EPIC 1986 sport ground-up build/resto

Picking up a '86 sport from the second owner who bought the car in 1987 on sunday. The car is complete, totally stock, dover white, is a bit crusty, and has NO sunroof =].

the chassis alone is going to be an entire winter project. The entire chassis will be stripped, stitch welded, re-sealed, and possibly caged (buying a tig welder this summer and my friend just bought a really nice tube bender for doing race car chassis). I plan on working on the car at least an hour everyday until it is finished, it will be a complete nut and bolt resto along with the build.

ultimate plans for the car:
400whp
~1g skid pad
60-0 braking in 100ft or less
daily driver
sleeper-ish

I have a complete summer DD turbo car that is going to be the parts donor.

my goals for the engine are to have it make ~400whp while being as responsive as possible (s5 engine, lighter rotors, balanced s5 rotating assembly, cleaned up stock-ish ports, coated rotors, 13brew upper intake, v-mount intercooler setup, haltech sprint RE or adaptronic 420d, twin disk clutch, etc...)

For the turbo setup, i'm not sure yet (quite along way off lol) but i'm thinking to use the hybrid turbo i have now and stuff it with a 60-1 billet wheel along with a 360 thrust bearing running 20+psi with water/meth injection on pump gas (93oct)

i've already done alot of suspension and mechanical restorations to the turbo car i'm currently driving so once the chassis is completed the running gear should go on quickly. I also have a powder coating setup and will be doing all of the parts that fit in a house hold oven.

I would guess the car will not be "Finished" by next spring but it should be running and driving by then. I'll be doing this all in a two car garage and should be taking a lot of pictures.

wish me luck lol

awesome man hope it goes well!!

Let me know if you need any help with the Adaptronic! In my experience hybrids that can get you near 400rwhp, are awfully laggy. Better off with a proper full T4 setup.

awfully laggy? i'm taking about a "BNR" style hybrid turbo

Yeah the P trim 60-1 hybrids have a lot more lag than a full T4 setup. The last full T4 car I tuned made 22psi by 3400rpms...

what spec on the turbocharger?

I'm also thinking of using a BW s360, but some of my friends (non rotary ppl) are talking to me about some holset turbos (one of the guys is an engineer for cummins in indi) the HX40 compressor looks like it would get me to my goals but the problem is finding good information on the exhaust housing flow (most of them are tiny being that they are designed for weezy diesel engines).

all of this, of course, is a long ways away from any immediate reality. The chassis still needs to be built and other things remedied.

also, i've been trying to do some research about how to strengthen the engine to increase its longevity. seems to be alot of argument about how to stabilize the stack to prevent "flexing" under load.

also wondering if anyone knows what half bumper they used on the shop owners rx7 in the movie "speed master", its just the right amount of aggressive without looking juvenile like a body kit.
