I bought a shell of what was once a ls1 car. even though I have all the gear to swap a 302 in, I have decided to go back to rotary with this one. This build is going to be SLOW. I have 2 kids with 3rd on the way so time in the garage is minor.

The status of it the day I went to pick it up:

Once I got home I quickly stripped down the 12a that came with it and dropped it in(sorry for the crappy pic).

Thats when life sped up and I slowed down. Luckily I found a side draft Webber dcoe 42 for cheap. It was cheap for a reason. Once I got it I noticed something odd. The top cover had 2 rods drove through it and epoxied in place. It looks like someone was trying to prevent the floats from ever reaching the top. So instead of jost popping it on like expected I am cleaning it up and doing some minor repairs.

Because of this my next few updates will be cleaning and rebuilding this weber. This morning I removed the rods and all the goop around it. It is currently sitting in a chem dip.

I think this as clan as its going to get using the chem dip. The rest will be manual.

The tubes were meant for oil metering, but the way they were done leaves plenty to be desired.

Really? Never would have thought of it.

Glad to see you're going back to a rotary!! What color was the car originally?

The car it self looks to have been Tender Blue Metallic at some point. Once I sort out all the running gear, I plan to point it one of 2 colors. Either a generic black gloss, or a ford gray.

Tonight I got the radiator and hte nose mounted up(although the alignment could use some love). I also test fit the weber now that I got the parts I needed. Well kinda. The gasket I ordered was slightly off on the screw holes.

Mmmh short runners, only good for high rpm.

peejay 02-11-17 07:02 AM

I take it you've never driven one!

That is a good manifold for midrange power. Feels just like stock, actually.

Runner length makes little difference at these levels, believe it or not.

i put one on expecting the same thing, all top end, and was surprised that it had a ton of low and midrange instead. it makes a good noise too.

lol, one of the best opening lines ever, or most realistic.

I just call it like it is. Usually when I am out here the kids are asleep right above the garage. This limits my ability to weld/grind/use the compressor. My 3 year old has started to want to help me in the garage, so I should be getting more time in on the car during the day.

I bought it because it was cheap. I got the carb and manifold for the cost of just the manifold new. No other thoughts or goals went into the selection of this manifold lol

I got tired of trying to source a good linkage and throttle cable that I broke down and ordered this from the UK. Seemed like the easiest one I could find at an affordable price.

Got the linkage installed today. It was not plug and play, but it works. Had to drill out the throttle lever(not sure of hte real name) and do a little grinding on the The linkage for a little clearance issue. I am only running one side of the dual linkage to the stock petal mounting point. I am going to find a spare petal to cut up for running the dual cable.

Well the 42 DCOE turned out to be a little too rough for my liking, so I pulled it off and bought a new 45 DCOE.

IO_303 03-17-17 08:25 AM

I hate waiting for parts.

Parts from Czech Republic, mmmh must be interesting :)

IO_303 03-17-17 02:09 PM

Not really, just a knock off weber.

IO_303 03-17-17 04:53 PM

It looks like it got home sooner than expected. Came home to this on my front porch.
