Any exterior mods in the plans?

Was considering a 99 spec front end. I'm not big on slapping body kits on a car. The RX7 looks nice in its own right in my opinion.
Last car I had sported the feed side skirts and an RE Amemiya rear pro diffuser. It looks good too but I think I'm going to leave this car mostly alone. Brakes, wheels and tires and maybe some tint are about all the exterior mods it will have.

Any ideas on where you're going for a tune? I need a tune as well.

Just received the Halfspec Antenna to replace the broken FD antenna.
He has a how to posted online. It doesn't look very complicated and the antenna is functional. It's not just cosmetic.
This is what you get in the mail. It is an S2000 antenna and the adapter that he designed and made for it to be an easy retrofit.

Is there a site where we can purchase the half spec antenna? Or do we have to pm him?

The Z photos can't be published until after they run the story on Petrolicious. They don't like the content to be anywhere online before that. The FD is still waiting for DMV to create the NJ title. It's a through the mail only type situation. I've called them twice and they are backlogged by a couple weeks... So no new photos of that car until I can actually drive it somewhere and get some decent shots.

I've also been busy shooting other cars and have a toy run coming up for High Octane South Jerseys efforts for toys for tots and Deborah heart and lung.

New Jersey was kind enough to process the paperwork for my title and I got my tags yesterday. I had today off and it has been raining for a day and a half. After running some errands I came home and it was dry out. I fired up the RX-7, pulled it out of the garage and headed to the Sunoco for its first tank of 93 octane. It's been living off 91 all its life in Canada. Added 16+ gallons of gas and 16 ounces of Premix. I brought my camera and took it for a ride around town.
It's gutless down low. I didn't get on it much. Going to have my tuner check out the tune and add water/meth injection before I fully boost it.

Glad you were finally able to get it out - the pictures look great

What lens were you using?

The gas station shot was my iPhone but the rest were all shot with my newest lens. The Nikon 20mm F1.8G.
It has some CA wide open but stop it down a little and it goes away... Or just remove it in post.
I took that lens because it's really light, wide and I didn't want to bring my whole bag. Usually though the 24-70 F2.8 is my go to lens for these types of shots.
It's 3x heavier and twice the size. Also I wanted to use the newest lens so the last 2 shoots I've forced myself to use it.

Originally I bought it for rig shots. It takes a 77mm filter and most of my pro lenses fit that filter so it has that benefit. As nice as the photos are I still prefer my 24-70. It's just so awesome. It's the one lens I can't ever sell. I've used just about every pro lens Nikon makes between 14 and 300mm and zooms. The 24-70 should be in every camera bag regardless of brand camera you use. It's my walk around lens.

With that nice collection of cars that you own a photography hobby would be handy! :)

This car is just amazing. It looks sooo clean. The wheels work great on it too!

FourtyOunce 11-12-15 08:47 AM

Great looking car! Where in NJ are you located?

I'm in South Jersey near exit 4 off NJTP.

Strange he didn't put 94 in. We do have that here

Oh that's weird. He said it was tuned on 91 octane. I assumed that was all you could get up there.
We had 94 in Virginia but 93 is all they have here in New Jersey at the pump.

GoodfellaFD3S 11-13-15 06:28 AM

Jehan, I'm surprised you and Mike don't know each other. Maybe you should've made it out to some of the Carlisi meets, Mr. World Traveler ;)

You know, its funny how these cars still trump some of the cars of today. Your photos look pretty damn cool and I'm pretty speechless about the car it looks amazing!!!

I feel the same way about these cars and it's why I've now owned 3 of them. Thanks for the comments on the photos and car. I'm trying to Continue the tradition the previous owners did by keeping this car well maintained and garage kept.

Ok so I finally installed the Halfspec Engineering Antenna and I can attest that I now get a STRONG radio signal even inside my closed garage. Where there was once only static.....

My antenna was not functioning at all.

So the car has been repainted and the lock nut was on redneck tight. A screw driver was not going to loosen it. If yours is tight don't use the screw driver. I used a pair of needle nose pliers. Even then go slow and don't use so much force on the tool, you don't want to slip and scratch the paint.
The lock nut ended up getting scared up a bit due to the amount of force it took to remove but it works. JUST TAKE YOUR TIME if yours is extremely tight also.

After following the directions and removing the Antenna from the car you will remove the cover and pull out the antenna mast and nylon gear strip.

These will be left over.

Put back on the car with Halfspecs adapter ready for the S2000 antenna.

Done and looking good.
Be prepared this is one GREASY job.

That looks pretty good. All you needed was the tool to remove the base without scraping it all up.

Yeah I don't have that.

Btw this guy here isn't doing his homework here in the car. He is tuning it. The wide band said lean under boost and rich at idle. John here did some drivability tuning and checked the safety of the tune. It was lean under boost so he added some fuel up top but mostly we worked on the cruising, cold start and around town, stop and go part of the map to smooth out the driving experience.

It feels better but we will revisit this when the cars is ready for its actual final tune and all areas will be addressed. The Water/Meth injection comes first.

Also got surprised by another RX-7 member who I haven't seen in a while. Was a nice trip and it's great getting together with guys from the RX-7 community.
