Bob's Gutted/Caged 87 FC Build
4 Attachment(s)
I guess I will start a build thread even though this project may take quite a while...I paid $300 for this beauty with a bad coolant seal and a few years of neglect from the previous owner. It came with a full set of brand new tokico blues in the trunk along with a ton of misc parts. I have a cherry 87 TII with 83K Original for my daily....so I mays well follow my dream of having a racer.
My plan (with the help of this site) is to make this into a gutted/caged race car with the maximum in weight loss without having to buy unobtainium parts. But, I still want it to be "street legal". The car will be bare bones, i.e no radio, heater, door locks, window cranks etc. Just 2 seats, steering wheel, pedals, gauges, and functioning lights. In PA lexan is allowed for the side and rear windows, so that is in the mix. I am redoing my garage so the car is currently outside and will not see any drastic work for a few weeks. Here is the basic outline of what I am trying to do. <2300# with SCCA legal cage and full of fuel S5 turbo bridgeport somewhere around the 350hp mark...maybe more Gut stock wiring and install Painless setup for weight and simplicity Remove stock fuel cell and replace with composite/aluminum unit Remove all sound deadening material Remove excess weight from anywhere possible Design an SCCA legal cage (coming soon) Convert to 5 lug and run a full S5 TII driveline (motor, tranny, diff) I know I have a lot of work ahead...but I have built 2 cars from the ground up with my old man...so why not go for one on my own. Here is how the car sits now... Attachment 684947 Attachment 684948 Attachment 684949 Attachment 684950 |
Nice to see a car get saved from the scrapper, looking forward to seeing how this will turn out.
May i ask why you want a bridgeport turbo when your goal is 350hp? Seems like a big port for that kind of hp. |
Probably because he's going for that racer feel and bridgeport definitely says you mean business.lol
