This may have already been discussed, but how do you find these RHD RX-7's? Is it cheaper to get them from Canada than from Japan? Is the cost ridiculous to do this?

Sad to see the wreck pictures, but the replacement looks very nice. Good luck.

It's very easy and pretty cheap to buy a rhd FD from Canada. The real problem is getting it across the border. Just be sure to use a good importer and you should be fine, but there's always a risk of your shipment getting seized at the border and you're out the car and the cash. So just like anything worth doing... there's always a risk.

As for importing from Japan. It's way too expensive and its about a 80% chance your shit will get seized. My only advice would to ship to a port in a small town where they don't know what they're looking for. If you ship to Cali or Florida, your shit will be seized for sure.

I wonder.....If its road registered in the UK....Would it be easier than directly from Japan?

Not according to US transportation laws. If the car is rhd than it was made in Japan (as for the FD at least)

That being said US customs told me just two months ago that the following would not be up to spec with US laws:

Glass, headlights, taillights, seat belts, airbags, brakes, brake lines and tires. Now we all know that most of these parts are interchangeable between the USDM and the JDM rx7's but you know those damn bureaucrats.. they just go by whats written on paper.

Ceylon 06-01-10 09:54 AM

Fair enough. I was just thinking that as we're pretty anal with our tests/laws...People may have more luck.

I have a quote to use my FD in the US for 6 weeks. I was thinking of bringing it over last year....Odd that they overlooked those parts, as obviously the lights etc would make it dangerous on the wrong side of the road.

IbanezFreak87 06-01-10 09:57 AM

Well as long as its not registered in the USA than I could see how they would let you bring your car over just for 6 weeks. As for lights... the only difference is that the right side headlight in Jspec models is aligned slightly down so to not blind incoming traffic. And vice versa on USDM models.

Can the vehicle be legalized once across the Canadian border, though?

Will a jspec fd be legal? No. Not until it's 25 years of age. But it is possible to sneak it past your local DMV. All they care about Is that the vins match and that it has a legal title. Now if you live in a high profile state. Such as California, good luck, not gonna happen. But luckily for me, I live in butt fuck Ohio.

As for seven stock.. I've been thinking about it, but I'd only go if I find someone with a trailer since that would be a shit ton of miles to put on my "just rebuilt," "reliable" rx7. lol.

Deals Gap for sure though!

for sure... i gotta see this beaut in person when its all done...

rx7rcer09 06-01-10 03:04 PM

i love living in franklin county in ohio, no inspection there are a few RHD car running around R33, gt4 celica and a few FD's. and having dealer plates is easy to bring them from canada to the US.

Is it easier to import the donor car as a parts only car? I know it's easier to import cars into canada when they are for parts. It might be easier as you are mostly using that car for parts right?

That's exactly what I'm doing with the roller.

MOBEONER 06-02-10 09:06 PM

Does anyone know what kind of wheels are on that white FD in the pic above?

for a second there i though they where the same as that silver roller is wearing.

That white FD looks f*cking awesome.

so whats the update :D

IbanezFreak87 06-03-10 08:40 AM

Psh. No update yet. The damn shipper is pissing me off. I should have had the roller by Friday this week but turns out I won't have it till mid of next week.

I'm just waiting on the roller really. This weekend I'm gunna take out the engine from the yellow car and start taking it apart and seeing what small parts I can afford to do on the side.

I spent a whole bunch of money buying some Shine parts and that front lip. (Damn "overnight" shipping from Japan) lol

I also called Apexi and they don't offer the new commander and PowerFC set up yet. So I'll have to wait a couple months for that. (If you didn't know they're coming out with a new looking screen for the commander)

hmmm. Other than that nothing really going on.. oh except getting these painted titanium ;)
