BoostCrzy NA 3-Rotor CYM

1993 CYM 3-Rotor built by Defined Autoworks. My GF was browsing Craigslist one night and ran across my dream car. a CYM FD with a naturally aspirated 20b in it. the car was a turn key race car and immediately jumped as hard as i could on it!. With the motor being a semi PP 9.7:1 C-code race build by Logan at Defined, I knew it was done right and HAD TO HAVE IT. sooooooo 3 days later i was driving across the country to Patalaska with a friend...and we picked it up. I have plans to go JGTC with this thing and piece by piece will enjoy the journey....its already caged and has AMAZING Alcon/Brembo brakes from a lemans car, so most of the setup has been perfected by the previous owner, but i intend to take it just a notch higher as I aim for the ultimate street/track car. heres a few pics.....WAY more to come.

Please tell me you have an air filter for in front of that open wheel well.

Save the 20B!

Edit- saw the video, has a nice filter

One thing I've been curious to ask since seeing the first video is about the drivetrain. Was there anything done to the trans to strengthen it? It's always kinda been said that the rx8 trans were quite fragile. I don't have any personal experience with them though, so it would be nice to hear if they are actually viable for a 20B.

My Cosmo is using an FC trans (and Cosmo 13B rear end), so cruising at 70 on the highway puts me well over 3k....so it could really use a 6th gear. If I ever really got to doing that, I think that would be a much easier swap vs doing an adapter + cd009/T56 .

Im confident this trans will hold up. it is stock yes.....and the torque is what kills these trannies...the 20b isn't producing much of it but it DOES rev to 10k+rpm!......sooooo the rx8 revs to 9k rpm....and the 13b is limited to 7500rpm from the factory..that being said, if you have ever tried shifting a stock FD trans over 9k rpm you would know its damn near IMPOSSIBLE. they routinely lock out until revs fall and it becomes frustrating to deal with. This RX8 trans shifts like BUTTER at 9500rpm and mated with the rx8 rear end, the 4.44 gearing gives a very driveable first gear. 6th gear is ultimately the same as 5th gear in the stock FD, so 6th wont really give you much on the highway....just a deeper first gear.....which is perfect for the high revving NA 20b. that said, Logan at Defined Autoworks isn't in business to do a swap like this if its a question of failure...I trust his judgement and will keep enjoying this thing till something prevents me from doing so!

in the meantime i cut a nice vent into the hood. 😏

Nothing like a perfect rectangle to compliment the curves of an FD. Haha
