took me long enough to finally put in my new defroster vents

BOY DO THEY MAKE A DIFFERENCE !!
if you have broken ones like i did... change em !

my old ones. all the tabs completely broke off and each section broken into 2~3 pieces

they are not expensive at all. i think i got them for a little less then $100 from RAY

new ones

installed
it took me a while to put them in since the dash is heavily warped
a little trick is to either heat the dash up a little bit with a blow drier
or just simply turn on the heater with the direction to the vents

how ever if that still dont budge. get a little plier and squeeze the metal tabs a bit so it slides in better.

dont be afraid to put a little force into it. they are new , wont break that easy

AANNNNNNND

you guessed it boys. our FD is an AutoBot

shifter rebuild

its a 24 year old car needless to say this part must need some love.

got the kit ready to go
along with new shifter boots ( 3 piece)

on teardown the old sifter boots and lower boot is all completely torn and separated. that explains the sauna effect when I drive. I can feel the heat forcing out from the shifter and the entire tunnel cover is hot to touch

old unit and lower washer and spring

surprisingly the bushings and the other plastic pieces were all intact. just very discolored

a comparison

the lower washer I got from mazda are now blue and only with 1 indentation and 3 small grip indentation for the washer spring vs the the oem original one theres 2 indentation and no grip for the springs

its really straight forward
just attach the springs to the washer and slid it in

lower cover on. it took a mild lubing to slide the boot all the way down from the top. and don't forget to install the upper washer+springs before you do this

everything else is also really straight forward after this point

heavily lube the shaft then slide the big shifter boot down from the top ( may require some force is not lubed well)
then down with the second boot and third while wrapping the lip on one another

Out of curiosity, why did you opt for the plastic OEM shifter bushing, I would have personally use a metal shifter bushing.

Good question man. I didn't know it existed lol.
And it was all included in the shifter rebuild kit provided by Ray
I simply asked him I need a new boots and stuff for my shifter rebuild. He said he's put together a complete rebuild kit for cheap and that's the kit I want. So yea.... I didn't question the man

The metal shifter bushing isn't an OE piece tho. I think failed to mention that.

Thumbs up

Not sure which offsets are best for your setup, the Desmond’s are classic but the BBS catch my eye. I’d like them on my car

Small update. Sold the BBS to a good friend. Its in the circle so if he ever decides to sell it. It comes back to me
and with that being said. Im gonna refinish the desmond ,either original withe or dark Titanuim silver. Black was my original idea but it might just might mask the beauty of the wheel.

also. Girlfriend got me a new 99spec oem rebar for xmas. To go with the 99 new front bumper cover she got me for my birthday.

update 1-4-2018

a lot has happened since my last big update. ill just focus on some key stuff
a few days before sevenstock 20. my turbos decided to blow the primary oil seal. spewing oil all over the bottom side of the car right now of the BOV. ( i routed the bov to dump under the car far away from the DP and engine bay. thank god)
took me night and day to find a decent turbo from a friend of mine and had about less then 2 days to get every swapped and done

to make matters worst. 1 of the DP bolt would not come out . no matter the method. to cut time short i decided to just disassemble my current 99spec and use the existing center cast piece. the wastegate was also already ported so thats a plus
also picked up a free spare stock twin from yoshi at NepTune speed for emergency spare parts.
the primary on the stock twins i got from my friend end up being on the verge of leaking oil as well. so the spare twin i got from neptune was there to save the day. so my current twins are a built together unit from 3 different sets of twins primary from free set, cast center from my current set, and secondary from the one i bought from my friend.
anyways... it was swapped over and everything is A-ok. no more leakage.

although i gotta say , if i would have periodically check my SMIC i probably would have known sooner and had been more prepared for it. the signs of bad turbos were ALL there

pools of oil

the intercooler being coated with oil and FILLED with oil is totally different. blowbys happen at the very minimum even if its a set of mint turbos
this one was puking long before it started leaking out of the BOV

fast forward 1 day after fixing the car. i arrived to seven stock.
it was a phenomenal day. those that missed it or simply cant make it due to distance i feel very sorry for you guys that

won this signed autograph during the infamous raffle.. heard it was 1 in 10 in the world

also met rob.. took a picture.. lol

the 2 side piece in the trunk were faded and over sprayed from original owner. decided to clean them up and do a semi restore

first i scuffed it with 400grid with
water and then applied SEM promoter, then sprayed with SEM interior black

not perfect but i am very satisfied. practice make perfect. maybe in the future ill give it another attempt

got one of these shiny bad boys. i gotta say, they do make driving the car long distance that much more comfortable. worth every damn penny

cleaned up interior shot

got this in the mail awhile back. 99 spec Air guide for my future 99spec conversion. the legit way

got them R-mgic oil cooler . i like how they came with instructions and shiny new hare-wares. kudos to R-magic

more cool gifts from Xmas

that book is an amazing read btw. highly recommended. suddenly i want to restore my FD back to ALLSTOCK form lol

drove the FD 110 miles out to visit my buddies shop in ontario. FSR motorsports. they specialize in monster supras.

thought you guys would appreciate this pic!
not rx7 related , but i drove the MR2 to visit my buddy with a bad *** NSX. hes also a FD owner.

Nice update.

I painted my trunk piece not too long ago.

And i can't see how you still mess around with those twins. They were always a PITA to work with.

How do you like that steering wheel, noticeably different ergonomics or mostly aesthetics?

Thanks man !!
having those pieces painted/restored truly makes a difference
Yea. Been thinking about it lately. 2 more twin turbo failure is all i have left in me. After that. Single !!

not just the looks. The wheel diameters is about 10~20mm smaller ? Im a tall guy. With stock wheel its just awkward and weird to sit comfortably, with the nardi wheel upgrade , now i have just enough room to wiggle and sit right. One of the best mods ive done thats for sure

called SEM trim black. Get the promotor as well. The paint sticks better.

Got new goods
Mazdaspeed rear strut bar
At first I was real spectacle about them. Didn't want to lose the privacy cover. Once I receive them i saw that there was factory holes pre drilled underneath And lined up perfectly to oem spec

now i just need to repolish it and bling it out
