So, how about a good old fashioned rotary "barn raising" event, or getting a group of knowledgable rotary guys in the NE to go over to Davin's and get that puppy back together?

The guy's been screwed left and right and could really use the help to push the build over the top. Having been there with the screwed part, I know how he feels. There has got to be some of you guys up his way that could contribute a day or two to getting his car back on the road.

Jaiyurai 10-25-12 03:17 PM

If he were closer to me, then it would've already been done. Have a spare room that he could stay if needed.

David Hayes 10-25-12 06:15 PM

Anyone with rotary expertise in the NE willing to get this guy over the hump? Sorry for the thread jacking Davin but thought I'd see if I could rally the troops to help out.

It's up to you guys now.

Davin 10-26-12 08:34 AM

If things could not get any worse, it looks like I will be moving in a hurricane that is merging with a winter storm. And my engine is still not bolted to anything, so moving it far away would ruin the car even more. I appreciate all the people willing to help. I really appreciate it.

RXtacy 10-26-12 09:44 AM

Sorry to hear about all the troubles. I think I remember reading you're in the DC area? I'm up in Rockville, you're more than welcome to store your FD at my house until you get back on your feet. I can't offer a garage, but I have a personal driveway. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. :icon_tup:

muibubbles 10-26-12 11:30 AM

This is why I love the rx7 community.

I feel you bro, the county keeps showing up at my house trying to tow my car to the scrap yard (obscure county laws says if car doesnt move for 30 days it goes to the crusher). my next door neighbor keeps calling the cops on it, so I know how you feel.

Anyway, where are you located? If you are close by I can swing over and give you a hand in any way you need. I know exactly how nice it is to get extra help as I built my car pretty much completely alone.

Remember we are all here for ya.

David Hayes 10-26-12 01:25 PM

Keep the help offers coming guys. Davin didn't ask for the help but he is deserving for sure. Lets hook him up and get him back on the road.

Makes me glad to see the community coming forward.

So with the storm: I rented a Ford F150 to get my engine from the garage to bring it to my new place safely and to move everything else. It turned out a lot of my friends needed help to evacuate and the F150 with the new Ecoboost engine was perfect. I went as far as NYC to help them all out and was the craziest workout I've ever done. It was pretty nuts and we had a small window of opportunity to do everything before shit really hit the fan. It felt like I ran a marathon moving all kinds of stuff from the basement from one house to another. The next day, I could not even move.

David Hayes 11-11-12 07:04 PM

Damn Davin that's a lot of work that I am sure is much appreciated. Glad things seem to be moving in the right direction. I say screw it and slap in that 20B :)

muibubbles 11-12-12 05:48 AM

so in the mist of all this you got 4 new seats and a 20b? lolololoolooll welcome back daddy

Yes, it was a lot of work. I had a weekend, two days off because of the storm and I asked my boss if I could have a few more to get things straightened out. It was by far the craziest thing I've done in my life. And all I want is a running car. That is all I want, I just want it to work. And trying to put in a 20B could probably take another 5 years for the car to be operational (if I went that route). I am just going to hold onto it and make my own stuff for it in Solidworks. I also need to finally get back into my composite work again.

I've been trying to mate this fucking piece of fucking shit fucking engine with a shitty fucking rebuild to the fucking transmission without fucking up the fucking pilot fucking bearing in the freezing fucking cold in DC. Every time I come back to this fucking car after taking a breather, I get stressed the fuck out with the little free fucking time I fucking have to unfuck someone else's fuck up that I worked my fucking ass off to pay to fucking fix for the second time.

scrapp 12-01-12 07:33 PM

Hey man, I just wanted to come in here and wish you luck, let you know another set of eyes are upon you hoping the best for you. Personal troubles are never easy to pass empathy over to another person... Just makes you want to tell others to "fuck off"

I wish I could offer help somehow. I'm stuck down in Texas.

If it makes you feel better, shits kinda hitting the fan for me in a total shitstorm of the last few weeks, with major bills coming up in a week... AAAaannnd I came home last night WAY too late to find out someone fell though my ceiling. On my bed. shit everywhere. literally. Looks like roach shit.
I said fuck it and slept in the dining room..

(GOOD LUCK MAN! keeping prayers for you to get through this and still have your cake.)

TwinCharged RX7 12-01-12 07:44 PM

So who screwed up the engine? I'm sure others would like to avoid your misfortunes.

notveryhappyjack 12-03-12 12:00 AM

You have a lot of cool shit going on in this thread, be proud of what work you have done already. I mean, fuck I don't know you butd after looking at your what you have in front of you I'm proud of you. This stuff isn't easy to do on your own, not having a nice furnished garage makes it even more difficult.

My advice-
The angle you have the hoist leverer is too much to the side, diagonal is going to make you fight alot more lining it up and also will make the tilt/level feature very hard to use.

Straighten the engine level holding the motor if you can and try to get it more in line with the car, not saying its perfect, I attached the hoist to the hole for the water pump fastener combined with the one your already using on the front iron. Your water pump is not stock so if that location doesn't help think about fabricating a simple little bracket you could bolt to the front cover which would allow you to lift the motor aligned from center.

Use a floor jack and tilt the transmission up fairly high on the firewall, keep gravity on your side when your mating motor/Bhouse

I found that mating the bellhouse and the block before setting it on the mounts is simpler task compared to vice versa.

Were here to help :sadwavey: all of us wanna hear you're out enjoing and driving a bad ass seven

^^notveryhappyjack speaks troof! I feel you tho man. It can be very frustrating dealing with builds sometimes, especially when trying to juggle a build and other things in life. Good music on a iPod will help while working on it, instead of thinking in a rage. at least i know it helps me! build is coming along nice tho. don't let it get to you, things look good! Best of luck!

So for a technically challenged guy, you going 20b now?

I guess maybe you can throw in there that I'm a dishwasher on minimum wage with a two inch penis and enjoys enemas every weekend  But keep in mind I pulled my engine in an open and unstable parking structure with a 20 degree incline at 2am to be undetected by my landlord. I also had to tie a rope around the engine hoist and secured it to a post as well. One time of which, if I was under the car 10 seconds longer popping the thrust bearing from the clutch, I would have been crushed to death since it slide off the jack stands when a car went by and punching a hole through the car. Mind you, I have very little free time on my hands and do not have the space to do what needed to be done, hence why I took my car to get a rebuild.

As chronicled earlier in my posts, there was no positive crankcase ventilation installed in the engine after the rebuild I had on earlier which resulted in my rear main seal blowing out the stationary gear. So that was fixed along with the oil pan not properly sealed and some other stuff. And reinstalling the engine was a bitch because you cannot just shove it in like you normally would, have it potentially come off the jackstands yet again, roll down the parking structure and fall three stories into the busy street. Ideally I was hoping to have a running car so I can take it to military bases to work on. The car does run and drive fine, but there are a lot of kinks that need to be worked out and I do not trust the car anymore to take it to a place to work on it myself. And I'm not taking it anywhere where people can happily make more money off of me. So yes, I'm going to eventually build this 20B so I will have a car I will eventually get to enjoy sometime in this lifetime. But in the meantime, it looks like I have a car that is going to sit yet again for a number of years :(
