My First Build Thread!
 

Hey everyone!! First and foremost thanks in advance for taking the time to read this, and I hope you will return and check on my progress from time to time. I'm planning on this being my first real build thread, i'll be asking for advice, tips, etc. To introduce myself, I am 21 years old. I live just south of the cities in MN. I have a passion for rotaries to say the least. Though I have had a couple bad experiences already. (TII motor blew a rear rotor apex seal, ordered a used motor from World Wide Racing in FL swapped it in and it turned out to have no compression :( ) I'll be doing a lot of the work you will see in this thread myself. Some of the rebuild/port I have planned will be with the help of a friend of mine who has more wisdom than I when it comes to rebuild rotorbrains. Can't wait to get this started. Pics of the car will be posted soon!!

Nice to see you back on, it's been a while. My TII is also parked due to low compression in the rear rotor. But I've been hanging out with a bunch of local rotary folk with a lot of experience. Let me know if you want to meet up sometime. Good luck with your build.

I grew up in South Mpls.... I stock most of the rebuild parts if you need anything..

To be completely honest, I'm saving up to have Turblown ^^^ do a full build for me. It's in the works, but it'll be a little bit yet.

@Turblown can you help out with a budget build?? I am doing a lot to be able to fund my project/build. Hoping everything will fall into place for me...I would like to be drifting this spring/summer/fall. This is Joe...Antonio I assume, yeah man i'm going to be doing the rebuild in my apartment so i'll be near by, hit me up to get a first hand look at the progress. TIIFC3S im sure we will hook up in the near future!

Now my flywheel is being a F*** head...been trying to get it off for a day now. still no dice. Im going to get a good block of wood and a heavy a** hammer. It would be completely taken apart if it wasn't for the stupid flywheel. E-shaft nut is off but i can't get the flywheel itself off. =(

Using a hammer on the flywheel will put little dents in your thrust washers/bearings. You need a puller...

Again everything you see in the recent pics has been accomplished within the last couple days!! Open to feedback!!!

Also just so we know what she has done engine wise thus far. Its a mild streetport, S6 rotors, S6 e-shaft, S4 housings and irons, RA Seals, all new seals and springs everywhere, all new oil control rings, o rings, etc. Keeping s5 stock turbo, oil metering, etc until i have a few more supporting mods later this season.

yeah for now. im going to get injectors, fuel pump, and an safc. then do them all at once, with a tune. but yeah until then stock, just to enjoy the car and work on looks for a bit too :)

I'd suggest getting at least 680cc GSL-SE secondaries with your setup. Right now in my car I have the stock S4 turbo running about 10psi with the 4 stock 550cc injectors (recently cleaned),an Aeromotive 340lph fuel pump, and SAFC-II. At 10psi, I can't boost above 5500rpm because my secondaries are maxed out! Even with my SAFC at max fuel correction, I lean out at 5500rpm.

For mine when I rebuild it, I'm going to get a Rtek 1.7 since I already have a SAFC. The Rtek 1.7 is preset for 550cc primaries and 720cc secondaries, but I'll run with 680cc GSL-SE primaries. I feel that with the SAFC and the Rtek I should be fine running my stock turbo with those injectors. You can run bigger injectors than the presets, just not smaller. When you run bigger injectors than the presets, you just need to turn down the fuel a bit with the SAFC at lower RPM's. You should get the Rtek 1.5 which is preset for 550cc primaries and secondaries, and just run the 680's as secondaries.

I got my SAFC-II for $175 from a buddy and my GSL-SE injectors for $40, though I still need to get them cleaned for another $40. The Rtek 1.5 is $140 installed. I know it's a few hundred bucks more. But you're going to run into fuel issues running a fresh streetported engine and S5 turbo. Unless you plan on getting a manual boost controller and setting it to stock 6.5psi, I know you'll lean out. It's still fun, but it's hard getting used to shifting at 5k rpm under boost. At the very least get the Rtek 1.5 so you have a better fuel map with the 4 550's. Ive heard with an SAFC II you can run up to 850cc injectors. I was planning on just getting an SAFC and some 720cc secondaries for now. Because I plan on full standalone in the future.

So more or less its just a less expensive upgrade for the time being, because i'm putting money into my suspension shortly after she is running.
