This is the new project. Its body is clean and interior still intact, but the rotor storage compartment needs a little love. Ive been out of the game for almost 4 years and cant wait to get this thing running.

At this point Im tearing into the engine bay with a large pair of bolt cutters. The rat habitat is gone and most everything else is too. Once I get the engine clean I will work on the wiring harness and sort it out.

going at the engine bay with bolt cutters? what are you, an animal? there's a right way and a wrong way to do things.. if you want to bring the car back correctly, do things the right way..

LOL.. there are an abundance of emissions parts attached to a stock motor. Bolt cutters help ease the removal process. I assure you this is no hack job.

This is the first update of hopefully many. The engine bay has been thoroughly cleaned and is now ready for rebuild. Next step is to clean up the wiring harness and setup a direct fire system. I have a msd 6a box on the way.

Looks awesome so far! I wish I had the ballz to go at it with bolt cutters....I love the clean/simple look. I'm curious about the paint you used in the bay, it as just the right sheen to it. Easy to keep clean??

Paint is just Rustoleum flat black. Even covered in dust at this point it still looks better than a clean stock engine bay, imo.

I installed an FC oil cooler this weekend. I was able to refill the oil and do a test fire.

There is nothing like the sound of a rotary coming back to life.

you're making some good progress on your 7!

What carb setup is that?

79rx_7 Jun 7, 2013 12:08 AM

Its an IDA manifold from Mazdatrix. Carb is an IDF with runners to adapt IDF to IDA.

First drive tonight after a long day of work on the car. Well worth it.

There are still a few kinks to work out but over all shes ready to roll.

Cookboy Jun 10, 2013 07:20 AM

Yes, driving does make it all worthwhile. Good for you!

diabolical1 Jun 10, 2013 11:20 PM

sweet frickin' setup.

It is 95%. Driving it has been a blast, but the 48 IDF is just too big for a stock port 12a. I will be swaping to a 44 soon.

You're feeding the two coils with the one MSD?
