i got there, i found out that the school didnt teach about rotarys. okay now on to the car. i meet some cool people and they motivated me to get my dream car, so after a few months of looking through craigslist i found my 87 na with out a engine. i was gonna find a s4 tII origanally but a friend talked me into a s5 ( this was the first mistake). the second mistake came right after when i ordered my engine from jspecauto{dot}com. they claim to do a compression test before shipment so i figured it would be alright. 3 months after i ordered it a rep finally called me and told me they had my engine ready to ship and it had 80 to 90 psi on all CYLINDERS. well, i thought maybe he just didnt know what he was talking about and a real tech did the compression test. finally the engine comes in, i paid for lift gate but didnt get it. luckily i had good friends to help me haha. 3rd mistake, i didnt check the compression when i got it i just put it in the car and started buying other parts for it. okay im done typing for now i dont feel like downloading spell check so sorry for my stupidness. now im gonna try and post some pics, maybe haha.

ripped out all the s4 wires and got some s5 ones

at this point im still learning and buying cheap ebay parts

all seals stuck, fml. i tried ATF but no help as you can see

after hours of cleaning here is a before and after

paint, i couldnt decide so i ended up with a zebra

i found that if you get the base rebuild kit from rotary aviation and atkins corner seals and side seals it only costs about 830 bucks!

that is a ebay intercooler, its from godspeed, they have some stuff in the vender section. the fitment to my suprise is really good. it was very easy to install, the only problem i had was the compression tube/part on throttle body. the holes are not perfict and it took some effort to put it on. i like it though cause if it gets messed up i know i only spent $350 on it and not 1300.

well she finally starts up now, but wont idle on her own. i removed the BAC and all emissions and did the throttle body mod. ive been adjusting the idle screw with no luck and then it started reving on its own once i pushed it past 4k. any ideas at this point will help a ton!

I removed my BAC and after adjusting the idle screw it idles fine (after warming up of course). Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

I know on my old turbo Chrysler (I know I know lol) my boost gauge would only read boost, no vacuum. I think it was because I used a vacuum source that was before the tb(?) Not sure if that would be relevant to your situation...

Where is the gauge plugged though? A good spot is the top nipple in the front (behind the alt/water pump).

ill give that a try!

well i striped out some threads on my water pump housing while replacing the thermostat so i had to remove it and tap it. finally put some coolant in it and let it get warm, then i noticed a lot of smoke coming from the turbo and turned it off. it looks like its just coming off the hot side and it doesnt smell like gas, i think it maybe carbon build up but i dont know! i just ordered some injector grommets from mazdatrix maybe they will help my vacuum leak, plus they need to be replaced anyway im scared of fires haha.

this video, if you can view it, is the smoke coming off the turbo. i shot this about 5 minutes after turning the car off. i just dont know if i should worry about it or let it run and get it all out.
its a really shitty video

also im thinking about getting a magnaflow presilencer or something to put in place of the resonated midpipe on this corksport exhaust. i live in myrtle beach and the locals and police are used to all the motor cycles and bike weeks we have, also we dont have any inspections so im not worried about getting in trouble but i would like it to be toned down just a tad! i know i should have went racing beat. i see alot of cars that have no cats, and they are loud, but they dont got **** on rotarys! haha

Awesome build man! Same I did to mine...well minus the rebuild. Definitively makes me want to do a rebuild though. My Sunpro gauge doesn't read vacuum either Reads boost fine though. I thought it was just cause it was cheap but I guess not. Weird.

well, i took the uim off today and replaced the injector grommets. my old ones where hard as rocks! she started right up for me and idled at about 1400 rpm (cold) but it was solid and sounded good. ill ajust the idle and check the tps tomorrow. my vacuum gauge still doesnt read vacuum but i hooked up my brake booster and it works fine.

here is where my gauge is connected to the uim

now i need to figure out if i want to try and make this power steering work or just go for a manual rack
