My 1993 Build Thread

Just picked up my 1993 RX7 FD two nights ago! Gonna be some time before it's up and running. Has a lot of work to be done. Just a plain ole shell that came with a carbon fiber hood, flush mount headlights, bumper with the F1 lip, still has the wiring, and full interior. No engine, trans, or drivetrain.

Things in need:

-New seals all around
-New driver side outside door handle
-Interior cleaned
-New windshield
-Bumper installed
-Headlights installed
-Engine
-Trans
-Drivetrain
-A lot of wiring
-Brakes
-Rotors
-Interior trim pieces
-Wheels
-Tires
-Paint

Still tearing the car apart so I'm sure I'll find/break more parts lol.

Here's the pics...

Pickup night and pulled it back home with the wifes Trailblazer SS

As for my plan, that will be unrevealed when the time comes. Right now I'm just removing all the wiring and unnecessary components.

Tem120 10-15-11 08:32 PM

Twins??? seriously TWINS??? haha in a few minutes you may understand why I said this..

Good luck with the build and I concur on the " thank god you are getting rid of those lights "

I hate the frog eyes.. LoL

you're quite a bit ahead though..

Could you please take a few pictures of the oil cooler I'm at a loss as to how it goes ... It thank you over and a gain for that

thebucky84 10-16-11 01:27 AM

Yeah I like the flip ups, looks a lot cleaner when they are down. The oil cooler isn't in the car

Tem120 10-16-11 12:03 PM

well R1 consist of no sun roof, rear spoiler, front lip, no cruise control, dual oil coolers, suede seats, r1 strut bar, no rear wiper on hatch.

base is no sun roof, cloth seats, no trunk spoiler , no rear wiper..

im probably missing something but yours looks to be r1

Battle Cat 10-17-11 01:53 AM

after looking at the pics again im leaning towards your fd is an R1 which is pretty neat.. deff gonna follow this build

thebucky84 10-17-11 06:35 AM

well it does have what appears to be a factory strut, so thats pretty neat that I got a R1 lol. Thanks for info, if I can learn something new everyday about these cars then thats good for me!

thebucky84 10-21-11 11:50 PM

Hey man.....cant wait till I start looking for mine. You are at a good start.

thebucky84 02-04-12 01:29 PM

Finally an update!:

Well I'm to do some work on it this weekend, been busy with work and school. I should be getting the engine and transmission here soon. Once that happens I'll be able to make the needed mounts. I've sourced the new wiring harness for cheap so that's good news for me. I have also determined what color I want to paint the 7. I'm sticking with a Mazda paint code and will be Sky Blue Mica (41B) from the new line of Mazdas. For now I'll be continuing to strip it down to the bones to get completely painted. If I have time to work on it this weekend I'll snap some progress photos!

silver_7 02-07-12 05:06 PM

Nice...love that color

thebucky84 02-07-12 11:40 PM

yeah I hope it fits the car well. Got caught up with homework this past weekend, but am hoping I can get some good work done this weekend. Hopefully I'll be picking up the engine and transmission on Sunday too!

Coming along good, keep up there progress

Pjdog 02-08-12 05:25 PM

Nice

thebucky84 02-25-12 02:19 AM

looks like I am going to have to put this on hold for a few months. Just got picked up for a short tasking deployment. Just means more money to finish it up when I get back! Good thing is I'll only be gone for a couple of months and will be getting my tax free reenlistment bonus over there :p.. I'm hoping I can finish stripping it down completely before I leave!

thebucky84 05-06-12 02:29 PM

finally an update! Well recently got back from deployment and returning with a nice bonus ;) ..Sold my R1 front bumper and will be ordering my 99 spec one here shortly. Haven't done any work on stripping the 7 since I've been back but will be back at it here shortly. Have the engine already and just need to order the internals, transmission and bell housing, which should be all taken care of this coming week!

silver_7 05-08-12 06:09 PM

Glad to hear things are starting to come together. Cant wait to see what you do with the motor.

FINALLY got back into it today. Finished pulling all of the harness out of the front including everything in the dash. Removed firewall insulation, passenger door cover, and floor mats, also removed more components from the engine bay. I'm going to continue to remove more panels, the headliner, seats, and carpet throughout this week. Only issue is I'm running out room in my garage to put everything I take out!! lol... Here's a couple cell phone pics from today, I'll make sure to post my progress throughout the week. I guess my motivation to get back in the garage is the soon coming of more parts! :D
