FC2000 project

Hey all,

Well as things go, life events take place and things change. My father has had this car for about 17 years, and it ran for about 6 of them. Recently my dad had brain surgery and some complication arose, leaving him with a VERY long road of recovery ahead of him.

This car has been his dream for the longest time, and I have decided to take this car and finish it for him so when he is well again, he can enjoy it.

A little back ground first.....my dad and I bought a 1988 NA from an auction when I was 16......we fixed up and replaced the engine, and that was my car......my dada went and bought his 1987 TII and was planning on giving that to me. Turns out he thought it was too fast for a 16 yr old kid. He was probably right. So he drove that 87 TII for about 6-7 years before the seals gave up the ghost. Both cars are still sitting in my dads barn.....

The TII started project life back in 2002. I was away over seas in Afghanistan and Iraq in the Navy, and he started to strip the car and clean stuff out.

We emailed as often as possible bouncing ideas off each other on directions to take this car. We both agreed whole heartedly, the FC2000 front end is the only way to go. Next, he wanted a wide body.....originally he looked at the Mariah widebody kits.....I said no. He then mentioned Shine's wide fenders....that was more our style. So he bought those, Shine side skirts, and a Bomex rear bumper. So all the body panels were taken care of. Still haven't figured out what spoiler to do. I'm thinking RE-Amemyia Type IV spoiler.

No on to the ECU, engine, fuel and all the other great parts....TURBO. With a goal of about 450-500hp with 400hp being the daily tune, he went with a Garrett TO4Z. T4, 63 trim, A/R .70. Apexi Power FC with hand held unit, 850cc Primary injectors, 1650cc secondary injectors, Walbro 255 fuel pump, Aeromotive FPR, and a 13b-REW engine rebuilt by Banzai Racing, with a Street port. Racing Beat 3" dual exhaust, HKS 44mm Wastegate, Tial BOV, and a large FMIC.

FC2000 front end loosely fitted with Hella Lights. Look at that FMIC....fits perfect

Fenders on for fitting as well and RE-Amemiya hood replica

Quick shot of the engine bay. Harness still needs a little more cleaning up and stills needs a custom downpipe with wastegate plumbed back in.

Bomex rear bumper

Under the car has been cleaned up and re painted, rear diff and trans look brand new. As well as the half shafts.

Apexi PowerFC going in

Thinking of making a custom spot for the hand held unit in the center console

Thinkning about going to the the Megan racing coilovers and K Sport big brake kit....haven't made up my mind yet.
https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...da&oe=551223E6

Body work is going to be one of the last things....all molding around will be taken out and flush, as well as the gas lid will be flush with the body panel too. The car will be painted Mazdaspeed mica red, same color as the engine bay.
https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...88&oe=5500FC81

The interior is very clean still, the car only has about 90k. The only thing that will be done to the interior are the seats. keeping the stock seats, just having them reupholstered, gray ultra suede, with the Efini symbol embroidered in the head rest in a red stitch.

Like I said before, this is what my dad has gotten done for the most part. He is still in the hospital 3 weeks after his surgery, and I am starting to work on this car. It will be a slow process for me as money is short, but I will keep everyone posted as best as I can.

Looks good so far. Keep up the good work. **subscribed**

younG_Gunner 12-06-14 06:18 AM

Looks great! Speedy recovery for your dad. I was in the situation but my dad wasn't so lucky. Building my car now in his memory. Hasn't been the easiest of builds due to time, and money constraints but it will be done just as I believe yours will be finished as well.

Can't wait to see the finish product! FC2000 is the only way to go, and yet I've never seen one in person.

here is mine I also love the kit.

1FastFC 12-07-14 10:51 AM

Thanks guys!! Right now I have the stock seats off the upholstery shop getting done. Gray ultra suede with black leather bolsters with red top stitching and the Efini logo in the headrests. This is what my dad wanted.

Yeah time and money will be my achilles. Slow and steady though.
Looking at wheels for this and was thinking Forgestar F14f's

younG_Gunner 12-08-14 06:05 AM

What lights do you guys use? Are those HELLA projectors?

1FastFC 12-08-14 10:18 PM

Young gunner, yeah those are Hella lights.

younG_Gunner 12-10-14 05:46 AM

Wow. Did you have to get an adapter for those? I thought they were only an H9?

1FastFC 12-10-14 07:17 AM

Custom mounting bracket. I'm not sure it my father retired them to fit. I would have to look.

CWestFD3S 12-10-14 05:31 PM

I used PIAA 510 SMR series driving and fog lights for my kit. This thread may be helpful for those looking into options: https://www.rx7club.com/shineautopro...lights-727591/ To the OP, keep up the good work.

1FastFC 12-14-14 08:53 PM

No new updates yet. Getting the seats reupholstered right now. Will post pictures when they are done.

Another couple pics.
As far as the headlights I used DDM Tuning for the HID conversion. It comes with lifetime warrenty on ballasts and 2-years on bulbs.
Get the 55watt kit for under 50 bucks shipped. Plus they just launched the Ultra kit that runs 89 bucks and should put out 30% more lighting.

As far as the front markers I used the Maxxima side markers. you can find them on ebay.
The trick here is to take off the grommet and insert it from the inside of the bumper( you will have to trim a lil bit)
then insert you marker from the front.
Super bright and rugged as truckers use them.

1FastFC 12-27-14 10:41 AM

Mach.80, thanks for the kind words. What fenders are you running? Also what wheels specs are they? Looking at getting the stance nailed down.

mach.80 12-27-14 11:18 AM

The fenders are from Ronin Speedworks. They are the old Tripoint molds.
I purchased them through a mutual friend who had decided to go your direction with his flares. They are very wide and can house 335's out back and 305's up front.
I run a 295/30 on all four corners. Good handling balance and affordable in the Sumitomo HTR Z III. $600 for all 4 tires at tirerack.com.

The wheels are the XT-206R Cosmis Racing wheels. I purchased them through Import Image Racing. These are the 18X11's

While you're looking at the wheels, take a look at the XT-005r. They are dang nice as well.

Either way, wheels shipped to your door, less then 1100 bucks.
So, in total, wheels and tires $1870 shipped mounted and balanced.

Little secret is the Cosmis Racing wheels are made in the same factory as the Rays wheels. That's the rumor I heard anyway.

With your flares you should be able to get away with the 18X11's out back, and the 18X9.5's up front. I use adapters to set the stance right, you will probably need them
or extended studs and spacers too.

MaczPayne 12-27-14 03:57 PM

Mach, car is coming along nicely!!

What's it running under the hood?

mach.80 12-27-14 04:09 PM

Thanks,
13bREW extended street port, HKS manifold & Wastegate, Comp Turbo 6567, Mishimoto FMIC,
E85, 3.5" exhaust to dual 2.5" with Racing Beat Universal Mufflers...

...You know, the usual.

1FastFC 12-28-14 12:58 PM

What offset do you have on the wheels? I was thinking for me 18x11 +15et with a 305 out back.

Mach.80, who tuned your car for E85? I think that is the route I would like to go with this, runs a little cooler and get a little more power. What injectors are you using and what pump?

Got a couple pictures of the seats from the upholstery people......starting to come together.

https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...9f&oe=553F8D92

mach.80 12-28-14 01:28 PM

Offset in the rear is 18X11 +10. You may need to run a 5mm spacer. But my wheels did fit without adapters. But I used the adapters to get flush. You'll be right in the ballpark without them. The front are more tricky.
As far as e85 you get tons more power. Nobody speaks of the spool up on your turbo. Spool is 800 to 1000 rpms sooner and way safer. Cold operations suck though. Sometimes the car will not even warm up the entire drive home when it's in the 30°s.
In Houston, they never change to e70 so there's no change in the tune.
I will eventually go to an efi system that had flex fuel capabilities.

I tune my own car. It's a microtech, so it's simple but tedious.

Fuel system is sx engineering 130gph pump.
Way over kill but what came on the car.

Injectors are 850cc/1600cc. That's my limiting factor. Soon to upgrade to 1000/2150cc.

The seats look great. I like the extra pleating.

Stopped by to check out progress on the seats. More wire harness work has been done it cleaning up.

mach.80 12-29-14 10:51 PM

BeeUteeFull!
Can't beat the style of a fresh tII seat.
Very nice my friend. Love the embroidery.

1FastFC 12-30-14 09:15 PM

Thanks Mach.80.....this is what my dad wanted.

1FastFC 01-06-15 01:18 PM

Well, the seats are done.......Thinking my dad will be very happy with the end result. I still haven't told him that I've done this.

A little update on him since this is his car.......he has been doing rehab for about 2 weeks and we have been problem free and progress orientated. He feels like he is making headway and likes the way it feels to be independent again. Still having vision issues, but time will heal this. From going to almost dying on the OR table to where he is today, is nothing short of a miracle.

Well enough of me typing......let's see some SEATS!!!!

Great news! and the seats are lookin' good.

TII777 01-07-15 11:55 AM

This was not cheap at all.....it was just north of $2K. but like they say.....buy once, cry once.

Believe me I thought about getting some other seats, but honestly, I'm glad I didn't. They feel amazing and the comfort is just like stock. They built up the form bolsters and followed the stock fabric pattern as well. I am very happy with how they turned out.

The company that did them said they have been selling a lot of jobs based on these seats......probably the most stitch work they have every done.

TII777 01-08-15 09:44 AM

Yeah I was guessing it would be about that. Guy in my area wanted 700 just re upholster in black leather. I'd still have to buy the materials too so somewhere in the neighborhood of a G for a basic job. Really beautiful I'm sure your father is gunna love it.

Thanks, I can't wait to show him first hand!

Flash 01-11-15 03:11 PM

That's awesome. The whole thing I mean, especially that you're doing it for your dad! Big fan of your redone seats... sure it cost, but now you have one-of-a-kind seats... better than off the shelf Brides or Recaros any day.

1FastFC 01-12-15 11:03 AM

Thanks Flash. They are definitely one-of-a-kind.

1FastFC 01-29-15 03:18 PM

Quick update.....My dad is home and continuing rehab. Still a long ways to go, but we're getting there.

The car has been a little stagnant. Haven't had the time for it in about 3 weeks. Hopefully now that my dad's home, I can start working on it a little more.

He saw the seats and was amazed. Almost cried he was so blown away. Really was an awesome moment.

unek87 01-30-15 11:23 AM

Look forward to updates

1FastFC 03-03-15 09:39 AM

installed the seats in my dads car the other day. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to update the interior anymore and I don't think I will need to. It looks great, and new, but not so over the top that I have to do the door panels and carpets and headliner. The weather here in Michigan is slowing me down form getting any major work done.

coltboostin 06-29-15 12:43 PM

FC2000 front looks great!

If anyone is looking for one, I would consider parting with mine. Its to low for local driving on our shitty streets and is a real RE unit, so I don't want o ruin it.

1FastFC 12-27-15 04:12 PM

UPDATE!!!

We packaged up the car and brought it down to Chris (Banzai) to finish up and getting running and tuned. He thinks he will be able to start around the March time frame. After that is ono to body work.

REsuperOG 05-22-17 10:13 AM

B u m p !!!!!!!!!! =p

Restored Rotary 07-13-17 02:01 AM

I scored one of these kits a few years back for a few bills. Was glued onto the car and was really hard not to break the skirts and qtrs getting it off the parts car.

1FastFC 03-02-21 07:28 PM

Nothing like reviving an old thread.....sad news. My father passed away about 1 year ago. My brother an I have been picking away at the car in his memory. Trying to finish what he started. The car came back from Chris at Banzai running and ready for break in miles in early '18'. My dad's health continued to decline and in January of 2020, we made the hard decision to place him in hospice care. On January 20, he passed away. We couldn't bare to see the car go, so with a talk with my mother, we are finishing the car so she can drive it just one time. The body work has been done, it goes into paint this April. I'll try and post some pictures of the car as it sits now and of course when it's done.
