The show wiped me out! I was exhausted when I got back to LA! Hope thats not a sign i'm getting old

Duuuude. Trade shows are brutal. Think about the guys workin' them, yeeeesh. I liked it though, PRI is always a good show and likewise; it was great meeting you.

Saw the WRC car, also saw the Honda Indy car - that was pretty sweet. My favorite part of the show is machine row for sure... toys, so many toys!

No kidding! Definitely a long week. But totally worth it. I was pretty mesmerized by the machines. Some of them I just want in the garage just to make it look like I was reeeeaaaaallll serious haha. Pretty cool to watch some of the demo's too. Did you see the Samsonas sequential Box? I love the case... and have been following some of the WTAC Cars that run them. Sooo sick!!!!

Small Update:

Was invited to go work the Adaptronic Booth at PRI this past weekend!! The PRI show was awesome! I'd have to say it was def a bit cooler than the SEMA Show in terms of the performance aspect of things.

I've always enjoyed airports... well after your through security that is haha.
At a sports bar enjoying a nice breakfast and watching a Champions league match before boarding.

Bosch and ID had some really cool products to display that'll be coming out this year!! a few of them in the next few months!!

To replace the ID 1K and the ID 2K ID have come out with the following...
Attachment 617700
As well as these Trick Fuel filter set up's that have been proven to out Filter other name brand high Micron units... I'll leave the Details up to ID when they're release but iI will definitely be using one of these once they hit the Market!! ..a small hint of a detail though.. Wondering about WHEN you should change the filter?!! ...well this unit incorperates a differential FP Sensor... taken before the Filter.. then when you see a pressure difference After it.. you'll know it's time to change it. You can use your existing Fuel Pressure sensor ...say on the fuel rail for the reference. They've also got a very cool see through gauge on them! Although I'm sure they call it something else LOL
Attachment 617701
The Adaptronic Booth wasssss PACKED the whole week and Weekend! With the release of the New Modular ECU... I couldn't believe the responce from not only the public, shops and tuners... but OTHER ECU companies etc. It was funny to hear some of them ask questions...and then see the look on their faces when Andy explained to them that the older plug in models were highly capable as well. And that the newer Modular ECUS have taken it to the next level.. and ALSO let the consumer have the ability to expand their current ecu if they want more functions...Without having to spend money on a New ECU and worry about compatibility etc. It's the first of it's kind and we got a TON of good soid feedback from the show! I'll be using one on the wolf as well!!
The Adaptronic Booth!

The New Eugene Software.....WHICH will be run on all the CURRENT line ECU's as well =-)

I woke up Every morning at 5:45 before leaving to the event at 7. Just to get my bearings straight, do some thinking and work out exactly how and what companies I'd be engaging regarding sponsorships. I'd also take it one step at a time. So If I really wanted to talk to say XX company...but all of the employees didn't want anything to do with me.. Id simply X them off the list. If I felt like it was a bad rep of the company... I'd pass and go back the next day. It really is IMportant WHO you talk to within the company. And I've noticed that a lot of employees will act as though they can really help you...but really they cant. I actually remember a conversation with a guy in NEW York say........some 8 years ago that will Always stick in my mind. He employed me for a sick ass catering job that to this day was one of the best gigs ive ever had. But he said "99% of the people in this industry who say they can help you....Cant." And he was right and wrong.. Right because every part of that statement is tru.... WRONG because the it's not just in his catering industry.. its ANY and EVERY industry.... In my experience that is...where that is relevant. So after a while... Id start asking.. "Who's in charge of Marketing Opportunities and SPonsorships?" because then a sales associate wouldn't try to sell you something. Even some of the guys working the booth's couldn't help me because they just didn't know the product. Which I do understand...because not everyone is Tech Support. But I had one particular question for a host of different ignition companies and no one could give me an answer except one guy from AEM...who gave me a 99% confident answer..but said to check with XX guy. Which I do appreciate! Him and I chatted about DIrect fire Ignition and set ups etc.

Anyways... Continental Breakfast and coffee... good for the soul in the AM

Is Bosch finally releasing that sweet new fuel pump? That filter looks awesome also.

That new Adaptronic sounds cool too. It's weird because I was just thinking a week or two ago how cool it would be to have a modular ECU and be able to upgrade the motherboard, etc without having to swap the whole thing. And I love the idea of being able to expand inputs and outputs, at least I assume that's what you were talking about lol.

That pump will be brushless... but it'll be capable of up to 700LPH!! And it works!! I got the full Demo :) ...just still no release date as of yet... Doh:lol:

And yes....Thats exactly what the modular ECU will be. Except...that the Motherboard will be exactly the same in Both Units. The only Difference will be a small box and a large box. The Large box and the Small Box both of the same Control unit but packaging will be the biggest deciding factor... So realistically,.. in stead of having to choose from one ecu that has TONS of options... and One that is Limited... Both will have the capability to do the same thing...and the only difference will be how much you want to drive, inputs etc. So for a tech Assssss V8 Swap with Nitrous and 5 Crank angle senors...and 8 EGT inputs.. you'd obviously go with the larger unit. But for someone with a Tech ass 2 Rotor without Nitrous You'd most likely be just fine running the smaller box package because naturally... There isn't as much going on in the ecu. Good Part is the modules are all INside the boxes so it won't look ugly. I'm really excited for the release!!

700LPH is awesome though lol. I guess I'll have to revamp my fuel system yet again. Do you know how big they're gonna be? Like similar to the 044, orrrrr?

Yea I know...........I was hoping to swap to it as well.

But YES!! It's the pump in the top Right of my picture above. The one with"Bosch Motorsport" at the top.

Also If you look at the similarities between the styling of the Injector Dynamics Fuel Filters... You'll notice a resemblance between it...and the Full Function Engineering Stuff... There's a cool reason behind that..:icon_tup:

That pump looks like it'll be the same size as the 044 then, looks like the same casing for the most part.

I haven't seen the FFE stuff, but it's good to see they're expanding.

Where dim pics bra?!?!
Joking!
I noticed a couple things of interest to me on your list.
Your HP and TQ goals - whats the thought process behind this? I ask only because I see a lot of guys going all balls on the power at Formula Drift but in all honesty I find it less entertaining these days with all the LS's but that's a discussion for another day lol.

Stance Signature Series Coilovers - Suspension being pretty integral in all forms of performance cars what are you looking for in yours? Just picking your brain on your expectations on how the change in suspension will affect your overall performance, which I guess works along side the previous question. With all of your upgrades and changes what's your expectation on the difference from your setup from this last season?

Sorry about the pics!!! just ordered a whole butt load of Brand New Mazda Parts!!

Race bearings being amongst :egrin:

So my HP and Tq Goals? My thought process behind this is that Everyone is obsessed with overall HP numbers. And truthfully...I feel like one of the most important and easily overlooked parts of that is overall power delivery. A power band that starts after 4-4500 is a pain. My power band started at 3300ish...if I can have it start at 2800ish.. and be full around 3300ish.... I think i'm making huge progress. Over-all Top End HP isn't a concern. And truthfully...it's just un-necessary in Top Drift. I honestly believe if a driver was good enough... they could probably win a Formula Drift License with a 300WHP 300 Ftlbs tq power band...seriously. But for me.. it's also learning to drive the car with higher power. IF i'm looking at moving into formula drift... I'm going to need to make sure i'm ready when I get there. So naturally...we try things out earlier so that we know it works.... (invest in the future). We're using all of Abels tricks on this new engine....and he's just as excited as I am to get rolling:icon_tup:

So If we can produce a nice Flat Tq Curve all the way up till around 9500... I'll be in real business. It's a bit of a balancing act.... too much power and were going to break shit. Anything near 500 is going to do just that. So we'll push it...and tone it down some. Which has always been my motto anyways. But you see a lot of guys pushing mega power...but always breaking down.... I don't want that to be me. And I think a lot of things go into preventing that. I too find the LS game boring. I mean there are a few cars out there that I look at and think...damn.... they're doing it right. ..one of them is the HGK Corvette! I really think that car is Next level... and of course it's LS Powered. But..im a huge fan of the Japanese muscle powerplants... to me.. its like ...keeping it trill... if you know what i mean  Not everyone would agree with that but those that do.. get it.

So my suspension set up last year was actually pretty decent. I was on old Stance XR's with pretty soft spring rates. If I remember correctly 10k front 8k rear. At the beginning of the year I had one of the judges come to my pit and really shed some light on my suspension set up. He gave me some pointers for alignment and told me to go stiffer... "It'll make the car much easier to drive," he said... The car had heaps of grip... But I didn't necessarily want to lose any of that. I just didn't want the front end to loft through transitions...and I didn't want to battle settling the car once I was back on the power. ...or have to wait for the car to be settled to set my line. Dave at TF works hooked me up with a set of coilovers and spring rates that will settle the car much quicker, keep rear end bite, and make sure that the front of the car is much more responsive to any and all of my input. And just from my quick test drive I can tell he's succeeded in that already. I just can't wait to get a full track day on them.

So I guess my expectations of the car would be a more dialed in machine. Better set up overall,,....pushing the performance limits to an extent to go ahead and put everything we've learned from this past season into the new set up and really just become a better driver. Nestle The Wolf into a nice comfortable balanced place...that I can maintain and keep reliable yet competitive.

Here are some pics just to keep the spirit alive!!

so are you going to run 1 wideband per rotor?even with the heats sinks I wonder what durability be like? I know alot of 4 cylinder guys running them but never seen a rotor, just assumed they lasted 5 mins? you running egt pyros aswell?

No no....I actually thought about that....but I think it might be a little overkill considering we've got dual EGT's as well. The dual Wideband Bungs will go down stream in the exhaust. I've always just used my wide-band....but a lot of the time, dyno's have one as well. It's always cool to see the difference in either..

The Heat sinks are pretty cool. Although..i'll probably have to cut them down a couple ribs. I want to make sure that the sensor tip gets all the way into the exhaust stream. I overheated my wideband 3 times this past year.... Mostly on sessions where I was hot lapping. I figure these heat sinks will help. :icon_tup:

Oh that makes much more sense lol. when I seen the 2 heatsinks I thought wow that's keen as you would kill a lot of sensors there on a rotary. interesting you were able to kill sensors thought. Only one I managed to kill was from a build up of contaminants. I wonder if it was a accumulation of heat or just hitting a really high peak temp. are you using closed loop feedback in vacuum? I assume it was the Bosch 4.2 sensor used by innovate then serial connection to your adaptronic?

FD3S2005 01-17-16 02:25 PM

So your going with the radium surge tank. What happen to the ai surge tank you got from them? Not liking it?

haha... Well a lot of things can kill a sensor like this.. both of the above.. a rich mixture is just going to eventually carbon cake it up.. then excessive heat doesn't help anything.. could be a combination of both. In my case...I have pretty low EGT's ..partly due to running E85...but also due to my tuner. But when the sensor threw the error code.. it was always at the end of a hot lap session. There were times when I knew I should give the car a break.. when people I was driving with would pull off or over to let their cars chill out... I'd just keep going. I've used both the 4.2 and 4.9... I actually wanna say that the older 4.2 seemed more resistant... But that's a bit of me jumping to conclusions. Way too many other factors to be able to make a well thought out decision. Both work..and i'm just pumped I can use either or on the same gauge kit. And yes... serial conn to my Adaptronic.. Simple as...:icon_tup:

Well nothing to hide here. Lets just say that things were promised.. and definitely not fulfilled... and after being put into some really negative situations because of it.. I chose to make a professional decision based off of my experience. For me, leaving AI was a good choice, both from a sponsorship perspective and a component perspective. I don't use any parts that I don't believe in. And I'm not going to sacrifice the performance aspect just to run a logo. A solid company says one thing and delivers. THus far.. Radium Engineering has done that completely for me. its been a 100% professional relationship and thats all I ask for. Plus I do believe in their products and I've seen them perform event after event in Formula Drift :icon_tup: If you've got any specific questions... just PM me... I like to keep things as positive as possible but I also feel entitled to tell people about the good, the bad... and everything I go through if it's going to prevent hardship or a negative experience in the future.

Update: Gathering all the bearings

Whats up guys!?! Well things have been hectic as ever. Between moving down to Santa Ana to start working through Rad Industries and getting everything sorted for the wolf... I've practically been Non Stop 7 days a week.

Good News is I have signed another year contract with Mad Mike, so I'll be running the 2016 Formula Drift Pro 1 Season along side him as a mechanic once again. Pretty Exciting!! Good news is there is only one event that over laps with Just Drifts FD Pro-Am series. I've got nearly everything worked out this year in terms of scheduling FD and Pro-Am Events. I'll be doing Just Drifts Top Drift Pro-Am a couple rounds of Southwest Drift, and a couple rounds of Golden Gate as well. I really want to put myself to the test. See if I can hang with the best of em! and hopefully beat them as well =-) I've got a lot of work to do in a relatively short amount of time but I'll hustle through it and make it happen. Half of the battle is making the first step!

Some exciting news is I made Drift Life Magazines Vol 1 Issue 6 Print Magazine! A full 6 Page Feature with pics and all!! I'm pretty pumped on it!! If you wanted to take a gander... they're relatively cheap to purchase and they've got tons of awesome content! You can get your copy here:

Got an awesome surprise from BW yesterday morning! EFR9174!! We get to see how much of a difference the 9174 will make over the 8374... but the coolest part is that i won't need to remove the hot-side... Since the wheel is the same size.. I can simply un-fasten the 9174's 5 turbine housing bolts and slide the 8374 in. We'll most likely do it the other way around though. Looking pretty good power delivery wise!! We'll see if the 9174 makes that much more of a difference up top with the higher revs of the semi-p. I'm really looking forward to hitting the dyno and testing at the track!

I'm pretty much halfway moved down to HB area...and I'm going to make another trip today. I'm thinking I should be moved in within the next couple days. Once I get all squared away with the move I can really start to make some progress on the wolf. I'm itching to dive head first into her and really get the new set up squared. After all I've set a deadline to have her done by... in a little over a month which leaves a couple weeks for testing and then Round 1. Yikes!!! Time to get on the horse eh?!

Anyways.... I'll keep everyone in the loop and updates will be pouring in over the next month! so Stay tuned for more Updates!!! talk to you guys soon!
