To be honest after talking to them I don’t feel like the hassle and the time it would take to get an inch less backspace. I’m just going to add a bit to the fenders and be done with it. Like I said I have body work to finish anyway. When I get the fronts I’ll make the fenders fit. I do love the wheels and I do love the ridiculously wide lip on the rears.

next thing

So I've been driving the car a bit. It's loud, stiff, obnoxious and I love it. I drove it to work last week. Probably the most nervous I've ever been on that trip. It's about 60 miles round trip. Not a single issue.

I have found one thing to hate however and that's the electric fuel pump. It drives me insane. When you're idling it's so stinking loud you can hear it over the exhaust. So I decided to go with an in-tank setup that will also work when I go to fuel injection which will be soon more than likely. The only thing I'll have to do is swap the regulator for one that has higher pressure. For now this one puts out a max of 9 psi for my carb. It's return style system.

I decided to go with the Hyperfuel setup and it looks very straightforward. I have to pull the tank and put a hole big enough to fit the pump and sock through. I started on the install this weekend and got the regulator mounted but a kitchen emergency stopped progress. I'll post more when I get back into it.

Nice progress, interested to see how the install goes, I just modified the stock pick up to use a walbro 255 pump and haven't had too many issues, but this looks like a better solution.

I thought about just adding a Walbro or similar and chuck the outdated pump I have but I figured for the price that the extra work of making a hole and mounting it in the tank would be worth it. Should be quiet and last a long time. We'll see. Now that the kitchen emergency is over I'm hoping to have it installed this weekend.

I'm planning on driving it to Columbus OH. the weekend after the 4th of July for the GoodGuys car show at the fairgrounds. That will be a 2 1/2 hour drive for me. It does well on the freeway except for gas mileage.

fuel

no turning back now
Ok, that was pretty easy. drill a 2 1/8 inch hole, measure the depth, cut the tubes at the appropriate length and assemble. I'm going to respray the tank tonight then tomorrow the tank goes back in the car. I have to run the new fuel lines. I'm taking it to the GoodGuys show in Columbus next weekend which is about 2 hours north of me so that should be a fun trip.

all assembled and ready to drop in the tank

that was pretty easy.

i don’t think so. They are high quality chemical resistant. It came with zip ties but they looked sketchy to me.

tank

Tank is done and painted. Going in tonight then I can plumb the fuel lines and hook up power to the pump. Hopefully I can give it a shakedown cruise tomorrow.

painted and ready to go back in the car.

Thanks! I worked on getting the injection installed and reworking the air dam so the wheels clear. Still have a few wires to install.

Efi

Hooked everything up last night and it fired right up! The install is very straightforward. The only thing I'm going to have to change is the wiring. They have a lot of extra length on some of the plugs and it's about impossible to hide. I didn't want to cut up a new harness but eventually that's what I'm going to have to do to clean it up. the ECU is capable of managing the timing as well so after I drive it awhile I'm going to hook that up and tuck the wires out of the way. The EFI itself on the engine is pretty clean looking and with the air cleaner on it you can't even tell it's EFI.

So I got the air dam wheel wells modified so the wheels wouldn't rub. Plenty of room now. Time to drive!

Granny's strikes again

So my expensive Granny's Speed Shop axle is now pouring gear oil out of the passenger side axle. Not even sure how that's possible. Has to be the seal I guess. I checked the welds and it doesn't seem to be that. I guess I'll have to pull the axle and worst case I'll have to split the bearing and collar, put a new seal on it and press it all back into place. it has 820 miles on it. I also had to replace the driveshaft seal on my new Tremec trans. replaced that with a new seal and at least that leak stopped. Maybe someday I can be done fixing brand new expensive stuff and actually drive my car!

ok rant over, I feel better.

Leaks

thanks for compliments guys. I fixed the leaky axle. I had to put an inner seal in the 9 inch style bearing end. It seals the axle up before it gets to the bearing. The bearings are sealed so not having oil shouldn’t bother them. Eventually I’m going to have to finish the bodywork but that’s later. Now for some fun.

I’ll have the car at the Goodguys KY Nationals at the horse park in Lexington KY in October. Looking forward the that.

driving

Well, everything seems to be working well. Drove it to work (80 mile round trip) twice in the last two weeks. The roads are terrible around the Cincinnati area however and it's hard to bounce it around so much. Drives so much better on the new wheels. No vibration. I had to add an extra brace to the alternator bracket I made. So everything is going well. I might get so bored I finish the bodywork!

A couple new pics.

air

Thanks Gents.

Still not done with it. I've decided to go ahead and modify the fender flares to fit over the tires so I can drop it down where I want it.

I did get my air cleaner heat shield done. The engine is finished other than cleaning up a bit of the wiring for the MSD box and the Fuel injection.

The fuel injection is working out really well. the car has much faster throttle response, starts so easily. Just feels better than the carb.

I'll post some updates on the flare rework as I go.

fenders

Well, I decided to go ahead and redo the rear fenders to fit over the new tires. It just bugged me to see the tires sticking out so much. So after a week of gluing foam on and sanding and bondo I have the driver side fender profile looking pretty good. now I have to duplicate it for the other side. I'll leave the corner sharp until I get the other side to match then I'll sand a nice radius on it. Then fiberglass. I have to blend the fender into the lower rear section and the sideskirt is going to have to get wider to match as well. Still a lot of work. I'm going to shoot the entire car again to get the paint to match and should be good to go...................(until I decide to change something else)

The wheels look good on the car and the wider flares give the car an even better look, especially from the rear. Great job.
