I dont know how many times or yrs ive looked at this forum for answers or browsed but i figure its my time to finally get on here and what better time to do it on my first swap !

I got 84 gslse putting a Series 5 Mazda 13B Rotary Racing Engine. w/ Racing Beat Exhaust Manifold and down pipe for Garret T3/T4 Turbo,Redline crank pulley ,30mm HKS Wastegate ,3rd Gen rotor housing ,GSL-SE Front Housing ,GSL-SE Oil Pan ,Braided Hoses ,Double Alternator Pulley ,Throttle Position Sensor ,Ford Alternator ,Custom Coil Bracket ,2 MSD Blaster Coils ,2 MSD 6A Timing Controllers ,Upgraded Injectors ,Secondary Throttle disabled ,3rd Gen, Series 6 rotor.

Parts im still tryin to get or bought by now

well turns out the racing beat turbo manifold is to big to use w/ the hks 30 mm wastegate if anyone wants it make offers.

otherwise up date on the swap. finally got the engine and tranny in today along with the ecu and wiring harness. and the relays . Still tryin to figure out where to mount the coil packs as well

ended up cutting the top off mounting bracket off the stock gslse tranny where the the two bolts go through the cross memeber and cut off the long bolt off the TII Y bracket tranny and welded the mounting bolts to the Y bracket . and Bolted it on the tranny and then bolted the crossmember up and its good ! wish i took pics but lil day light had no time but will try post pics off it if can later tomrrow

now i gotta try to find the left side wiring harness to wire up the relays and other switchs i gotta splice and check valve for brake booster

Directfreak 05-13-12 08:51 AM

The RTEK is for use with stock ECU, and stock ignition. If you end up using a distributor, it won't help your timing at all.

Also, you don't need to add a check valve to the brake booster. Either it has one built in,
or it's not needed. (I didn't add one)

Small world. I saw your car for the first time ever yesterday, while browsing
cardomain.

You car really does resemble the widebody SA22C from Japan. Good work!

heres what i was talking about when tryin to make my mounting bracket for the trans. since i cant get a a good pic ill just show ya the one i cut and off the old one w/ a spare reg mount and spare Y bracket

i just cut the bolt off the Y bracket and welded that part i got off ( which u see thats whats on the trans on the pic) and welded it to the Y ;) n fits perfect

turns out i didnt have to cut that much off in the shifter boot area like we thought we had to

for your steering wheel ? i used a momo hub adaptor and NRG Quick release i believe .. w/ a momo steering wheel . very easy to do just look up on you tube . i Have not had any problems w/ it over the 3 yrs using it

tacoboy1503 05-16-12 06:30 AM

btw on the QR i would buy the slim one and not the fat one i bought.. so u can still reach your turn signals and wipers lol its a bit of a reach now but i dont mind the extra leg room i have now

I am doing the same swap to my 1985 GSL-SE, for the tranny mount I used the rubber blocks on the TII tranny mount and bolted them directly to the transmission, on the GSL-SE mount you just have to drill one hole and that's it. It took me 2 minutes to make the mount. :icon_tup:

realized its been long time since i been on here but the reason why is cause i got it running but compression is bad on front rotor so i gotta tear her back out and rebuild it ... which as burnt out i am w/ all the work and overtime i been doin . im taking it to the rotary doctor in joplin MO to rebuild it and ill put back in and try it again ill see if im able to post a vid on it running w/ the bad rotor to show ya all

tacoboy1503 09-04-12 12:24 AM

heres the link of it running a lil rough w/ the front rotor on low compression

well since of course its tax season.. everyone has moneys for parts and so on.. so that means im back in on the build

i finally torn down the engine and found out i need new housings and the side seal on front rotor was crack and came off in broke pieces
Attachment 489928

but as i was looking for housings i ran into a complete s4 turbo motor im gonna try out .. stock
Attachment 489929Attachment 489930
if dont like it. ill tear it apart and part out the rest the motor and use the housings and port them out and use my ported irons on her

GySgtFrank 02-14-13 08:39 AM

Really hope this one is good Josh. I'd use the stock engine if compression is good, at least all the parts match. :)

Attachment 490196

So far got her to run for about 5 seconds due to vaccum leak on intake.. so I guess my home made cork gaskets ain't working since I forgot to order those last two gaskets i needed n Remembered at last min ... So gonna try again next week :/ but she runs and engine is good ! Best $500 spent so far

And my lamp for the night.

Looks awesome! I'll be ordering a few necessary gaskets from Atkins before I do the swap so I can take the external parts off the motor and paint it. I'll keep checking your thread here, looks like it will be a blast
