FD LS3/T56/Ford 8.8 Build
I'm a bit late on starting this thread.. but oh well..future updates will be posted 😎.
I picked up my 1994 Mazda rx7 as a bare shell in 2014. Ever since Ive been slowly building it from the ground up. My original plans we're to LS swap it and go widebody..but.. for now I'm sticking with the rotary and stock body. Goal is to stay around 400hp which I think is perfect for a street car. Was going to go widebody.. but decided to stay stock body. Here is some pics while I was deciding. (Went back to front oem fenders too) before I got the feed bumper I had a 99 oem shaved bumper as well.
Rear fenders were chargespeed 50mm fronts were feed https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...b396ad36d6.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...bbe2975145.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...5ad76d9e10.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...8e86e7ea21.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...edf27fcb97.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...3a11a2e31a.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...e422382de6.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...fddaf8369a.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...606d06571b.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...65857838f4.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...12cbedc63c.jpg |
The current state is in the process of tuning it. Huge thanks to @Skeese. He has been helping me tune this thing now that I switched to the adaptronic 440. He has got this thing to run wayyyy better then it ever has. Previously had the dinosaur .. yenno .. power fc  ..jk nothing wrong with a power fc! Still a great ECU for the money.
Of course repaint will be next ! :icon_tup: |
Great job bringing it back to life. Two things (personal opinion) I would change.
1. Chrome 99 spec signals 2. Dual N1 exhaust. |

I decided to go with brilliant black. Not a huge fan of Montego blue. I am using SPI universal clear and ppg deltron base coat. Hopefully I can have my car prepped and ready for paint soon here.

Wow, that's quite a project you took on. It's already looking 100% better than when you rescued it.
For consideration, airbags on a street car :icon_tup: |

I believe he's talking about your steering wheel missing an airbag.

Just got my IR Performance track motor mounts in. Definitely feels way better then my oem mounts. I did notice increase in vibration slightly but nothing that seems to bother me. Shifting feels real nice as well.

Nice build. Good decision on staying stock body. I prefer the look unless you are MonsterBox or David Hayes and really have to have enormous tires. And, unless mechanically attached, a lot of the kits eventually start coming off and depending on fitment, they can create areas that rust underneath.
Nice progress.

Where did you get the 99 spec bumper? Bumper was $560 shipped, and the new 99 lip was about $230 shipped. The bumper comes bare so you will need to strip your old bumper mounts and rivet them on. The lip is 2 piece so you have to order the left and right side. You have to be a racer if you want to order stock parts. These 99 parts are considered "competition" parts which they allow non racers to buy. Here is a screenshot of the part numbers to search by on there. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...7fb3e9eaf8.png |
99 Lip came in the mail this evening. 👍🏼

Just got my Nardi miata wheel on. I plan to rewrap it 99 oem style later down the road.
To get the wheel to work, you have to drill two holes/notches in the hub for the clockspring. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...3da77cc1ba.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...4f64608105.jpg The wiring part can be found here. I followed this great tutorial. https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/%5Brx7boutique-pictorial%5D-how-install-oem-nardi-steering-wheel-830139/ https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...b0426a852f.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...85d3c4f19e.jpg Installed. feels really nice ! Do miss how my old quick release setup brought my wheel a little closer to me. Not that I'm a shorty but it felt better a tad closer  |
Well decided to do a heart transplant.. stay tuned..
