My Street/Track Definite Keeper Build

Hello Forum!
I've been messing with the idea a few months ago about purchasing another FD shell with no sunroof just because it gets annoying having to tilt my head every time I had my helmet on. Don't get me wrong, I did everything I can including Recaro SPG and modifying my Nagisa rails to sit lower. Anyways, fast forward to end of March and whattyaknow, the car is in a slight front end accident and the insurance paid out handsomely.

Luckily I had another car ready thanks to TRISPEEDFD3S. I was looking for a silver no sunroof and figured my only option would be a R2 but luckily he had a base model with a blown motor just sitting. With the insurance payout and some cash, it was off to Norcal with a borrowed truck from my friends over at Platte Forme A.G. and trailer from Uhaul.

During the trip, Google map told me it would only take 5 hours to get there but I then realized that it was probably calculated based on the speed limit of 70mph while I can only tow 55mph. Though I could have probably gone faster, towing at 70mph and high wind felt like driving on ice and it was also my first time towing anything. When I arrived and examined the car, it was in good condition with some damage to the front bumper and fenders but since I was moving my Shine fenders over, it didn't matter too much.

The car itself came with a decent amount of aftermarket parts including Greddy intake, RE-Amemiya AST, Koyo Rad, 99 spec RZ turbo, Shine Feed hood (has 4 latches due to 2 being added later when the latch snapped off) and others that I'm forgetting.

After the uneventful 8hr drive back to socal, I dropped the car off at my good friend's Will Wattanwongkiri Racing (WWR) and started tearing apart the two cars and transferring my old motor, Recaro SPG, Enkei RPF1, Defi gauges, Power FC, SBG oil cooler, Defined Autoworks V-Mount, SBG headlights and Shine fender over from the old car to the new. After 4 full 18hr days, my first rotary pull and swap is done and the new car is ready for the mods!

Though I have installed a few things such as the AEM 320lph Fuel Pump, Pineapple Racing Idler Pulley and Banzai Block Off Plates, I'm still waiting for a few more things in the mail. Here are some photos of the old FD.

Just had the pleasure of having my FD tuned by Daniel over at Garage Life. For starters, my car had a tune already from a pretty well known tuner but the tune is also close to 8 years old. I know things have changed since then and hence why I'm not naming names. Second, usually I don't notice small changes in the car right away but with this tune, I noticed an instant change in power and power band. I had the car street tuned due to a lack of time since I had a track day the very next day. We found a desolate area and started doing some pulls to understand where the car is at for the tune and what needs to be done. He worked his magic and I managed to gain a very good amount of mid-range power and even low end torque. Since we had no dyno access that night, he made sure the tune was very conservative to hold me over until we schedule a dyno session. All I can say at this point was I was very pleased with this conservative tune and cannot wait for him to get more aggressive with the tune. Another kicker is my mpg went up by roughly 6 on the first tank. This included track time so I'm sure I'll see a larger increase the next fill up.

I just wrapped it purple but I'm thinking of actually permanently painting it a techno violet or something similar. I may also start looking into a dark gunmetal also.

Just a personal update since it's been a while.

Purchased these a while ago and it's been sitting in my garage since July.
Volk Racing ZE40 Bronze 18x9.5 +22
Attachment 754788

I also replaced my red Bride seats since I felt red and purple didn't mesh well together. I purchased my old Recaro back from my friend's race car.
Attachment 754789

Around September, I started to work on the car again in anticipation for end of Oct track day. I purchased new Porterfield R4 pads, Motul RBF600, Rennenmetal front and rear tow hook and headed off to Buttonwillow!

I also found a used Buddy Club exhaust on the forum and it was cheap enough to compare it to the Racing Beat. I've heard Buddy Club exhaust on youtube and quite frankly, it sounded like shit. However, with the RX7 Store resonated midpipe, it actually sounds really nice so I ended up keeping it and selling my Racing Beat.

Since track day was over and Sevenstock was coming up, I decided to stop being lazy and finish wrapping the new Shine front bumper. However, I took a good look at it and felt unmotivated once again so I paid a local guy to wrap it for cheap.

Thanks Jacob but it looks way better in photos than in person. Maybe I'm just anal about it lol.

I love the wheels but hate the spoiler. Just my opinion though!

And I laughed out loud when I read that you did not exceed 55 with the u-haul trailer. I pulled my FD from Fargo, ND to Madison, WI and set my cruise at 75-80 the entire way pulling it with a 08 Toyota Highlander! You could have saved yourself a ton of time!

jasonn 11-14-14 11:48 AM

No problem! I know the spoiler isn't for everyone but for what I use my car for, I use it. I did accidentally go 75 one time but I started panicking when I looked back and see the rx7 swaying lol

4g63rotary 11-14-14 03:53 PM

Looking pretty dope dude, finally got that front bumper all sorted out!

silverTRD 11-14-14 06:36 PM

looks awesome. So how do the stands mount?

they mount from the bottom. Just still 4 holes and have 4 bolts go through the trunk and into the stands.
