Stevo's 1985 GSLSE Turbo Build

Hello all!

So some background on the car, my front apex seals blew in April 2018, i started getting the ball rolling on the rebuild over summer and things are finally coming together! I figured it would be great to share with everyone what i am doing, and document everything so if anyone else wants to build a first gen it would help them as well. I still don't have a name for the project yet but ill think of one eventually. I also wanted to say thank you to Adam, Howard, and Steve for providing me with exceptional service. I had quite a few issues with this build and i received a lot of help from them.

I bought a used Tii transmission that was suppose to be in good condition off of Facebook. During the tear down, it was discovered that i needed a new counter shaft, input shaft, and output shaft, as well as second gear. I was left with the option of buying another used Tii transmission, going with a t56, or rebuilding the broken one i bought. I decided to rebuild my broken one with NOS parts and Liberty Gear modded internals. The transmission was just finished, i will be picking that up from PRT hopefully next week or the week after.

The motor work was performed by Adam and his crew over at rotaryengine.com, and the parts were sent to Howard Coleman for the final engine build. Progress so far is that i need to remove the blown motor and send out a few more parts before everything can be built.

I hope you enjoy the pics!

Looks like you have an awesome build going. Quality work.

are you rebuilding a gslse engine or a turbo ii

Thanks!

Its a bit of an unorthodox build. I went against the advice of many people. I know the 4 port irons are a tried and proven design, but I like to experiment and try new things.
The motor has fd rotor housings, fd rotors, rx7 e-shaft, and s4 6 port irons. Intake will be a 4 barrel throttle body with staged primaries and secondaries. The goal is to preserve the low end torque driving around town by only opening the primary throttle bodies at part throttle.

The car the motor is going in is actually the same as yours lol. 1984 GSL-SE in Tender Metallic Blue.

I just put a 6 port engine together just like this. From the looks of your porting in the picture; mine should be fairly similar to yours. I don't like how late the 5 & 6 ports stay open, but its not too much different from my old 4 port engine. I'll let you know how it works after the break in.

I'm just using the stock S4 turbo though; so results may vary.

Lol, The turbo for mine will be going in way later. It cost so much money :burn:

the build will be N/A at first. As for the port timing, i had my primary ports done more conservatively and had my secondary/auxiliary ports opened up a lot more. I attached some photos for your reference
So i bought these s4 irons used and the guy before me went almost little bit too far with the porting in a few places.

Let me know how your build goes!
Also just PMed you about a turbo

My primaries look about the same as yours, but I didn't do much on the secondary side. I did connect the 5th and 6th ports to the secondaries.

My porting was just to try to mimic my old 4 port engines' port job. The 5th and 6th ports stay open so late in comparison to my old engine.
