Really nice project

Turblown Mar 6, 2013 08:24 AM

Where are the rest of the good pixs? :)

JBF Mar 6, 2013 08:50 AM

Working on it still. I'm working out of town and my internet connectivity is limited. I'll be back home this weekend to give more updates.

Little update that kinda fast forwards the progression that I've already done.

Motor is at Lucky 7 being rebuilt and race ported. :)

JBF Mar 9, 2013 09:15 PM

After a little bit of a wait time, I finally got my Turblown manifold. Elliot does some great work.

I also had a buddy of mine clean up my harness and re-wrap it for me. Turned out great. I would have done it myself...but, I ruined a perfectly good harness when I tried it. lol

(disregard early 90s home carpet)

I also bought a replacement carpet for the car since I hated the tan. Absolutely hated it. The fitment of the new carpet was terrible. I had to do a lot more cutting than the "minimal" cutting the company said it would be.

Here's a high quality photo...finally. Dash went back in and checked to see if I cut the carpet in the right places.

More to come...

JBF Mar 10, 2013 11:47 PM

I've been scouring the forums, ebay and craigslist for more things for the car and I started accumulating random stuff...

I should have started the thread as I was going so I could keep better track. lol

Shine street diffuser, tanabe touring medallion rear section, and a plethora of AEM digital gauges. Oh and SANCTIOND detailing stuff, from the sponsor. :)

I got a great deal on this AEM Methanol kit....

a little bit of methanol ;)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/47438613@N03/8181057413/http://www.flickr.com/photos/47438613@N03/8181057413/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/47438613@N03/, on Flickr

and a really great deal on a custom V-Mount. I've since sold the BOV and will be modifying the setup even more to my liking. At the price I paid, I won't feel as bad hacking this one up versus an HKS or Greddy setup.

Some parts started coming in faster than I could keep up with and I got really involved with a relationship so the car (and photo taking) took a back seat. I'll try to list what else I've bought since this last photo.

Dual Earl's 19 row oil coolers
Mocal oil thermostat
Synapse BOV
FFE fuel rails
550/2000cc Bosch EV14 injectors
Pineapple racing BT idler pulley.

I've also done some modifications to motor parts as well. I'll snap a few photos of those mods and will post them up in the next couple of days.

At this point, I had the motor installed back in the car and something just wasn't right to me. I had a hunch that the motor was bad when I bought it.

The previous owner told me a nice little story about the motor that wound up being false. So I pulled the motor back out and dropped it off with Fris down at Lucky-7 Racing.

My hunch was right...

The motor was never ported like the previous owner told me.
One chipped apex seal in the rear rotor
Main gear bearings were toast
Rotor bearings were toast
Eccentric shaft was toast
Rear rotor was toast
Oil pump was on the verge of dying, as well.

So Fris took care of me and I also had him give me a large street port(raceport) while it was all apart. He also tapped the rear iron coolant fitting so I can run a temp sensor. He also pulled and tapped the heater core fitting so I can plug it. And I decided to go with the RA master kit with super seals. (Yes I've read the threads pertaining to damage done by those kits)

I will be picking up the motor on Tuesday and I could be any more excited to know that I will have a GOOD motor. :)

FD_RICKY Mar 11, 2013 01:37 AM

i think i seen lucky 7 posting pics of your rebuild on instagram

JBF Mar 11, 2013 08:49 AM

Yep. That's my motor.

I was mad and relieved at the same time when I found out what all was wrong. Lol

my99spirit Mar 12, 2013 03:51 AM

where do they make glass fd sunroofs? I see them around but cannot get a clear site :(

JBF Mar 12, 2013 08:44 AM

94 touring came with glass sunroofs

JBF Mar 14, 2013 10:37 PM

It's back!!!

Fris is a good guy. I will definitely be going back to him if I ever destroy this motor.

mofo_aka Mar 17, 2013 12:50 AM

nice build, any idea what you want to do with the bumper? =D

JBF Mar 17, 2013 10:59 AM

Thanks!

I already sold the bumper to Mannykiller

mannykiller Mar 17, 2013 12:33 PM

^ hell yea he did...hahaha sorry about the fenders man... totally would've gone to you if it were in the cards..

JBF Mar 17, 2013 08:34 PM

It's all good!

JBF Mar 18, 2013 10:14 AM

I started installing everything back on the motor to throw it back in the car and.....

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...47762873_n.jpg

Luckily Jaime (battlecat) came through with the save by having an extra one.

Thanks again sir!

mannykiller Mar 18, 2013 12:50 PM

I have an extra one too man haha. I may even have 3...one billit one with temp sensor ports too but i'd have to look for it. Good thing it broke now though! how crappy would that be if you tq'd it down right before it was about to break..and then you went for a drive and a little engine vibration did it in? lol... OIL EVERYWHERE!! ......come help me with wiring..jkjk i'd never put anyone through this willingly

JBF Mar 18, 2013 01:00 PM

I don't know the first thing about wiring. I'm going to have to pay someone to come to my house and wire up all my gauges. hahaha

mannykiller Mar 18, 2013 01:01 PM

Did you already buy the gauges? We'll have to talk if not..

JBF Mar 18, 2013 01:15 PM

Yeah. I have all AEM digital gauges.

JBF Mar 18, 2013 08:17 PM

My Xcessive LIM showed up today and while I think it's awesome, there is about 3mm of space between the turbo and the front runner...

You guys let me know if this is too close.

JBF Mar 20, 2013 01:07 PM

So I've come to the conclusion that I can no longer run Elliott's amazing manifold. I tried thinking of ways to make it work, but it just can't happen.

It will be for sale soon.

Monkman33 Mar 20, 2013 04:29 PM

Wouldn't expansion of the exhaust manifold actually make the clearance bigger under load?

Also, the xcessive manifold is decently thick, I hace seen some grind away a bit to make room.

JBF Mar 20, 2013 04:39 PM

It's honestly too close for comfort. I had to wedge my band clamp in there to get my down pipe on.

Even with grinding, it'll get way too hot near that front runner.
