Hey guys. So I guess this is a good time to start my my build thread. I got my 83 in the spring of 2013 shortly after my 19th birthday. When I bought the car (for dirt cheap I might add) it had been sitting for close to 10 years, Within a couple of days we managed to get the 12a started (more info on my very 1st thread). Anywhoo I drove it for the summer and in the winter, here in good ol canada I stipped it down bare. Any dumby can tear a car apart the real challenge is trying to put it back together lol. So seeing as its warming up Its the perfect time to start my build. Thanks for the read, Ill keep you guys posted.

Here are some pics of the car as it sits now.

Im planning a single. Im going to be using the FB front cover. The FB parts car I am buying has an REW keg in it already so most of the mounting is done. Sorry Im new here lol. More details will come as I start the funn stuff :) which will be shorty.

Once its all together I'll probably make a new thread with a complete write up, for now im going to be treating in this as a "log" so to speak.

So Yesterday I finished up cleaning most of the oil sprayed, undercoated mess that is my heatsheilding. I used the @aaroncake method by using some kerosene to help cut through all the gunk and wiped it off with paper towel. Afterwards I washed it thoroughly with sunlight soap and water to remove all the kerosene. Before I install it on the vehicle I will probably rewash everything to make sure there is no flammable residue left over I might have missed. It turned out really nicely.

So today I picked up the parts car of all parts cars (courtesy of @simgabe)! I was originally only interested in the engine, trans, and coilovers, but for the amount I was going to pay he hooked me up with everything including the chassis and I got a bunch of extra goodies to go along with it. This car is saving me a ton of time and money. Alot of the stuff is very rare so I cant thank him enough for helping me out.

Heres a list of all the parts I will be swapping:
-REspeed front coilovers and adjustable rear perches
-Tociko adjustable shocks front and rear
-REspeed camber plates
-REspeed front and rear swaybars
-Roll centre blocks
-Various upgraded polyurethane bushings (all suspension related)
-Mosier Chromoly rear axles
-13B REW mild streetport keg
-TII Transmission
-Custom driveshaft
-Autometer gauges (boost, coolant, oil, tach, ect.)
-3" stainless steel exhaust (downpipe back)
-alot of smaller stuff aswell

Here is a pic of the car as it sits now. Im going to start stripping it in the morning. If you see anything you are interested in (apart from what is listed above) PM me. Thanks :)

Nice parts car find. Is there a reason you don't build up the parts car and part out the project car? Looks like most the work is already done to the parts car

I've thought about it but my project cars chassis is as rust free as it gets (haven't broke a bolt). The thing structurally is gorgeous. The parts car sadly, has some rust goin on underneath. And also it wouldn't be much of a "build" if I did so lol

So the mock-up has begun :) I've been pretty busy with the car getting it ready for mock up and assembly before tearing it apart again for paint.
Here js what Ive been up to;

I cleaned up, rust treated and painted the rear diff, including the calipers, backing plates and serviced the brakes. Then Installed it along with all the corresponding suspension components (REspeed coil kit, tokico shocks ect.)

Attachment 533672

I cleaned up and painted the front subframe, and TC rods.

Attachment 533674

Attachment 533673

Painted the front cover and Engine mounting bracket.

Attachment 533675

The TII trans pan was leaking abit so I cleaned and resealed it.

Attachment 533676

Then I reassembled and Installed the front subframe along with all the corresponding suspension components (REspeed front coil kit, front sway bar, roll center blocks, TC rods ect.)

Then I installed the engine and trans :) and couldn't be happier :) Ignore the blue fenders Im planning on painting the car Gloss back when Finished.

Its been a while but Ive managed to rebuild the engine (with help from @JDK), purchased and ported out my intake manifold(s) as well as deleted the double throttle and all the other crap found on them.

So its been awhile but I've been somewhat productive. I managed to get my hands on a beautifully crafted Surge tank that sits into my Fuel Tank. I wasn't a fan of having a surge tank in my passenger area so this was awesome, and will hold up to all the power and my demands.
Ive had the engine on the stand just slowly accumulating parts to finish the engine off.
Purchased second hand an XSESSIVE L.I.M. and CJMOTORSPORTS 4-port fuel rail to go along with it. GREDDY turbo manifold with 54mm wastegate. REW waterpump and housing.
Also had the pleasure of pulling apart and inspecting my starter and alternator (painted the ALT) while Im in tradeschool. Then testing them with the "Frankenstein machine" lol. Both checked out wonderfully!

This is awesome. I'm gathering parts to REW swap my rx8 at the moment, doing the same exact thing pretty much. How was porting the intake manifold?

DreamInRotary 04-08-15 12:08 AM

Awesome build man, no doubt about it!

Thanks man! :) REW rx8 sounds awesome!
The porting of the intake wasn't bad at all actually, just make sure you don't strip the screws on the double throttle butterfly plates, I did on 1 pr two and it was fun lol. Either heat em up or with the screwdriver on the head give it a nice tap to crack it free. :)
Thanks for the read!

So its been while but about a month ago I installed the engine, trans, driveshaft and heatshielding back into the car for mock up and was totally impressed that I had no clearance issues :)
Only issue I might have is with the down pipe clearing the wastegate, as it looks like theres not a whole lot of room between it and the firewall. I plan on going with a more compact wastegate to solve this as the greddy one is quite long.
I also had to helicoil where the trans cross-member bolts to the trans as the threading was not the in the best of shape.

I also purchased my standalone setup. A brand new PS1000 and IQ3 display dash. I didnt plan on getting the dash but since I was getting such a good deal on it, I thought I might as well. The dash will take care of everything I need it too and then some. For my wheel speed reading I will be using the racepak v-net GPS module.
Thanks for the read guys!
