overdue build thread

5 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, so I've always wanted to make a build thread but was always too busy and lazy.

When i first purchased my FD I wasnt sure what i wanted to do with it. I was mostly into cars and highway pulls, stuff like that.
But I've grown big into drifting so you'll see this thread make its way to that side of the spectrum.
Even though i havent drifted it much im still learning. (Dont be mean, i know im learning to drift on a fd...)

I bought my car march of 2011. Yes i know a long long time ago haha and alot has been done to the car since but im going to try and go in order of the upgrades that ive done.

Trust me theres a ton of fresh material that i still need to do so this thread i feel will never die. Plus i always like changing stuff up.

Any comments and thoughts are open to discussion. I'm always open to new views on setups whether i go that route or not.

Its a really clean FD except for the paint :icon_tdow:(
but i cant complain, its whatever.

It was mostly stock when i bought it but had some money saving upgrades luckily.

It had

Fuel Pump (Walbro 255l)
Block off plates
Tweakit Racing air Pump Delete Idler pulley
PFC and Commander (street tuned 13 psi)
ACT street/strip clutch
Boost gauge (Column mount)
Down pipe
High-flow cat
Racing Beat dual tip cat back
Koni adjustable shocks with H&R coil-over’s
Tripoint adjustable front sway bar (.188)
Racing Beat rear sway bar
Unobtaniun bushings
Pettit Aluminum AST
upgraded radiator

of course the first thing i change is the shifter (RICER LOVE!!!) haha
actually i liked the stock shifter but it was so worn out it was making my hand all black.
so that had to change.

i ended up just buying a cheap Razo shift knobAttachment 648679

paint looked better when it was wet after a wash. lolAttachment 648680

rotarypower12 03-23-14 03:59 PM

upgrades were slow in the beginning as i didn't have alot of money left after buying it driving it back from kentucky to chicago.(was an awesome trip) and registering and all that bullshit.

but i did have fun driving it
Also this is the first rotary i have ever owned and was instantly hooked.

Spalato 03-23-14 05:17 PM

Nice FD! Hope you got that front lip painted :P

Fd3BOOST 03-24-14 05:23 PM

The car looks pretty decent as is. I wouldn't do much right out of the gate.! If I were giving advice I would suggest getting a nice set of wheels on it and just enjoy it for a while. I would leave the drifting to a car that is in worse shape than yours.

ZE Power MX6 03-24-14 05:34 PM

Nice, more FD in IL!

I was confused as to either get the OEM aluminum piping kit and throw money out the window on that or just upgrade the intercooler...
obviously sooner or later i want to go single/upgrade intercooler anyways

decisions, decisions...

Fd3BOOST 03-25-14 04:27 PM

I wouldn't recommend doing the single turbo route just yet. I've been down that road it's not all it's cracked up to be. You're looking at spending a whole crap load of cash to get it done correctly and the character of the car is going to change tremendously doing so.
Not to mention the car is plenty fast on twins. I had a 430 hp single turbo Fd and some of my older cars with twins were more enjoyable to drive to be totally honest. A lot of the single turbo power is on the top end, which if your street driving does you little good. Its fun to spin the tires etc. But in all reality it's just more HP than is really usable on the street unless your cruising around at 80-150 mph on a daily basis. Good luck keeping your license for a long time doing that. Ask me how I know...

Single turbos are awesome to look at, They are easier to work on and they make great top end power. They are also not as bad with heat in the engine bay, mostly due to the stock manifold vs. stainless manifolds. But for fun street DRIVING it's hard to beat a good set of twins.

I'd hold off on turbo swaps until you blow a motor, lose a coolant seal or something dramatic which then it might prompt you to try out a single set up.
I would definitely want to upgrade your intercooler though to a medium sized stock mount one. It's a good upgrade and you don't have to break the piggy bank open to do it.

Yea no dude I totally agree with you. The twins are awesome for street cars and all around fun.

And realistically with our weight and that type of power these cars still fly.

i was going to install this stuff myself but soon after my car was being taken to Banzai Racing and there was no point to install things that would get taken right back out...

just in time for winter on 12/14/11 my car was taken to Banzai.

While my car was at Banzai for the winter it ended up getting an engine rebuild with a streetport.

Simple custom intake.
New rad hoses
New clutch disk
New plugs

Along with the new intercooler being installed also.

Car is looking good! How do you like those engine mounts? Is it a big difference from stock? Hows the NVH?
