1988 Turbo II find

Came across a fresh 1988 turbo 2 roller. 75k miles on the clean body, matching clean interior. No motor or tranny. Everything else is original and all there.

First things first, I'll be sourcing a motor and tranny to get the car up and running. Being its an s4 harness, I'm going to just throw another s4 and tranny into it.

Super Excited

welcome to the board. :)

that's a real beauty. i think you're quite lucky to have found such a clean shell (S5 taillights aside :)). i'm looking forward to see you put it back together.

Looks really nice, you rarely see them that original and clean. Also, do my eyes deceive me, or are those the OEM mudflaps? Rare find.

What's up with the wheel well though? Is that a reflection or is there a small overfender on there?

Being the inpatient person I am, I started looking to jdm motor and trannys. Outside from the harness is there much that need to be done? Or are they not worth the time of waiting? Interested on everyone's opinion.

I'd stay away from imported rotary engines at this point. There's been so many reports of destroyed engines that are basically unusable on arrival. That said, if you found a good deal on the engine with all associated components, you could buy new internals and have it rebuilt. Another option is to swap in an REW from the FD. You can still by brand new core blocks from Mazda for around 4-5k. You will still need to source turbo components, AC, power steering, etc. (if you want it). There have been quite a few people who've swapped in FD motors recently, since the engines are available.

Other than that, great find!

That's a killer find!! Do you know any of the car's history? How long has the car sat? Will be great tonsee the car up and running again! It appears to be in excellent condition given the age! 75k original miles is also a huge plus!

The car was owned by a older gentleman. Classic SCCA racing guy who absolutely knew the ins and outs of racing. I enjoyed the 2 hours of conversation we had while looking over the car. It had always been kept 100% stock. The car had eventually blown the motor and transmission back in 2009. He had a full ls7 swap ready to go, but the car was about p4 or p5 on his pole of cars to work on. He also had a cherry FD he was not ready to sell me lol. (How are prices so high!!!!)

But overall the vehicle is in amazing condition. I'd say 8/10 outside and 9/10 inside (only the leather seats need some help).

sourcing a good motor core and transmission have been a bigger challenge than expected lol still leaning towards jdm swapping it. Does anyone have experience with
1. JDM of California
Or
2. JDM California Motors

I found them to have motors but I already know they are low compression -_-
