NA 20B build

2 Attachment(s)
I've been accumulating parts for my next build and figured this was the perfect place to document it.

Car is a Silver 93 touring with around 35K miles. I bought the car to part out, but never got rid of the roller. Its fairly stock except for a set of stance coilovers, a 99? spec steering wheel, rear seats. Plans are for a fairly simple and relatively cheap build.

-Mounting kit from Defined should be on the way soon
-C series 20B with NA 2nd gen rotors
-PFS broke down the block and is going to do a soft seal rebuild and porting. Currently deciding if I should keep its half bridge, go with a full bridge, or get new irons and street port them
-55mm Kinsler ITBs
-A used header that I picked up on here
-TEC 3r
-A massive Fluidyne radiator with an identical size oil cooler sandwiched between the radiator and fans
-Fikse FM10s or Mach 5s
-Racing beat dual with as many resonators/ xr1s I can cram under the car.
-A fresh coat of silver followed by a 3M matte silver wrap, or sprayed in frost silver like the M series
-A set of Recaros

Glad to see the build thread finally started! Looking good already.

Mike... Really looking forward to this. Will you be at Deals Gap?

Gordon

I dont think I'll make it to the Deals Gap. I am planning to head to Friday at the Track @ summit point sevral times this year. Hopefully I can get away to VIR atleast once this year. Chin Motorsports has an event @ VIR the weekend of the 4th...

I also heard good news from Sikky Motorsoprts this past week. They are finalizing thier mounting kit that useses the factory subframe (LSx RX7). I'll post the build pics from my LS1 RX7 build in here when I find my old hard drive. I was gettign a little worried I might beat JimLab for the longest uncompleted LSx RX7 build...

Is that a wrap of a satin clear coat? I always thought wraps were cheap until someone in my condo wrapped their CLS 63. Looked amazing...

It's paint. Frozen grey metallic off the special edition M3.

Love the satin silver. How is it to care for? Waxing, washing, touch ups, etc.?

diabolical1 02-11-13 10:34 AM

i like the sounds of it ... and Kinsler ITBs, eh? :) should be a real firecracker when it's all done.

Washing/ waxing require a speacial wash/ wax. Not a big deal. Satin paint can't be buffed, and color matches are supposed to be extermely diffuclt...

Makes sence to wrap the car, although I'm not sure I'd want a giant sticker...

RXtacy do you have a thread with more pics. I'd love to see them.

Small update:
Sending my Tec 3 out for a Wintec 4 upgrade and six idividual coils. Can't belive the upgrade & coils cost more thatn I sold my LT-12 & Bosch coils for...

Care is virtually the same as any paint job. As Mdessouki said color matching is pretty difficult.

No special wash/wax needed, but you're right about the rest.

I don't currently. At some point I'll get a build thread together, but I can either put more in here or e-mail them if you want. I don't have a whole lot of pictures though.

Nothing new to post on. Figured I throw up a pic of the current porting on the secondaries. and a random pic of the LS1 RX7 I never finished...

Mdessouki 04-13-13 09:39 PM

The ITBs are 55mm. I'm going to have to trim the stacks to fit the hood, so I have no idea what length it will be in the end. I'm sure Logan has his reasons for his intake lengths. I'm just working with what I have. I may get Logan to build me one, If I put down disappointing numbers (<300rwhp).

I have no idea when Ray can get it in the shop. If he can't get it done this summer, I'll take a few weeks off bolt it together in June. He hasn't rebuilt the motor, but I emailed him a few ideas of what I was thinking. He knows I just want a fun street car that I can take to the track a few times a year; I'll trust his judgement on what I need.

-Clean up existing porting, keeping the half bridge.
-Dynamically balanced rotating assembly.
-Lapping and re-nitrating the irons, if needed.
-Sending out all three housings to be resurfaced, or just replacing the one questionable one.
-Clean up/ enlarge oil passages in the irons. Tap the irons for external oil feeds.
-Clean up/ enlarge coolant passages in the housings and irons.
-Replace the 20B exhaust sleeves with FD exhaust sleeves or Rotary Works Titanium sleeves .

Am I missing anything?

Feel free to post them in here, or in the main FD picture thread that can be found here: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...27776/page236/

I'm looking forward to the event, and would gladly take you up on your offer. I sold my last RX7 to PFS back in 98, so its been around 14 years since I've driven a rotary powered RX7.

I've got to get this thing running. Ive got an itch to go test drive the new Cayman. I'm sure the RX7 will relive it, I'm just hoping i don't cave first.

Are you still running three ID 1000cc injectors? Has that proven to be sufficient?

I thought the same but he mentioned it's paint on post #7 "It's paint. Frozen grey metallic off the special edition M3."

Ahh.. Thanks! I shouldn't of just scanned the thread :)

bufferovrflo 05-15-13 12:22 AM

No worries; I thought the same and made me strongly consider wrapping mine :P Still on the fence about it

Herblenny 05-15-13 09:18 PM

One of the main reason for asking is because I tried wrapping and wrapping the feed bumper is a nightmare. Wanted to get some input about it if it was wrapped. Also, when you really look into wrapping an FD, its not an easy task.

Bewst 05-16-13 03:28 PM

Love the way 20B's sound!

Mdessouki 02-18-14 01:10 AM

Nothing much to report but a little progress:
Dropped off three spare 20b rotor housings, Ray will pick the best of the six for the build.
Picked up the rotating assembly, which will be sent out to be balanced.

Anybody know where I can get a thick 20b IM to block flange cut up? I'm thinking of buying a welder and trying to fab a LIM.

You'll need a tube bender and a chop saw too if your planning on tackling that yourself.

This should be an interested thread.
I'd like to see pics of the car itself and what ever became of your v8 swap?

V8 RX7 has been sitting for several years. I just need to mount the battery, re-install the dash, and re-install the cooling system. I never cared for the sound of a LSX or a bump steer kit. Cant decide if I want to finish it or part it. I think its worth more in parts at this point...

Not sure if I'll actually have time to build this car or have PFS do the whole thing. At this point I'm just taking it one step at a time.

I'm a huge fan of the color you chose. Can't wait to see it color sanded and buffed.

-=Lil Red=- 02-19-14 12:53 PM

we need more 20B NA builds :)

Rxmfn7 02-19-14 01:06 PM

Nah.. we just need the ones we have to run
