Looks like a fun build. Keep up the posts so I can get ideas as I am just starting to pull mine into pieces.

I will have all these brackets and shields powder coated in black. |
Meanwhile primary rail arrived. Charles @ CJ-Motorsports is one of my favourite vendors. 100% customer satisfaction.

The car is booked in for an exhaust system next week. I have a 3.5" downpipe for better spool but decided to do the rest of the system 3" as I want a reasonably quiet system. I'm thinking of getting a resonated midpipe and a reasonably quiet muffler. If I can't handle the fuel smell I will take the car back and get a performance cat. Just not at this stage because I first want to get the tuning right as bad tunning can clog up or burn the cat.
I have a HKS muffler which I won't be using. I am planning to get a custom dual tip or oval (rectangular) muffler in similar shape to the exhaust area of the bumper. Will try to update pics soon. |

Thanks Aaron.
Ordered a Maxi Display and a shift light from Maxi Gauges. I am looking for display alternatives as I'm not too keen on the yellow green display. The manufacturer is in the process of developing a fancy graphic display but it may take some time so I am considering other alternatives like VFD, OLED or even a character LCD with better display colour (white, black etc.). http://imageshack.us/a/img707/8599/maxi2t.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img829/789/sonav.jpg Video: MaxiGauges's channel - YouTube For more information on Maxi Gauges you can check the link below. It is in Turkish but you'll get most of the car related terms and figures: Sat I'll post pics of it installed in my car in few weeks because I will have to have a custom surround made for it. It will be installed in the DIN compartment. |
Testing tyre sizes... 245/35s in front look fine but rear 285/30s don't look as good and I don't want a big difference between the front and the rear widths so the car won't understeer.

Here are some videos of my MaxiDisplay. The manufacturer is working on a graphic display and I will probably the first one to get it but I went with this for the time being. My main reason for going with a single display is I did not want to clutter the dashboard with many gauges or go for the jetfighter look.
Please ignore the cylinder selection menu lol |
very cool, nice job.

Great progress on your build, subscribed...
Parts for this car are hard and expensive enough to get in the States, so kudos on acquiring what you have. |
i love those gauges. your build is awesome so far. what kinda heat barrier film is that on the trans tunnel and where did you get it?
|
Thanks guys!
Eric, that's the reason I called it called mission "impossible". An injector adapter was not sent, wait 10 days, primary injector plug broke, wait another 10 days etc. Although I ordered all parts that I could think of ahead of time there were still major delays because I had to order missing stuff from US. By now I probably have enough patience points to challenge Dalai Lama. As for the cost, it's illegal to import 2nd hand parts here so 99% of the parts I got are brand new, whereas if I was in US, I could've gotten some unimportant parts 2nd hand. To give you an example, I got my engine from US close to 5k but costed me close to 7k with commissions, shipping and taxes etc. In US that'd get you an engine with higher hp potential or fancier accessories. Got the Enkeis for 1.3k from US but costed me 2.3k, again in US that'd get me close to SSR etc. But I am not complaining. That's the price you pay for owning and modifying the only original FD RX7 in the country. There are 2 others that I know of (one has a 2jz swap, the other is a repaired insurance ride off but still falling apart). I can always upgrade things in the future, my priority atm is getting this thing back on the road. ------------- Funnyscreenname search for "automotive heat shield & sound insulation barrier 21x48" in ebay. If you can't find it let me know and I will send you a link via pm. This is the video of it: |
Good read. Like where this is going :icon_tup:
|
^ dude....that sucks. You have every right to complain if you'd like!
|
I got the throttle body back from chrome powder coating and fuel lines are done. I'm running a parallel set-up. Generally the fpr is placed on the intake manifold but we thought it'd be too cramped over there with parallel lines so we placed the fpr away.
BTW THIS IS OUR FIRST RX7 AND ROTARY BUILD SO ANY SUGGESTIONS OR CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM IS WELCOME. THERE MAY BE SOME DETAILS WE ARE MISSING OR GOING THE WRONG WAY ABOUT. I USUALLY SEARCH THE FORUMS BEFORE DOING AN INSTALL OR A MODIFICATION BUT STILL.... http://imageshack.us/a/img442/1283/i...1018wa0005.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img546/9146/20121020160458.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img90/4628/20121020160512.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img546/2425/20121020160505.jpg |

This whole build is just excellent. Just found this, really is sharp!
Where are you getting the metal parts re-plated? Is it somewhere locally? That bright gold plating looks fantastic! Dale |

For example I would like all hoses to be black but what we have here atm are blue and red vacuum hoses only. Although I'm not very keen on either one of them, I'll have to go with blue vacuum hoses not to delay the project any longer. I don't have the luxury of time anymore as winter is just around the corner :( http://imageshack.us/a/img694/2027/img2991w.jpg |
great build

Beautiful. Great work.

Awesome build, keep up the good work!

Thanks guys!
Had to remove the manifold to do some adjustments and to put hoses on OMP breather nozzles or whatever it is called. I don't want my engine bay dirtied with oil mist. The problem is I can't connect these to a vacuum hose which leaves me no option but to have the hoses open ended and routed to somewhere under the car. Took better pics of my parallel fuel lines setup: http://imageshack.us/a/img651/4919/20121023143315.jpg Battery relocation done. The battery is an Odyssey PC925, next to it is the kill switch so I don't have to remove the battery terminals each time. http://imageshack.us/a/img407/5903/20121023145325.jpg |
i think it's really cool getting alotta the parts galvanized. they'll stay looking good and won't rust. i actually just got on here to see what options there was as far as hardware. i'd like to replace alotta mine with aluminum, titanium, or other metal that won't rust.
i also looked up that heat shielding. good stuff. haven't got the chance to order any yet. i'm actually swapping in an LSx motor so i'm trying to heat proof the cabin and also make the ride quieter. i plan on lining the floor and tranny tunnel with the material above. thinking about using the gold heat shield on the firewall in the engine bay tho. |
