Looks like an amazing car to restore! Do you know any of the car's history?

roondawg Dec 27, 2020 09:04 AM

The previous owner says it sat for a long time before he got it from a friend. The title was an Alabama title from 1987. He cleaned the fuel system, cleaned and coated the fuel tank and got it running a year ago but couldn't get it to start again. I think he flooded it and had no clue what to do. The engine freely turns and you can hear the compression. I hope to get it running this week. Gonna add some atf..new plugs and check everything. I've done alot of cleaning so far and getting a list together of stuff I will need.

Added some coolant before start attempt and old hoses leaked everywhere. Going to replace them all and vacuum lines now that i had to rip it all apart. Wanted to get it running before restoring it all.

What an old mess.

Good idea on replacing the vacuum lines while ots apart. The emissions system on an SE is pretty simple luckily and does a great job with idle control. I think the car will run great once you're done. I would verify that the injectors are not stuck or sticking before you put it back together.

roondawg Dec 28, 2020 03:46 PM

I am researching what to delete from the emission system. I prefer this being simplified as much as possible. PO said he just did the injectors, but yea should check them.

I ordered all the coolant hoses from Ray Crowe. Glad we have him.

mazdaverx713b Dec 29, 2020 05:43 AM

I would recommend not deleting anything. Most of what's there is for idle control and for deceleration control. Its a fairly straightforward and simple system as it is. I fear you will only gain headaches and poor running if you start removing things.

The air pump was shot so I removed that and acv. I have a full header back rb exhaust so no need for airpump anyway. I can see keeping the rest and replacing all the hoses.

Sending the injectors out for cleaning. Definitely clogged and in need of some attention. Changed out some vacuum lines and fuel hoses. Should have all my hoses this week.

Stupid plugs are shot. Shouldnt be a bad fix.

One thing I see is that the injectors are not the correct color. They should be yellow top injectors. Are they aftermarket or were they swapped for a different set?

You'll definitely want to proceed with replacing the connectors for the injectors. Those can luckily be sourced fairly easily.

roondawg Jan 2, 2021 06:27 PM

Not sure on the story for the injectors. The guy mentioned he was in there messing with them at one point. I sent them to witchhunter for cleaning. I noticed there were some aftermarket with a green top, but didn't know yellow was oem. Got the new connectors today so I can repair the wiring issues.

mazdaverx713b Jan 3, 2021 07:33 AM

If witchhunter is able to provide any info on the injectors, I would ask. There should be a number on the injector that can be referenced for identification. I can tell you that they should be yellow top 680cc Denso injectors. Just hate to see you put all the time into this only to have the car not run properly due to incorrect injectors. It would have you chasing your tail for some time no doubt.

The 12a turbo had green 800cc injectors. I have a set that have been misplaced years ago... LOL

roondawg Jan 6, 2021 08:28 PM

Well these will be cleaned up and fresh when they come back if you want them back. Lol 😆

More green top injectors. Ordered on ebay, yellow top in the pic so not sure whats up. My old green tops will be back this week so gotta figure it out.

roondawg Feb 6, 2021 10:34 PM

Coming back together. Couple issues with broken wires and 1 last vacuum line I need to figure out. I hope to fire it up in the next few days.
