Damn, you cant afford to buy a vise from sears for $35.00?

muibubbles Mar 30, 2011 04:11 PM

that vice was actually 40... older tools made in the usa are MUCH better quality then todays crap. a vice that size at sears would be more than 30 bucks and not nearly as good quality of and old vintage vice.

RENESISFD Mar 30, 2011 04:26 PM

+1 on the older vices made in the US. A vice that size is is about $200-300 new.

So true. I bought a new vice a couple years ago when I was building ar-15's, and the lips flared after a year from torquing down the barrels. I talked my dad into giving me his vice from the 1960's and it still doesn't have the slightest bit of flaring yet. It's a beast and I couldn't damage it if I tried.

good luck with your build! I would like to learn to weld one of these days. :icon_tup:

Cgotto6 Mar 30, 2011 07:41 PM

haha, i do agree that some old tools are nice...But that is a piece and if you seriously paid 40 bucks for that your gnarly. To each his own though. Good luck with the build.

Gringo Grande Mar 30, 2011 08:05 PM

That vise is awesome. Now powder coat it pink.

is a piece? not really dont be fooled by its rusty exterior. i didnt even lube it and it is SMOOTH. im guessing you're not much of a tool guy. these old vices are bad ass and a billion times more durable then todays junk!

wow, powdercoat it pink... idk i like the old rustic look on this one... maybe ill PC one of the smaller ones.. haha:icon_tup:

ill start the request list of pink powder coated items..

KKMpunkrock2011 Apr 1, 2011 05:10 PM

yeah! I've got one of those ancient vices too, it gets used and abused and its a friggin champ. I could probably dunk it in water and leave it outside overnight and it would still work fine.

muibubbles Apr 1, 2011 05:34 PM

definitely. i got mine from this old guy... it was outside the whole time. and when i used it worked perfect and turned so smoothly!

muibubbles Apr 6, 2011 03:40 PM

ohhh yeahhh. so i have a "toy design" course im taking in school and our project is a plush toy...

KKMpunkrock2011 Apr 6, 2011 04:46 PM

now you need a plush rotor and a miniature housing and then sell the idea to someone like rotary13b1 who can get them mass produced so I can buy one

Davin Apr 6, 2011 05:06 PM
