gregs RHD S4 Jspec swap/build

Hey guys wanted to share my build, for the begining I'm not lookng for any power adders in the engine compartment, I'm hoping to be able a smog the car being I live in CA and would like to experience what a stock Turbo 2 driving experience is like.

I have been on the hunt for 2nd rotary car project and the FC vert really caught my attention. I found a overheated Vert that was very clean (during the hunt it's pretty rare to find a clean and complete FC period) within 2 hours driving distance. So the project begins!

Hope you guys enjoy the build even if this is not a big power build & looking for some more experienced members that can chime in on recomendations and insight.

This build will not only cover the RHD swap but I have collected other parts for the exterior/interior.

There's quite a bit of research and questions I have especially while doing my brake line tuck (planning on hidding or cleaning up the brake lines in the engine bay. I'm hoping I can get some help from the rx7 community.

FC Vert picked up and ready for the ride home

While the car was parked I noticed it had the most Black Widow spiders I have ever seen in one place, no way I can work in that environment!
Had to do a Macgyver fumagation/fogout and take care of those spiders

thanks, They are Vios Sport, orginally red fabric but had them wrapped in Black leather to closely match the RX8 factory leather interior

Awesome build.

You want to sell the Logicon?

Thanks, planning on keeping the Logicon for now. I Tested the unit before disassembling the clip and all the functions seem to work fine.

Here's the first question: I want to run AN fittings on the new brake lines but have not been able to figure out what the thread is on the master cylinder and im assuming the thread will be the same with the brake porportioning valve. I originally was planning running the cheap auto parts store brake hard lines but I was told stainless steel lines are much easier to bend and flare so I may consider ordering SS.

gregs22 01-28-13 10:41 PM

searching through some threads I found the thread for the brake system is 10mm x 1.00, now it's time to shop for more parts

how much was your rhd front clip? do you know if they are available without motors just for a rhd conversion?

The clip was under $3k but I picked directly from JPR Import in the LA area, Im pretty sure they can sell you a RHD front clip minus the motor if you call and request that, apparently they ship over the entire car and take it apart at their facility

Your build is looking great how long did it take you to completely remove the dash took me about a week putting a few hours at a time since I easily git frustated the brake lines are tricky especially the rear one since it has an s-type bends along the end , flaring the lines gets pretty easy after a few times I practiced on my old lines to get the hang of it idk if you know but I learned the hard way you need to double flare your brake lines
I did most most of the conversion work myself on my rhd but if you do some research you can find lots of info hereon the subject

gregs22 02-03-13 05:33 PM

Thanks, I had a friend that has removed plenty of fc dashes helped me so it was very easy, took about 40 minutes. This weekend I had some time to remove the engine from the front clip. I'll post more pictures in a bit.

I had some time to yank the engine out of the front clip, being the front was wide open I really thought the engine would be easier to take out and boy was I wrong, the front clip body was so light we had a hard time keeping the body planted on the jack stands.

This barber shop base of a chair did a excellent job of keeping the front end from nose diving to the ground LOL

ECU *ABS will not be reused Looking at my ECU I noticed Rtek does not support the N340 ( I eventually wanted to modify the car) it appears I may be stuck on engine management options with the JDM harness and ECU.

Rtec isn't supporting the european ecu's, too but at least the 1.7 chip works with them. I would call them and ask if the chip could be working with your ecu, too.

By the way where is the difference between the USDM engine and the JDM engine besides LHD and RHD?

from what I have researched only missing EGR on the Jspec motor, I hear the Jspec transmission has a shorter gear ratio

Me too haha, this weekend if the weather permits I'll start cutting the jspec fire wall sections to set up on the convertible and figure out what I need to order for my brake lines
