Alex's 1985 GSLSE Build
I hope to post my updates to this car I bought in Feb of 2022. Ive spent a year upgrading and fixing it up. I plan on using it as a weekend mountain run car. Maybe some auto x or light track use.
I need to figure what tire I’m going to run, the RT660 or the Conti Sport then I can get it aligned. Rt660 is a bit fat so I’m worried about rubbing on compression. Contis are the safer bet but just aren’t as cool imo. I like https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...1/16/1f356.png. Suspension T3 lower brackets T3 trailing arms T3 roll control adjusters (+2 camber) BC coilovers with swift front springs. -Ride height is 23” fender to ground (about 1 inch tire to fender gap) Oem rubber watts links Atkins rotary watts reinforcement bracket. Energy suspension bushings up front Energy suspension bump stops rear, shorter than oem. Wheels/Tires/steering wheel Falken RT660 205/50/15 Fenders rolled to fit those RT660s Rota Grid V 15x7 +20 Momo Monte Carlo (yes the horn works!!!) Brakes Stripped and repainted black. (Red before) Rebuilt front calipers with new seals and pistons Rotor, pads, bearings (some bs street pad) (rear rotors found on eBay) Cooling Had to make some oil cooler bushings Champion 2 row radiator Custom radiator fan shroud Spal flaps Mishi moto slim 16” fan. Davies Craig thermostat and relay control Rebuilt OMP Pump Next mods: Full exhaust Roll Bar New seats …but first I’m gonna drive it for a while!!! Bought car in Feb and had it torn apart by early March… Follow me on @worthygarage (instagram) for more documentation via Stories. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...9ec94fce86.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...739172ab60.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...8aeb09ac10.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...a2f11ff46b.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...fc43eb6167.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...45aa66f70a.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...79c25b82c3.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...da3389d57a.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...13bfc935df.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...bc340e9fae.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...572f7709a0.jpg |

more on those Oil Cooler Mounts
1985 GSL SE Oil Cooler Mounts
It’s always something…Can’t get ahead cause I keep finding things. Replaced both oil cooler mounts since one had fallen apart. 8x m6 locking nuts 8x m6 washers 4x m6 x12mm bolts 4x Phillips m6 x12 bolts 4x vibration damping sandwich mounts https://www.mcmaster.com/4403K59/ 1x ANGLE SLD ALUM 48X1 1/4X1/16 (Home Depot) Aluminum: cut to 50mm, 4 pieces Hole centers are 25mm. You’ll need to work the holes a bit, location wise to get it all to line up right. That was the hardest part. I initially was making these another way but found this method on the forums, so credit is due there! https://www.rx7club.com/.../gsl-se-replacement-oil.../ https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...984a5c8b0d.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...5ed1d10056.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...a0ceaf1449.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...8f0184b027.jpg |
Love the build!! Super clean and well done. I have the same fitment of wheels and tires on my FB (GS) and was puzzled as to why yours looks so much more aggressive then I remember the -SE has different factory offsets, I think!
Just followed you on Insta. I have the Red FB. How has your cooling system been performing? I have not yet gon to an E-fan setup and am just running a OEM style 3 row rad with the stock thermofan. Here is my build can see some similarity haha. Edit, thinking further, you are missing the Kieth Gold Short Shifter aka GRacing It will go well with your build, it feels like driving a different car to me. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...feaf8371da.jpg |
Love the build. I just got a C's short shifter from mtheory! It really did transform the car. Love it.

Cooling system has been doing well. The efan quickly takes temps down when it turns on. I think this has a lot to do with the shroud I built for it.
Since I took off the power steering I can now remove the p/s a/c pulley off the main pulley. THus I can now run a 3 core and larger efan if needed. Removing that pulley gives at least 2 inches of extra clearance. |
Nice work. Good execution on the oil cooler mounts with those isolators.
Moved this to the Builds section. |
