1988 10AE Convertible Build
I am putting together a 10AE Convertible for Dave Meditz (rotarydude) here at RX-Pectations, so I figured I would do a build thread.
The donor car is of course a 1988 10AE Turbo II The recipient car is a 1988 Convertible, white with black interior. (the most ideal recipient!) All 10AE specific items are going to the Convertible including the following:
I am building this as I would think that Mazda would have had they produced a vert version of the 10AE. So with that in mind, the following stock vert items will be revised:
Aftermarket items going on the car are: Racing Beat Rev II complete exhaust Racing Beat Front and Rear Sway Bars Racing Beat FCD KYB AGX Shocks Pictures coming soon........ |
Wow! Can't wait to see the results.
|
Nice get some pics up, this should actually turn out nice if its done correctly. Quite possibly 1of1 kind of swap that i have heard of anyways.
|
Can't wait to see this... Sounds like it will be a monster... Pics.. Pics... Pics...

Here is the donor 10AE after I started stripping. I had a pic of it sitting out in the FC yard still complete, but I cannot find it.
https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1359047530 Here is the Vert it is going in. Already have the front bumper and a few of the moulding peices on it. https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1359047530 |
I will be installing all the Turbo parts and 10AE parts and getting it running, then Dave will take it over and tear everything down and do a repaint and restoration of all the peices.

absolutely awesome! Im subscribing to this thread for sure, I have also been wanting to do this to match my 10AE. maybe one day!
What is the 10AE aluminum diffuser you speak of? |
Awesome!!!
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...95271874_n.jpg Said diffuser. If you're doing that exhaust, I'd DEFINITELY port that waste gate, And be sure to not paint the vertical ribs of the tail lights, to keep it "true to mazda". But you guys I'm SURE already know this :) Keep the pictures coming!!! |
Yep, thats the one.
|
custom white convertible top sounds interesting.
|
Where does that diffuser go? I never knew about this diffuser being unique to the 10AE, weird.
|
The aluminum one goes under the engine and bolts onto the subframe. It is in addition to the regular plastic one.
|
I want to see how the diffuser bolts on w/ the vert subframe add-on

Come to think of it, I remember removing that years ago when I put my built motor, I pulled it off and never put it back on. I thought my other fcs had it as well but I bet I mistook it for the plastic one. Great work so far! |
excellent work so far would love to see this completed.
|
Been working on getting the engine to fire, it finally did. Starting on interior and will have some updated pics soon.
|
Wow!! Now that's a build! I like how you made a new and improved version of Mazda should have made, produced and sold in the states. Awesome job!
